Story

Takashi Natsume can see the spirits and demons that hide from the rest of humanity. He has always been set apart from other people because of his gift, drifting from relative to relative, never fitting in. Now he is a troubled high school student who has come to live in the small town where his grandmother grew up. And there he discovers that he has inherited more than just the Sight from the mysterious Reiko.

Volume 1
Takashi Natsume can see the spirits and demons that hide from the rest of humanity. He has always been set apart from other people because of his gift, drifting from relative to relative, never fitting in. Now he is a troubled high school student who has come to live in the small town where his grandmother grew up. And there he discovers that he has inherited more than just the Sight from the mysterious Reiko.


Volume 2
Much to his surprise, Takashi is settling into his new home. He's even making friends at school. So when some of the other kids invite him to a test of courage at the old abandoned high school, he joins in despite his reservations. But the rumors about the old school being haunted are absolutely true, and the spirit that lives there has a special hatred for humans!


Volume 3
Takashi is busy returning the names his grandmother trapped in her book and helping the local yokai with their problems. But he has to put his good deeds on hold when a black Nyanko Sensei snatches the Book of Friends! Takashi and the real Nyanko trail the bad cat to a secret yokai meeting deep in the forest. Will they be in time to stop the impostor's wicked plans?!


Volume 4
Takashi's quiet afternoon in the forest is disrupted when an angry spirit tries to possess him. He manages to dodge the spiritual attack, but he can't as easily avoid the yokai's pleas for help. Now he's tracking down an escaped evil sprit that threatens the life of the forest. But he's still learning that yokai never tell the whole truth, and the secrets spirits keep spell trouble for him!


Volume 5
Takashi thinks he’s found a balance between yokai and friends when he goes with a group of classmates to a country inn for a marathon cram session before school starts again. But even the prosaic threat of homework can’t keep the "other world" at bay, especially when the inn keeper has been dabbling in mermaid blood!


Volume 6
Takashi rescues a young boy named Kai from an abandoned house, where he had been locked in a box. But this isn't just a case of bullying gone too far. Kai has been complaining about being chased by ghosts. Does he see yokai too, or is there something darker going on?


Volume 7
Someone is attacking yokai and stealing their blood, and Takashi is dismayed to discover that the assailant is human! The more he investigates the attacks, the more danger he finds himself in as he digs deeper into the occult world of the exorcists. Someone is planning something horrible, and even the help of Natori—actor and exorcist extraordinaire—might not be enough to save the yokai…or Takashi!


Volume 8
Nyanko Sensei is recovering after being wounded in the last yokai incident, so Takashi is on his own when he accidentally releases a yokai right before the school festival. With new friends and his ever-strengthening relationship with the Fujiwaras, Takashi has more reasons than ever to keep the supernatural at bay. But does he stand a chance without Nyanko Sensei's power to back him up?


Volume 9
Natsume learns that no good deed goes unpunished when an irate yokai accuses him of stealing her ring when she came to the Fujiwara house to get her name returned. Natsume thinks he knows where the ring has disappeared to, but can he find it in time, or will the place he’s come to think of as home be destroyed by the vengeful yokai?!


Volume 10
One of Natsume’s elementary school classmates is in town, but the unexpected reunion is for a dark purpose. Shibata knows Natsume’s secret, and threatens to expose it if Natsume doesn’t do what he says!


Volume 11
Natsume and Tanuma are spending a rainy day helping Taki clean up a storehouse full of her grandfather’s stuff. But old clothes and books aren’t the only things sealed away. The friends accidentally release a very angry yokai. Is teamwork enough to stop the yokai from going on a rampage?!


Volume 12
Natsume meets a kindhearted yokai who has found a ruined letter he desperately needs to read. There is another yokai who has power over paper who might be able to help him. But this yokai’s name is sealed in the Book of Friends… Will it be willing to help the grandson of the woman who bound it?!

Intrigues abound in the world of professional exorcism, and Natsume wants nothing to do with it. But he has no choice when Matoba, head of a prominent exorcist clan, blackmails him into coming to an exorcist meeting.
