Zizi was curled up in the lap of nature, beneath a bright full moon, half hidden in the long grass patch that grew not far from her den. Her duties done she was taking it easy. Her son, Zo as she called him much to his adolescent annoyance, had brought her her pouch full of the black and white striped 'humbugs' she favoured. Every now and then, a tarnished paw reached out to snag a tasty treat as she dozed and remembered the old days, pondering too the days to come...

She wasn't expecting any visitors either. But that didn't mean they wouldn't be welcome.

After the incident with Fafnir, thanks to the discovery of her new little avian friend, Alcmene had been isolating herself more and more. She still did what was necessary, she just spent much of her free time by herself (with Biti, of course) and not really talking to anybody. She was still not talking to her father and she felt awkward talking to her mother and she just wasn't sure she could talk to her siblings so.. she felt she had a system that was working for her. Biti was learning more about the pride, he had been quite excited to learn she was a queen, but he was still disconnected and still a nice escape from life.

Isolated and timid she was, but also restless. So she went out for a walk, Biti settled comfortably on her back as he often did now. She didn't know where she was going to go until she passed by the familiar form of a friend.. she stopped for a moment and stared, wondering if she should dare to go and talk to Zizi. She'd already lost one friend.. but Zizi was closer in rank and she was not as stupid as Fafnir was. It was silly to worry about that!

"Zizi," she spoke up finally, walking closer.

Biti was learning a lot about the pride he had found himself settling in with, and with the help of Alcmene he was learning more about being a proper bird. He still wasn't flying perfectly but he was getting smarter, it helped having a much smarter creature around helping you figure stuff out. He still hadn't realized he was not going to be much of a songbird, and as they walked he sang. His songs were more like random shrill sounds, often causing annoyance, but he was free to do as he liked so long as Alcmene was not annoyed. And she seemed to encourage his songs.

When Ally stopped to stare at a nearby lion, Biti tried to lean over as far as he could to get a look without falling off. He blinked, "Who's that, Ally?" His answer came when she called out, and he let out a single nervous squeak as he tried to right himself. He'd not been introduced to any other lion in casual setting, and in formal settings no one really paid him any attention. Was this different? He would find out.

Zizi blinked open her eyes and pulled herself up into a sitting position. She bobbed her head to her queen politely, however, her warm smile was far less formal. She'd befriended her when she was just a youngster and in her heart she still held on to that image of her youngest friend as dearly as she held on to the images of Upenzi, Ukene and Utunzo as cubs. Of course she still showed all due reverence to Queen Alcmene in formal situations but when the lovely adolescent came a' visting she couldn't help but greet her as -

"Ally my dear! And a little bird too. My, you'd best come sit by me, have a humbug and introduce us properly." She smiled at the little brown creature and her friend in turn.

Ally's heart skipped a beat to hear such a friendly voice, she should have known to come and see Zizi sooner. But you could say that about anything, she could argue she should have known better than to bother talking to Fafnir again but.. she definitely didn't, and it still hurt to think about it. She smiled and walked up to her friend, hopping on her back legs a bit to get Biti to move so he wouldn't fall when she sat down. She wasted no time settling comfortably beside Zizi.

"His name is Biti," she introduced him, glancing up at him, "I found him a couple days ago, he was abandoned." Her voice quieted when she explained how such a small and young bird came into her care, though he still seemed completely unbothered by it, she didn't want to make him feel bad about it.

Biti chirped again when he was bounced up, and fluttered his wings as he scrambled to get to where he would not fall. The best option was to hop his way up her neck and settling into the fur on her head. He smiled and chirped happily when he was introduced.

"Pleased to meetcha!" he said, immediately spitting out the polite thing to say that Alcmene had taught him for when he was introduced. It was like a game to him, he had yet to get bored of any of the rather typical and somewhat uninteresting things that the queen often did.

"Help yourselves to sweets." Zizi softly patted the bag of humbugs, which softly lived up to their nickname as the bag made a huuum. One of the striped insecs wormed its way out, fluttered its wings and crawled off into the grass. One of the smartest of it's kind. Or perhaps just lucky.

"Pleased to meet you too Biti. So, Ally....how have you been my dear?"

Rarely did Alcmene take Zizi up on the offer of humbugs, but she always smiled and always expected to have them offered. It was just something Zizi did. Her smile twitched a bit when she was asked how she had been as she thought about her answer. What should she say? Busy would be honest, but completely impersonal. Lonely was more like the whole truth, but that had gone horribly last time she said it. She had Biti, and he was a big help, but he was still so young he wouldn't understand everything she was going through, especially with Fafnir.

But now she was hesitating too long.

"Busy," she said hurriedly when she realized it, "And- and lonely." She couldn't help but say it, and she flinched a bit when she felt Biti jump from her head, glancing at him before glancing back at Zizi with a sad smile.

Biti's interest in the conversation was limited, his attention span was not too bad but he was very distracted by the escaped insect. He hesitated in going after it, wondering if either of them would mind- and once there was a bit of silence, he decided he probably could just hop off on his own and hunt it down. He didn't want to just lose it, after all!

So he hopped down from Ally's head, using his wings to help soften his landing as he might if he were flying down. Once he was on the ground, he hopped off into the grass to try to catch up to the lucky bug.
