Chunuka was lying on the bank of the marshes, humming quietly to himself. He couldn't remember a day when he had felt so content...so at peace...so calm and happy. This place was bringing out the best in him.
Kimya was bringing out the best in him.
At this very moment, the young adult was watching a large frog. It was sitting half-submerged in the muddy water, its slimy back shiny under the sun. He'd never taken the time to observe them before, but he had to say, frogs weren't as ugly as he'd once thought. No, in fact, if you looked past the slimyness of their bodies to those eyes, they could be considered beautful. Eyes of shining, polished amber.
It croaked and hopped and was swimming away. He tracked its shadowy form across the water, waiting for it to surface again.

Gao watched what he assumed was one of the pride's males lying on the bank of the marshes. The male seemed to be humming and Gao wondered what it was he was doing. He watched him for a moment longer, before he decided to introduce himself to the male.
He approached him slowly making no attempt to be quiet about it.
"Excuse me, good afternoon," he called.

He started at the sound of a small voice behind him and turned to see a small cub. He was a pretty thing with odd, unique markings. He had the type of pelt that you couldn't forget. That made him stand out. Compared to him, Chunuka felt suddenly plain.
He smiled warmly. "Hello there, little one." He laughed. "Come to watch the frogs, too? Or just passing by? There's one of them at the moment but he's hiding. Maybe he saw you coming. I'm sure he'll come up eventually, though."
"I'm Chunuka, for now, at least. What's your name?"

Gao gave the male a curious look wondering what exactly a frog was. He did not often wander very far from his den. It was only today he felt bold enough to explore.
"No, I do not know what a fr-oog is. I was just wondering what you were doing?"
Gao came over and sat next to the male, looking for this so called frog.
"My name is Gao. It's very nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you, too, Gao." He shifted over a little to make room for the cub and pointed a paw across the swampy water. "If you stay here, real still, he might come up and you'll see him. He was here just a minute ago but I think he spotted me and got startled."
He hunkered back down and continued, in a lower voice. "Frogs are really slimy, shiny things that jump around a lot. I always thought they were ugly things but actually, they're not all that bad. They have pretty eyes, at least. There weren't many where I came from but they seem to thrive here."
He chuckled as the frog resurfaced, only its head and eyes visible. "There, do you see him?"

Gao moved forward toward the water and looked over to where Chunuka was pointing. He did not see anything at first, but stared intently at the spot as if willing the frog to resurface. He listened to Chunuka explain what a frog was and nodded his understanding.
Gao saw the frog come up to the surface and was excited. "I see it," he said leaning closer.
Unfortunately he slipped on the moist ground and fell head first into the water with a slash. When he resurfaced he he sat in the shallow waters his head the only part of him visible and mud covering he mane tuff.
"I didnt mean to do that."

He smiled as the cub spotted the frog, seeing that curiosity on his little face as he leaned forwards. He sighed, remembering a time when he had been a cub, new to the world and amazed at anything and everything. Where had all that gone? The innocence and desperation to learn new things?
He gave a start, snapping from his thoughts, as the little one slipped and punged into the water. A flash of fear had him on his feet, preparing to splash in after him and lift him to safety. Then, suddenly, his little face had returned above surface and he felt a flash of relief ease the tension in his muscles.
"Are you okay, Gao? Gosh, you did give me a fright falling in like that! Do you need help getting out?" He chuckled quietly. "You trying to copy the frog, there, Gao?"

Gao had not meant to fall in, but he had and now he was soaked and cold. He could hear Chunuka asking him questions and he wanted to answer but when the older male chuckled and made a joke about him he felt really embarrassed. He really hadnt meant to fall in.
Gao's face frowned up and he big fat tears leaked from the little one eyes. He sniffled feeling wet, cold and miserable, wanting to be anywhere but where he currently was.
"Not nice," he mumbles through the tears and sniffles before he gave into his tears and mewed loudly crying in earnest.
((sorry it took so long, lost my muse a little))
