[PRP] Finding the Faith [Mahewa/Morifaer]

Oh what to do...It seemed that the joining of his sister, Bele, had reawakened all Mahewa's doubts. He'd begun to follow the pride's ways, he knew all the rules, the regulations, the beliefs. And he tried. Oh how he tried. He knew there was something inside him that made him able to put up with the others, something that made him belong...But was it really a demon?

He still didn't know just what a demon was. For him it was the urge to sing, to take the feelings of the world around him and twist them into song to hypnotize the masses. He suspected the skill would be wonderfully useful when he eventually became a Seeker (if he managed that feat.) He'd be able to whisk cubs away with the tune of his voice alone. But what of the rest? All they spoke of was blood and killing and power and strength. And Hewa? Sure he was strong. He was half Firekin! He'd eventually be larger than them all, most likely, except maybe Bele, but what good was that? He never felt as glad to do battle as some of the cubs even!

As he climbed up to sit on his favorite perch, a rock near the edge of the pride, he had to wonder: What did they have that he didn't? What was he missing here? Why wasn't he able to feel like the rest, to hunt like the rest, to simply BE like the rest?

Why couldn't he really believe?

If any creature whose paws had touched the face of the earth could be called a demon...it was Morifaer. Divine being he might be, but he was a perfect embodiment of his domain, strong, intelligent, with a lust for violence and treachery and sheer manipulation that could not be quenched. To wield power over others, and to play games with the mortals to further his own ends...well...such was his purpose.

He'd taken to wandering the pridelands, never once disguising himself with illusion. He didn't need it...this was HIS pride, after all, the place which he called home, that best suited his tendencies.

The god had just stuffed himself with no less than five rabbits, who had had the terrible fate of being chased down by illusionary 'demons', only to run right into the waiting maw of Morifaer. It was fun, to see the shock and horror on the faces of his prey as they realized that they'd been deceived. The only reason he really needed to eat, after all, was to savor that unreplicable taste of genuine fear.

Raising his great head, he spied a lion in the distance...perhaps one of theirs, from the colors of his coat. Seemed time for introductions. With an elegant leap, he was in the air, and moments later soared but a few feet from Hewa's head to land in front of him, back to the mortal. After all, he needed little precaution.

Hewa ducked his head as something passed low over him, brushing his ears and ruffling his mane with wind as it passed. What he immediately thought was a bird...could not have been farther from the truth. A huge lion, bigger than any he had ever seen, had just descended from the sky...on wings. And landed in front of him. Though he couldn't see the lion's face he could see pointed horns erupting from behind his ears, and jagged spiked trailing down his spine.

Was this what a lion who had found and embraced his demon looked like? Or was this something more?

The thought of Bele talking of having her goddesses blessing drifted through his mind, and he perceived that this was a god. And then it clicked. How many lessons had he sat in on, trying to learn so that he would not be teased or chastised for knowing less than the youngest cub? He knew who this was, and yet he had taken a moment to realize.

Too stunned to move from his rock, instead he bowed his head, averting his gaze if not his eyes from the great Morifaer. "Your...uhm...Godliness."
