This has been bothering me for a while now.

Our grandparents had several major events in their lives. They saw the great depression, world war II, Korea, and everything to this day.

Our parents, most of them are now in their thirties, forties and fifties. They saw the end of Vietnam, the fall of Communism, the reunification of Germany, and the surge of HIV/AIDs.

Most of us are nearing our twenties, and we've already seen the first overt act of war, the first attack on US soil in 6o years. September 11th 2001. We've seen the destruction of two regimes, and the reconstruction of two countries.

My question is, if each generation has one defining moment, for our Grandparents it was WWII, for our parents it was likely the fall of Communism, and then, what will ours be? will it be a war, or will it be something else?

What are your ideas?

... I know the defining moment for some of those tin heads out there.
Obama being elected and winning.
Voting for 'fame', yeah that's a good way to vote I hope it bites them all in the ******** a**.

Anyway, since it being the late 80's for me... I was born in 1987.

There isn't too much that I'm proud of that happened in that time.
Reunification of Germany?

Weren't there some conflicts at that time as well?

Eh, Obama doesn't really count. Not yet.

And there were, but the reunification of an entire country is a big deal.

I think Global Warming will be our generation's AIDS. It's big, and it's there, but it's not THE event.

Well; I'd have to go with the War on Terrorism; or today's recession.

It might get worse... -.-

We haven't impacted the economy, it's our (Grand)parents that messed that one up.

During our era. Our grandparents were mostly teenagers (on average, or so I assume) when the Depression hit. It wasn't their fault it happened, it was THEIR [grand]parents', but it will be forever their event.
