Narami sat along the banks of the river with boredom plastered on her face. What was she supposed to be doing again? Oh yeah...hunting. The rusty brown female hated hunting. How she got stuck with this rank was unknown to her. All she wanted to do was to flaunt her good looks for all the males, the ones she wasn't related to anyway. Perhaps tend to her glossy fur as well. The thought of getting blood all over her paws grossed her out immensely.
With her green eyes she glanced around, looking for a small rodent or something to scamper by. Maybe she could catch one without getting too dirty. Sighing, she got to her feet hoping she would find something to kill soon.

Shujaausi, typically, used his bulk to his advantage to take down larger prey rather than wasting his time with rodents - but then, he wasn't so concerned with getting dirty either. As a cub and a juve - and even a bit as an adolescent - Shuj's gigantic size had definitely been a hindrance to him, making even the simplest of things the most difficult of endeavors, but as an adult... He had grown into his previously oversized paws and now carried himself with a quiet, just-deserved grace. He was a true success story, and he was endlessly proud of his hunting. It wasn't arrogance; considering what he had put up with when he was younger, he was well justified in being proud of his accomplishments now. Today was one of those days. He hadn't taken down the largest beast in the herd, but he had taken down a decent old buck that had recently been pushed from the head of his family. It was the circle of life (cliche, but true) - the old and dying would nourish the young and thriving.
His bright red eyes widened minutely when he came over a ridge and noticed another lion in his path. A female, though he didn't necessarily recognize her - their pride was large enough. He thought he might have seen her once or twice - she didn't look too much younger so perhaps they had played together as cubs. Dropping his kill, he quirked an ear at her sigh before venturing in a deep bass, "Everything all right?"

Narami flicked her ears back, as if she were ready to brace something thrown at her. At first she thought it was a higher rank coming to fuss at her for not hunting. But as her eyes focused on the male, she realized he was the same as her. A huge kill he had, must be an expert hunter. The lioness had never seen such a large lion before. Perhaps she was still a bit small stature.
"Everything's great..." She said, rolling her eyes slightly but not at him.
With delicate legs she padded closer to him, her eyes on his kill. The poor beast's eyes were bulging and lifeless. Her stomach churned. Disgusting. It was obvious with the expression on her face. Quickly, before she felt the need to gag, she looked up at Shuj, making eye contact.
"I'm...uh. Narami. You are?" She tilted her head to the side in question.

He watched her carefully, not sure whether or not he trusted her answer. She had looked like she was about ready to jump out of her skin when he'd spoken - at least, until she had looked at him. Strange, it usually went the other way around: they saw him and then jumped. His brow furrowed, his expression a mask of confusion and interest as he watched her come closer to him without hesitation. She didn't appear to be frightened by him, or put off by his appearance, so why had she reacted so? And what in the world had she been doing? The curiosity gnawed at him for a few moments as he continued to keep his eyes on her.
Her expression when she looked at the kill almost made him laugh, though he settled for a soft smile. Apparently she didn't find the sight of death appealing - or at least not the grueling and unattractive presentation of death by a lion's kill. His own head tilted to one side as he peered at her, hind legs folding behind him so that he sat heavily.
At her question, he bowed his head slightly, "It's a pleasure to meet you, Narami. I'm Shujaausi, but I won't begrudge you the shortened version: Shuj." Clearing his throat, he ventured, "If you don't mind, may I ask what you were doing?"

The female nodded, attempting to comprehend his words. She wasn't used to an adult talking to her really. Mostly just her siblings and other lions her age. She attempted to wipe the disgustedness off her face, by adding a grin at the male. Maybe she wouldn't come off as too vain.
"Shuj, that's interesting." She stated. "Well, I was hunting. But...it's terrible. I can't kill anything to save my life."
Glancing down at the carcass again, she winced.
"I just can't stand the thought of killing another creature. Sure, I'll eat it. But the killing process is a bit too harsh for me."
And she didn't want her paws to be stained with blood...should she have mentioned that as well?

At first he was distractingly confused by her admittance: can't kill anything to save herself? Then why in the world was she hunting to begin with? All the same, he listened politely to her explanation while quietly attempting to shield his amusement at her disgust. Her grin could not hide her true feelings for long as she winced at the kill and he absently pulled it closer to him and away from her offended gaze with one oversized paw in an attempt to put her more at ease.
"Why is it interesting?" He ventured, a single brow arching as he watched her before quickly adding, "My name, I mean."
It took him a few seconds to gather the courage and collect the right phrasing to his next question: he definitely had no intentions of offending her, "And what in the world were you doing hunting if you detest it so?" He smiled, "You should leave it to those that don't mind it."
