She gathered together the odds and ends that she'd been collecting for weeks now. Small things she'd be able to use to decorate her drum, once she'd made it, were stashed in a small bag along with the bracelets she wore when she danced. Jumanah was so excited that she and her littermates were now around the right age to start their Moyo'mahadhi ceremonies, the drum quest. But besides her near constant smile and her twitchy tail, she was trying to stay calm. She was going to find her mother Isithunzi and she if she could start soon. If not today, maybe this week. Jumanah had always been an eager pupil when it came to music and the pride, and counted herself lucky that her mother was the Umshayi Wesigubhu. She'd had a good example of a drummer since birth! And she'd paid attention to Nsundu for the songs and chants and...! The smiling youngster pushed her paw through the loop of her small pouch and set out to locate her mother.

Isithunzi was not far off. She was at the drum circle, attending to the drums. Making sure that the skins were remaining taught on them, being sure that the claws and teeth holding them together were still wedged in tight. Keeping them maintained now would mean that she wouldn't have to check next time they had a big pounding ceremony. She loved those, when enough lions, cheetahs, whatever creatures were around would pound in sync, and you could feel your whole body shake with the beat. A true rhythm of the earth, almost like an earthquake with song.
And that was the precise reason that the lioness loved this pride, these lands. She pulled herself out of that reverie and got back to work, putting her ear near the large gourd and tapping on the drumhead, listening the pleasant tone produced. This one was fine, on to the next...

((sorry this took so long Light!))
Jumanah stopped short of the drum circle, taking a few minutes just to watch her mother attend the drums there. Checking the sounds with a few beats, tightening a skin here, adjusting a peg there... maintaining the drums that meant so much to the pride. And to think, Jumanah was to make her own now and learn those skills too!
"Mother?" She called after a while, the quiet youngster nervously stepping forward. She was sure she had learned the skills she'd been taught well enough but was just a touch nervous of asking if she could start her drum quest none the less.

Yup, this one's fine, too... Isi thought to herself before she heard a small voice chime in. She recognized it immediately and smiled. "Ah, Jumanah!" She turned away and towards her daughter with a smile, taking note which drum she'd left off on. "What's up?" she asked, padding forward and plopping down to the ground, pulling her daughter into a hug. Isi was in a good mood today, she'd get to spend the day with her. That would always brighten her day.

Jumanah purred and nuzzled into her mother's embrace. The show of affection helped her gather her wits and calm her nerves somewhat - even if she wasn't ready to go on her drum quest yet, this was her mum. How badly could it go? Isithunzi was hardly an ogre. Ju adored her and knew it'd be okay either way.
"I was wondering...could I get started on my Moyo'mahadhi ceremony soon please? I'm so excited that we'll all be doing our drum quests soon and I've been working really hard at my lessons!" She said, pulling away to smile at her mother hopefully.

Isithunzi loosened her hug when her daughter started to speak and looked down at her face. Typically 'I was wondering's meant she'd given it a lot of thought, but Isithunzi should have guessed it was the drum quest. A smile immediately spread across her muzzle. "Certainly we can! We can get started right away, too," she said with a kind smile and nod. "If you're ready, we've got to head East, there's a tree that drops gourds, that's what we start with," Isi explained and rose to her paws, ready to start.

"Really? Right now!" Jumanah laughed, gazing up with her mother in amazement. She hadn't expected that! She'd thought she'd have to work a bit more or wait a little while or something. Maybe just show her mother what she'd collected together.
"Thanks mum. To the East then!" She got to her paws and tapped her front paws one-two-one in excitement briefly, a step from an old dance that was her typical expression of extreme joy, before settling down. Ready to walk alongside Isithunzi.

Isithunzi smiled at her daughter's excitement. She was always glad to see such enthusiasm amongst the youth of the pride- she remembered a time when other lions just didn't understand what was so great about rhythm- the roguelands were a tough place to think so deeply on it, and most that she tried to teach simply rolled their eyes and walked away. She was more than grateful to any gods that had helped her get back to honestly teaching it.
"Yes, East!" She said as she started to pad in that direction. "Now- you know about the gourds, I'd assume. They're the main frame of a drum. Depending on which one you pick, your drum will sound different, so when we get there, you're gonna have to test them out to find the one you like best," the dark lioness explained. "The best way to do that is to tap on them with your claw, I'll show you when we get there," she said, deciding that the explanation would get across more clearly demonstrated than told.
