What would you guys say about the crowbar as a zombie weapon? How would you rate it among the aluminum bat, hammer, or steel/lead pipe, or machete?

I say this because the zombie forum has been just a little bit dead (pun?) lately.

Also I saw one at Wal Mart and wanted it.

It would be good as long as it is big enough to cause damage when swung / stabbed. Not only that, but you can use it for other things other than combat.

I'd use it.

That being said; I'd worry about cutting myself on it. Which isn't all that wonderful considering that the crowbar itself might be covered in the virus/parasite/bacterium, and cause me to get infected.

I'd also be against using it as a tool which might be my shelter, and/or food for that reason.

IMHO; blunt trauma > stabbing/slash wounds in this situation.

I'd use it.

It's good for opening zombie heads as well as boarded doors and crates!

Alternative response;

It's good for scooping out zombie brains and also serves as a crowbar!

The modern crowbar that I'd grab. More edges, got the pike end, and you got multiple attack styles.

I'd be worried about stabbing myself with the pike on accident. Also, you can't hook that on your belt. I'd use a crowbar, but seeing as how I don't have one, my current melee weapon of choice would be my 24" straight-edge screwdriver. Possibly my e-tool, but I'd have to unfold that and everything. ******** my machete though, it's dull as s**t.

If I had to go melee against the undead, I'd rather keep a trench gun on hand; shotgun with a bayonet blade. A good stab in the midsection like a spear to put them at bay, followed by a shotgun blast through them (possibly into the others, pending on its own physical condition). Short of that, I'd go for a home-made weapon: a compact axe. Take a deployable police baton (24" I'm going for) and weld on a sharp axe head or other bladed accoutrement to the end shaft. When you need it, just flick it out like the regular baton and you got your axe at the ready. The advantage of it over a regular axe would be the size and how easy it would be to carry. Heck, if you have the time to while you build the axe head, try and make a small spear-tip for it or even make it into a mace or something. Just make sure it can still be compacted afterwards.

Heavier than aluminium bat
Longer/sharper than a hammer
Sharper than lead/steel pipe
Heavier than machete

I would use it any day.

As a weapon and a tool it would come very handy in for breaking into buildings and cracking open skulls. I would put it above the machete as a weapon because blades can and do get stuck in bones.

f**k my machete though, it's dull as s**t.

I usually just take my machetes and axes to a grinding wheel to sharpen them.

My dad won't let me, he says it HAS TO BE DONE on a wetstone. I wasn't even grinding it, I was using a file.

Nope, but he refuses to have it done nonetheless. It's a piece of crap, too. The handle is wood, and it's held on with electrical tape... I should just buy a cheap-s**t one from Home Depot and replace it.

We have a grinding wheel out front that's probably from the 1850s and I use the damn thing for sharpening... everything.
