It was just after the sun set, and the sky still help onto some of the sun's rays like a selfish child. Zangu's coat seemed the most drab at this time, as there wasn't enough light for the white to reflect, and the black seemed to absorb the growing darkness around him. The only thing that was apparent were the red eyes peerking out from beneath the bangs of his black mane.
It could almost be a sinister sight....if you didn't know how Zangu was.
Bumbling along, a skip in his step and a hum in his heart, he was on the prowl. Being a hunter, he normally was, but today he was looking for his favourite thing. A flower.
So soft it was almost pathetic, Zangu always loved to try and see all the flowers he could. He had heard that some flowers opened up only to the moon's light. Tonight was beautiful, a clear night, the crisp air making everything seem that much more clear and beautiful. He was greatful for the chance, so long as nothing distracted him on his hunt. He did get distracted pretty easily, from almost anything that would catch his attention.

Awkward and tiring, that was how most days went for Alcmene lately. Night was welcome, it was when she had fewer things to worry about and when she had the easiest time hiding away, thanks to her dark fur. She was completely healed from her misadventure with the herb but she was still sore about her father's decision to step down. She had no blame for her mother, if it weren't for her she would have felt entirely abandoned. She was getting used to being queen but slowly, just as the whole pride adjusted. Some made a bigger deal of it than others, and it was those lions that made it slower for her as well. Worst was that Fafnir never came around now, she missed him.
She didn't know where she was going to go, but she was out for a walk in the dim light of the evening. The moon was high and just bright enough that one could walk without feeling suspicious of all things in the dark. The Great Lion was watching. She had no idea a hunter was around, she was not paying much attention to her surroundings.

When the moon's light finally began to start shining, Zangu's coat started to absorb the soft glow. He ignored this, though. His eyes searched frantically looking for a hint of something. There had to be! There couldn't be a more beautiful night than tonight. These rumored flowers had to be around here. Especially in a land where the moon ruled all. They would be like the offerings to what they all admired.
He didn't quite find what he was looking for, but he did see something. There was a faint glimmer, only the keenest of eyes could see it. The only reason Zangu noticed it was from the 'training' of looking for small, hidden flowers.
"Hah!"
With a huff of breathe, he lept at the object, creating a puff of dried grass and leaves to swirl around him in the air for a moment. The moon barely lit it up, but the sound couldn't be hidden from anything.

Alcmene jumped when suddenly she heard the sound of another lion, there wasn't much else she could imagine making such noise. The voice, though faint, was not one she could identify easily but she knew it had to be a pride member. She looked around, stopping on where the sound seemed to come from, trying to see into the dark for who it was. She hesitated a moment before walking closer in her curiosity. It wasn't any formal situation, she didn't have to feel so awkward.. she couldn't feel so awkward forever.
She made no effort to hide her approach, though she moved slowly, soon seeing the outline of Zangu. She recognized it but not from personal interaction, and she came to a stop a distance away, watching.

Zangu gently pulled his paws apart, trying to see exactly what he had found. His eyes lit up for a moment as he searched between his paws, on the earth below. Nothing. He head sank as he released a loud sigh, his head flopping onto the ground for a moment. "Great," he grumbled, less than pleased.
Saying nothing was not quite correct. What had caught his eye was a stone. And while it was a pretty stone, there was nothing very special about it. It had a smooth surface, and that was what had caught the soft moonlight.
With another soft sigh, one admitting defeat, he raised his head to look around. The short grass around him tickled his belly, but he ignored it as he tried to see if there was anything else around. Maybe today wouldn't be a very good day to find these elusive flowers.
Well, he thought so until he noticed that there were eyes looking at him. Unsure what to do, he merely stared back for the moment.

When Zangu stared back at her, she couldn't help but look away. She was not supposed to things like that necessarily, she was pretty much on top of the hierarchy.. but it was more because it was awkward and she hadn't meant to outright stare than out of respect. Ally did not keep her eyes away, though, she glanced back upward. She edged closer curiously, she'd been found, there was no point just walking away.
"Hello," she called.

Zangu blinked a couple times before shaking his head. How rude! He might be of the upper middle class, but he knew better than to just stare at the queen!
He offered a bow, his eyes darting quickly to the ground. "Ah, I'm sorry about that," he said quietly before raising again. He let his eyes wander back to her, though. He didn't want her to seem out of place if she didn't want to. He wasn't brilliant, but he was smart enough to read subtle signs that could be pushed his way.
"May...may I help you with something?" he asked, not sure if there was a reason she was out here. He didn't want to seem like he was intruding, and his flower hunting would be a poor excuse if he distrubed her night. Stupid, stupid Zangu.

She shook her head when she apologized, but did not say anything. She was the one intruding on.. whatever it was he was doing exactly. Ally smiled sheepishly. She hadn't done much informal interaction in a while, she was out of practice- and she never really was in practice so it was doubly anxious.
"No, I was only out for a walk," she answered, glancing at where he had leaped, "What were you doing?" Her voice was very easy, more conversational and nervous than formal and serious.

"Ah..." he looked down where he had just been, and stood himself up, shaking off the bits of grass and leaves that had landed on his coat and mane. Afterwards he smiles sheepishly at her, though he wasn't certain if she could see it all.
"I was just...looking for flowers," he admitted. There was no point in lying to the queen; she was sure to find out someday about you if she cared to know. Might as well be upfront about it. "Afraid I hadn't found any though, so I was thinking about heading back to sleep...until I noticed you here." Which was...odd. He felt it rude to ask her why; she didn't need to explain herself to him.
"Turns out what I found was just a small stone, so I don't think there's any flowers out at night, anyway," he added on, hopefully saving her from asking another question.

"Oh," she murmured, glancing around at the mention of flowers. She didn't normally see flowers so much at night, they seemed more fond of the sun than the moon- which was rather sad, really. The Great Lion was missing out if he never really saw flowers, but he might have more important things on his mind.. like watching over all of them.
"That is too bad," she said, despite her decision that the Great Lion had other things to do, it never hurt to have flowers around, "I don't know if I've ever seen flowers in the dark, but I've never looked."

Zangu's ears perked as he watched her carefully. Something seemed off, but Zangu didn't know the queen well enough to mention anything. Instead, he let himself seem confused, almost worried.
"Have you ever looked for flowers in the day? They're quite lovely then," he said with a nod. "I've always heard stories of flowers at night, but I've never found any. I thought that since tonight was so beautiful, it would be perfect." He grunted to himself, beginning to mumble. "Maybe I'm going at this the wrong way....but what other way is there?" Perhaps he had to stop basing everything on his sight before he found what he wanted.
"Flowers bathed in the moon's soft light would be breathetaking to see," he said, his gaze starting to blur over as his mind wandered to his little habit of his. Oh, Zangu. Don't lose track in front of the queen!

Alcmene stopped to think about it. She'd had enough free time as a youth, but she'd always been so keen on learning what her father had to teach her, preparing for.. well, when she was queen. She never had the opportunity to just know everything and then just relax, not needing it quite yet. She learned and then she was put into the position where she used it, needed it. Perhaps she'd been spending too much time sulking now. No one could really stop her from doing what she wanted now, as long as she kept up with necessary duties.
"Aside from the plants we used for different things, like the one for when a rogue joins, I don't think I ever have," she answered honestly, sounding almost surprised by the realization, "Flowers in the moonlight would be a sight to see, I wonder where they might be found if they existed." Flowers who favored the moon's light, like the lions. They should pick the same lands they did, similar in layout at least. She thought back to the plants they used, trying to remember which she had seem in blossom and which she had not. Could it be one of them? But then why would it not have been mentioned to her when she learned?
Hmm!

Zangu's ear twitched. And twitched again. Frustrated, he took a moment to scratch at it with a hind leg. Ugh, it was impossible to think when there was an itch that just...needed to be itched!
Once he was satisfied, he let his ears perk forwards towards Alcmene. Hm, fine now.
"Really?" He was amazed! He always thought girls were just as mesmerized by flowers as he was...but maybe he was really that weird. Dang. That was a wake up call.
"I always thought they would be around here," he said as he glanced around. "Maybe they're in a different part....but I think the night will grow too old for me to look much longer." He wasn't quite young, and staying awake throughout the night to look for flowers was a little much even for him.
He stifled a yawn as he thought about it. "I wonder if any of the Historians might know..." He knew that this was a new land, but you never knew what they might know about!

"If anybody knew, you'd think it might be Shira," she suggested thoughtfully, keen on investigating it for herself now- it was a welcome distraction, and a rather sad realization that she had never paid attention to such things before, "She's the shaman after all. Or Mia, she's her apprentice." Maybe she would have to go and ask her sister about it, they specialized in plants quite a bit. Then there was.. that other lion, he'd had an interest in plants.
Her memory just wasn't good enough to remember everybody's names, she was working on that. She knew what everybody looked like, that was a good start at least.
"I wonder," she thought aloud, though quietly. Maybe Zizi would be a good lioness to ask, she'd certainly feel less silly asking her about it than Shira. Shira could get quite.. unfriendly.

Zangu grinned, feeling excited about the prospects of finding out. It wasn't exactly how he did things, but if it got to what he wanted he was up for helping out. He bobbed his head up and down before daring to ask what he felt.
"Do you think..." he started, pausing for a moment. Gulp, there was no going back now. She may be younger, but she was much higher than he. "Do you think perhaps we could meet here again, maybe after finding out some information, and look for the flower together? Or if not...perhaps at least learn if there's anything interesting that offer's itself to the moon at night." Even if it wasn't a flower, as long as it was something to admire Zangu would be up for it. He adored anything that glimmered. There were times where he could swear he had to be related to ravens, with his fixation on the shiny things in life.
