So, next year (if I still can) I plan on buying an AR-15...But, see, I want a carrying handle on it with the iron sights, but I also want a scope. I've talked to people and they say you can have both and use them both, but, I don't see how they do it.

I know there's the hole in the carrying handle to put a screw through or something to put a rail on, but, I don't understand how they can use the iron sight with that screw through the middle.

Any pictures of it would be loved and appreciated!

Maybe the thing on the left side of the gun could be switched with some kind of scope? I don't know. That and it's an "M16" (see who gets the quotation meaning first). It wouldn't be the first time a scope was added off to the side.

If you dismount the rail, it'll still be pretty accurate when you re-mount it. Also, some are made with the screw very low-slung, at the bottom of a U-shaped rail, so you can see straight through the rails that way. The other choices, of course, is an A4 upper and a removable carry handle/sight combo.

That's probably your best choice though. I'll warn you in advance, a scope mounted on a carry handle is uncomfortably high. I've got my EOTech up there, and I had to install a cheek riser on it to make it fit, and a decent cheek riser is another $60.

I could have sworn that the A4 upper had a detachable carrying handle that mounted on a rail...

picture is airsoft.

I was just using the example of a scope being mounted off to the side a bit.

Dangit...I'm still not sure what I want to do...
I mean, I really do want iron sights for close range shots, I'm a lot better when them at close range, but for longer distances, I kinda want a scope...
Any ideas?

I just saw an ad with a picture of an EOTech or something like it on top of a small scope. Does that help any?

I've seen it before, its an ACOG/EOTech combo...But its REALLY expensive.
As much as I would love to have it, the ACOG on the bottom is around one grand alone, then the EOTech is about three or four hundred.

You might be able to find a side-flip scope mount. Other than that, well... those iron sights are perfectly good out to 600+ yards.

My sights are rated at a distance of 100 to 2000 meters.

Like they should be.

Just a thought, but what about mounting a flip up front and rear sights on an A4 upper, then mount an under/over scope mount?

From what I can think of, you can't have a carry handle, a scope, and BUIS, and still be able to use them both easily. Pick any two.

Now, if the carrying handle mounts on a rail, couldn't you mount that on the bottom of the handguard?

I just wonder if you could hold it properly then...

Now THAT'S an interesting idea. The center of gravity of an AR is at the front end of the receivers, so it wouldn't be off-balance, it'd just be topheavy...

Urgh, it'd be horribly topheavy. xp
