Nerit could not sleep, something not too uncommon to the chocolate lioness. Giving Unyezi hope was foolish, and she felt miserable she did not feel she had the heart to allow him to give up his role as king and be forgiven by her. Forgiveness on her part seemed impossible; she knew she was confusing she was glad Unyezi was king and did not let the pride fall apart, but she hated him for making the choice to stay.
She hated the war that had taken his parents and so many others, she hated absolutely everything about the situation. But at the same time she loved Unyezi, she wasn't sure what drew her attention to him, if they were together he would be a slave, she did not seek power. They were just young kids in love, drawn together by fate, or perhaps the moon. She knew virtually nothing about him, he was king..but he was also Unyezi.
Sighing loudly she nuzzled into Indu, Indu was an easy sleeper, but Nerit wished to talk and hoped that the nuzzle would wake her.

Indu opened her ruby eyes and looked at Nerit with love. The adolescent was spoiled rotten from day one, she was a complete brat but her love for her mother was strong and she was at least respectful of their bond.
Giving a great yawn, "What's up, Mom?" she murmured and scooted on her belly close to her mother's warmth. She was not used to Nerit waking her. Sometimes in the middle of the night the pastel lioness would wake and her mother would be gone or awake and restless. Indu never understood these feelings.

"Care to take a short walk with me?" Nerit leaned into Indu's approach and then stood slowly. Nerit wanted to discuss the future, she was pretty sure what her choice would be but she wanted he daughter's opinion on the matter after all it was not just Nerit's life that would change, so would Indu's.
She was nervous and scared, what if Unyezi left his position but hated what she has become? She was not interesting; she did her work quickly, eats, and sleeps, there was nothing really more that she did. She was interested in the sky and the world, she listened and learned from anyone that gave her the time of day..perhaps he would think her smart or witty. She doubted it, doubted a lot about herself but she would only try.
"I'd like to talk to you about the future.."

She stood up quietly, Nerit had never taken the time to wake her up in the middle of the night for anything and Indu was concerned that something was wrong. Until her mother spoke the words "future" Indu was frightened. This was just about her either being selected or finding apprenticeship or being a hunter the rest of her life, boo couldn't this have waited?
"Can't it wait, I'm tired?" Indu looked disgruntled and she glared at the chocolate lioness. "I'll pick a future later."

"In case you were interested, the part of the future I am talking about has more to do with me than you. The moon doesn't shine just for you, little one," Nerit was hurt, but she knew she'd raised her daughter to be this snotty.
She started walking and wondering where to start, "I've always told you when I was younger I fell in love with a very wonderful lion..and that it did not work out because of the war, this was a lie." She hoped it was enough of a catch to keep Indu interested.

Indu was about to lay back down but her mother's words were chastising enough to make her stay standing. What did she know about the world anyway? The moon really -did not- shine for her! She opened to tell her off but then Nerit started to walk and all Indu could do was follow.
"What do you mean you lied? Did you or did you not love a lion before the war?" It was seemed as simple as that, Indu was at the point she did not think her mother could love anyone, Indu did not have a father, that was partial proof, you'd think if you were having cubs with someone you'd love them and stick around.

A mischievous look entered Nerit's eyes, she had caught her daughter's attention after all. The chocolate lioness continued to walk a few paces before stopping again. "I loved him and still do, it was before the war. This lion he was and is a great lion..." she was trying to make things easy but she was tieing herself into verbal knots.
"The reason I said I lied was because this male could not stay with me because of my rank, as a slave. You see this lion needed to be high ranking and to love someone high ranking because he was the heir to our pride, currently our king." She waited for Indu's reaction, would the little lioness believe her?

Indu was having trouble following her silly mother, she was talking in circles what exactly was she trying to get out. Indu stopped inches from her mother and listened. Her brow wrinkled, as much as a lion brow could and she looked shocked and confused.
"You were in love with King Unyezi? And he loved you?" Indu shook her head, "I don't see what this has to do with the future, you're talking the past the king has a mate, and children my age. Seems like you are a little late for a future." Indu's words were not meant to be hurtful, but she knew that they would sting. She would always love her mother, but she also sometimes thought of her as a slave. She was pompous, but Nerit had trained her unintentionally to be very proud of her rank in the world, perhaps too proud.

Nerit held her tongue and held back tears at her daughter's words, was it even worth it to explain everything to Indu? The young lioness was hurtful, hateful, and prideful. Nerit needed her to understand, painfully needed everything to work out perfectly. Where had this lioness come from? Her sweet little Indu had grown into a brat.
"Yes he loved ME, and he still does, I wanted you to know this that he approached me and wants to be in my life, wants to give his thrown for your lowly little slave mother," Nerit hissed at her, "I wanted you to be apart and be happy that I have love. It's hard enough trying to forgive him for leaving and choosing the thrown for me, but your reaction." Nerit went silent..what to do what to do.
"I love you daughter, but I made so many mistakes with you," she shook her head, "I wanted so much for you that I gave you the largest head ever, I'm surprised you don't fall over from it." she chuckled, but it did not sound nice or happy.
"My future, our future is supposed to be happy, I have to believe that. The Great lion smiled upon you and brought you to this pride, the first baby born, a good sign after losing our lands and winning a war. I know there is good in you, and I want your blessing with this..I need this." She insisted.
The brown lioness seemed almost in a panic, she wanted to cut Indu down to size, but wanted everything to turn out happy-go-lucky. She made her decision in that moment she was going to show up and give Unyezi the sign tat she would take him back. It wasn't worth it to keep torturing herself with loneliness, and with Indu's current behavior what else did the lioness have?

Heat started to rise to the young lioness' face and she burned with anger, her mother had never spoken to her this way. She was never told 'no' unless it was dangerous and because of that she was allowed to do as she wished. There was a breaking point inside the little angry lioness, something that seemed to be deep seated in her soul that had just come loose.
"The king loves you!" she barked a laugh, "my own father did not love you, look you've an almost full grown daughter and where has he been? Who could love a slave!" She was speaking harshly and loudly.
"A king would be a fool to step down from his right to the thrown, if he does as you say you are both mad." She growled and stood her ground. "Why would I give my blessing on this? For you to love a male that isn't my father?" Indu huffed and glared at her mother, "You...you..I am not a mistake." she shook with rage. She was like a lioness not allowed out of the den to see a lion, blind rage at her parent for no real reason other than hurt feelings and childish misunderstanding.

"Your father was very young and I would not have burdened him with the task of being a slave and raising a daughter, he was a very lovely young man and I was happy," Nerit suddenly realized that Indu was probably mad because she did not have a father like much of the other cubs. Indu had mentioned her angst and difference in passing, the other cubs had moms and dads and she only had a mother.
"You can't go around feeling so angry and hurt all of the time," Nerit was watching her paws, "I did that for far too long, and then eventually buried those feelings and that's no life. You can be as arrogant as you want, but you need to understand I love you very much and I'm not sure where all this anger is coming from."
"Please..can't we go back to just being happy?" Nerit dropped the subject of Unyezi and focused on Indu, was something happening in her life that shouldn't be? What was going on? "Are you alright?"

Indu refused to hear her mother's responses, her ridiculous answers. She was not going to receive her precious daughter's blessing for a silly fantasy that her obviously delusional mother had. he pastel lioness started to walk away haughtily not looking her mother in the eyes.
"I'm not saying this is okay, and I'm not alright," she hissed loud enough for her mother to hear and continued walk, "Don't..just don't follow me." She sped up almost to a run as she walked, that would show her, wouldn't it?

Nerit allowed it, she allowed her only family left in the world to just walk away. If Indu fled she would be chastised not by her mother, but by the royalty and if that was the life Indu chose o be it. She inhaled the night air and closed her eyes. She was raising a fool and she was so heart broken over the idea.
"Indu...Indu..I love my little girl," she spoke quietly and tears streamed down her face matting her fur together, "I love my little girl." She sat very still and held back her emotions trying not to full on sob.
