I might get a Mosin Nagant for christmas because my guardians think its a reasonable price.

The only thing I am worried about is ammo D:
7.62x54? Is this something I can buy commonly? Any other info on it, where it can be bought ,how much etc?

I would bet it wouldn't be too hard to find just because of the sheer number of Nagants floating around demand for ammo has to be pretty significant.

I just checked one ammo site and they were completely out of stock for like three different brands. Looking from the price it seems to be $1-$2 a round.

I just checked another site, and 3 out of the 5 listings were sold out. And the prices were about the same as the last site, costs $1-$2 a round.

Common? Depends on what you mean by common. I don't think you can get it at Wal Mart, but surplus can be got in cases for, well not cheap, but cheap for what you're getting in return.

I became sold on 7.62x54R when I read it has the same power at a thousand yards as a .44 Magnum has at the muzzle.

Sign me up, right?

Nagants aren't that bad as long as you have a lump of meat between your collar bone and the gun. Of course, when one of my friends started shooting his M38 he put the stock on his collar bone, you can figure out what happened there...

Yeah, let's just say that he doesn't like to shoot big-bore rifles very much.

Reaper: Also, Surplus is the best way to go as far as plinking ammo is concerend. If you want something of higher quality but still cheap try Brown or Silver Bear ammo. Check out AIMsurplus.com or Ammunitiontogo.com

... I always rest it there.
So I'm doing it wrong?

My Nagant loves me back... in a painful almost BDSM kind of way.

Does it rest ON the bone or on the meat just below it? He had an M38 resting ON the bone, not the meat.

I usually end up having a sore arm the next day and, depending on the amount of use, the occasional bruise.
