Some nights, Sira found himself asking questions of the small, pale demon-lioness that had become one of their hunters. Others, he found himself trying to perfect traits he already had that would do him good to become one of Sparda's knights. But tonight...tonight was different. Tonight, Sira just sat and seemed to be staring at cone of the volcano that dominated the eastern horizon.

He was staring...but not really AT the cone. No...Sira knew that being a demon-lion wasn't just about following the rules and rituals. You had to find your demon too. And though he knew he was young to truly find it...he wanted to listen for whispers...inklings of what to shape himself into, for the good of the pride and the demon within him.

Of course...his little meditation left him oblivious to the world around him.

Nyota couldn't remember the last time he'd simply enjoyed the night. He'd been too busy with his plans for the future to take time out to simply enjoy the silence of the night and the way it stirred the demon within him. The voice that whispered to him and told him of what he could be one day, what he would be one day. The very thought caused a smirk to form on hidden lips. For the night, he'd decided to wear the skull he'd gotten so long ago as a cub; a gift from his mother.

It was beginning to fit him, now that he was larger. It was still a bit long, and hung off the tip of his nose, but he thought he looked rather intimidating.

And then was when he spotted the gray back of his half-brother. The smirk widened, and the juvenile pressed his belly to the grass. He would surprise his dear half-brother. It was that thought that flitted through his head as he let out a rather convincing cub roar and raced into Sira's line of vision.

Sira didn't hear his half brother coming...and then suddenly there was ivory and gold in his field of vision. He yowled in surprise and stumbled a couple steps backwards before gaining his bearing once more. He narrowed red eyes at the older, bigger cub, the fur on his neck and back raised and a growl coming from his throat.

"Very funny, Nyota." Despite his obvious agitation, his voice stayed rather monotonous...a strange trait about the shadow-colored cub. "What do you want that you had to interrupt me."

Nyota smirked triumphantly at his successful scare, and he sat down before Sira, his tail curling around his haunches.

"I wanted to see if I could surprise you," he said lightly, absently lifted a paw to inspect his claws.

The almost-monotone cub sighed, his angry annoyance gone and replaced with just straight annoyance. "You succeeded, congrats." He was a demon...he could accept his failings, because he worked to remove them in time. He resisted resting his face in one of his paws.

"So what brings you here, half-brother?" Might as well find out. The worst he could say was that he'd deliberately tracked Sira down.

"I was... Enjoying the call of the night. My demon has been stirring a lot lately, and I decided to calm it," Nyota said absently, eying his claws with an air of disinterest. After a long moment, he glanced back at Sira, a wicked grin hidden beneath the skull. "What were you doing?"

"Communing." The simple start to his answer. "I am still young...but I want to know what directions to take. How to best coax my demon into full strength." He chuckled. "Better prepared, than caught off guard, yes?"

"I suppose that is true..." Nyota said, looking into his half-brother's eyes for a long moment. Perhaps he could use Sira to further himself, but the cub was smart. He would have to be careful... A lazy smirk found its way onto the juvenile's face as he made his decision. "You have the eyes of a true demon."

Sira raised a brow. "Of course I do." Now...Sira was a very logical boy. And his next statement proved that fact. "Both Mother and Father are true demons, so I am one. And therefore, my eyes are those of a true demon." Poor boy, despite his intelligence, had no idea what he was walking into.

"Don't be such a fool. Father may be Aran'shale, but he is not a true demon," Nyota scoffed, his eyes narrowing slightly. But then he sighed. Not all of his siblings had the advantage of being raised by his mother. He shouldn't be so harsh with the cub. "The mark of a true demon is the color of their eyes. Demons with gold eyes have the most power, but blood colored eyes also mark demons of great power. Your eyes a blood colored. So you have the eyes of a true demon."

"Really now?" What was his brother thinking? Eyes didn't make a demon. Spirit and strength did. Strength of mind, strength of body. Blood helped too. His happened to be pure...like his half-brother's.

"What reason would I have to lie to you? Think about it. It seems that the most strong-willed of the pride have gold or red eyes. Have you seen the eyes of the new Ele'aine? And the eyes of both of our mothers. Even Iartuupe's eyes are the eyes of a true demon," Nyota purred darkly, his tail curling around his legs. His tone was dark, almost seductive. It was obvious his conviction on this couldn't be swayed.

Sira was keeping his temper in check. Thankfully, it wasn't hard since he was a naturally even-tempered cub. "I could think of many reasons, Nyota...but I shall set them aside for now." Let Nyota believe he was really listening...he would go away eventually, or one of their mothers would call them away for lessons or training. "Blood and gold are demonic yes." Couldn't really argue that point. Those colors tended to intimidate non-demons.

"You are wise not to trust every word I speak, dear brother," Nyota said, chuckling absently and kneading the ground. Really, he hadn't met very many demons who were wise enough to choose whether or not his words were trustworthy. In reality, there were only two lions he was completely truthful with. His mother, and Moricorm. "Then you see my point."

"Perhaps I do see your point." He moved his neck so part of his spine popped back into place...every now and again, everyone spine seemed to give them troubles. "Perhaps eyes truly make a demon...would a white lioness with red eyes be a demon?"
