I wonder why they even bother putting up the "bid" section. The opening/minimum bid is the exact same as the buy price. If you're going to bid more than what the buy now price is then you are an idiot.
It's a piece of the history of the US arsenal. Imagine if the M1 Garand had not been OK'ed and this had become the standard rifle of the Army in the war?
I've seen smaller photos of this prototype rifle in my Small Arms of the World reference.
The biggest black eye against this one was the choice of the ammo. The US military had tons of .30-06 ammo and needed a rifle that would spend down the surplus. Thankfully, the M1 had just enough going for it to beat most others outright.

If that were the case we'd be seeing a 30-grand M1 Garand up there instead.
