Story

Although Tsukushi Makino is from a poor family, she attends an elite school for the super rich, where her life has become intertwined with the "F4," the ruling boys of the school, in a whirlwind of love and confusion!

Yoko Kamio was born on June 29, 1966 and made her manga debut in 1986 with Hatachino Mamade Matteiru (Waiting Until 20). Her works since include Suki Suki Daisuki (I Really, Really Like You), and Mary-san no Hitsuji (Mary's Lamb). Following its release, Hana Yori Dango (Boys Over Flowers) broke sales records by becoming the first shojo manga series to sell over 35 million copies in Japan, making the series the best-selling shojo manga in Japan. The series went on to win the 1996 Shogakukan Comic Award in the Girls Preferred Division.

Tsukushi Makino is accepted into the prestigious, Eitoku Academy. Life changes dramatically for Tsukushi when her friend falls on Tsukasa Domyoji. Tsukasa is the explosive leader of the "F4," a group of the most powerful, rich and handsome boys. Domyoji refuses to accept Makiko's apology and Tsukushi steps in to protect her friend. A red tag appears in the Tsukushi's locker the next morning which is a sign from the F4 that she is to be bullied by the school. Tskushi continues to stand up to her oppressors.

Tsukushi joins Kazuya and his family for Summer vacaction at their villa in Atami. Friction erupts between Kazuya and Domyoji after Tsukushi and Domyoji's kiss at the end of volume two. Even more juicy tension develops between Shizuka and Rui, but does anything become of it?!
Tsukushi overhears Rui telling Shizuka what he thinks of Tsukushi. Domyoji begins spreading rumors that Tsukushi is in love with him. He soon finds out that she is in love with Rui and he goes on a rampage. His rampage extends to an attack on Tsukushi herself.

A new boy enters the scene! He is a bit of a nut, but is determined to help Tsukushi.

Still desperate for money, Tsukushi goes to Tsukasa who comes up with a plan that everyone can benefit from. That is, if Tsukushi can win a beauty contest...!

Tsukasa's raucous behavior at Tsukushi's junior high school class reunion has her fed up with him once again. Tuskasa is crushed by this but is too stubborn to apologize. Later, Tuskushi is assaulted by two schoolgirls and then rescued by a "young nerdy boy" who turns out to be Junpei, a famous male model who has been dying to meet Tsukushi! Her dumb luck then gets her involved in a photo shoot with him, and she ends up on the cover of a famous magazine. This causes quite a scene at school, but not nearly as big a scene as when Tsukasa finds the two of them together!

Junpei has promised to protect Tsukushi and always be there for her. His promise comes just in time, since Tsukushi has been given another of the infamous "red slips," the mark of someone targeted for abuse. Meanwhile, Akira and Sojiro are desperately looking for Tsukasa, who has been gone for days. It turns out that Junpei harbors a terrible grudge against Tsukasa and is using Tsukushi as bait to get him! This has shockingly violent results. Later Tsukushi gets dressed up and attends Tsukasa's birthday party. Little does she realize the implications that attendance has!

Tsukasa's 18th birthday doesn't go smoothly at all! Tsukushi is introduced to Kaede, Tsukasa's mother, by way of falling over a table and causing a scene. Kaede tells her to get out, but Tsukasa defends her by declaring that she is precious to him. Thus begins a three-sided war between the three most headstrong people you've ever seen! Tsukushi and Tsukasa get away for a while and spend some time on Tsukasa's boat, but they can't hide from Kaede forever...

Meanwhile, Tsukasa's domineering mother, Kaede, is brewing up plans to keep them apart forever, and she might have found just the thing to do it when she introduces him to his new fiancée!

I'm not sure if we are able to post here, but I just want to say that this series is wonderful! its full of twists and turns and most of all comedy. This is definitely one of my top mangas.

If you are looking to buy the series, then I suggest amazon.com. They have free shipping when you spend $25 or more, which is easy to do when buying manga.
