A chocolaty brown lioness practically hoped happily to her sleeping area, two plump hares dangling lifelessly from her maw. She was in a very fine and chipper mood as she went about her morning routine. A bit of a pooch was beginning to form in her midsection and she was feeling the tell tale signs of pregnancy, her heart soared at the thought of carrying Unyezi's cubs.
She was going to tell him, hopefully not prematurely about her suspicions of being pregnant. Dropping the hares near her sleeping mates body she spoke, "Rise and shine, my love." she purred and poked her face into his mane. "I've got breakfast!" She was excited, the mere thought of cubs helped with her empty nest feeling and to smother the fears she had about Indu. This time would be different, this time..she had Unyezi and he had proven to be a competent father..thus far.

Unyezi had considerably less on his mind since his discussion with Fafnir. He had cheered up and decided to focus on and appreciate what he did have rather than worry about what he no longer had and the dramatic effect it had had on .. well, everything. He loved Nerit and would never have been happy if he had not done what he had done, this was how life was supposed to be. Sleeping soundly for the first time a couple weeks, Unyezi had not woken when Nerit got up to hunt but the thump of the hares dropped by his side and her sweet voice woke him. One eye opened and he smiled up at Nerit, taking a moment to stretch out his legs and back before sitting up.
"Breakfast?" he asked, looking from Nerit to the hares, "What have I done to deserve such generous treatment?"

She laughed at the question, what hadn't he done! Unyezi has changed Nerit's life in so many ways for the better. She no longer felt bitter, although at times she felt guilt for his changing of status and relationship with his children. He had given her a new start, and she hoped she supplied the same to him.
"By being handsome," she answered playfully, "I was feeling like a good chase and hares are always exciting to catch." She rubbed against his shoulder and did not move for him to eat breakfast.
How to tell him she was expecting? She was slightly fearful he would not approve..but how could he not? They'd discussed wanting a family of their own before and he seemed open to the idea. Oh, silly ideas fluttered through her mind. Perhaps she would wait until she was too fat to ignore is!

"Handsome? I don't know about that," he said with a chuckle, but still he took a moment to shake the dust from his mane and fur, the typical accumulation from resting on the ground. The lame attempt at grooming was pointless, though, for Nerit continued on about how she had been wanting a good chase. A mediocre hunter at best, Unyezi had never felt quite that way, but still it made him smile.
"And you caught two of them, very impressive," he complimented cheerfully, nuzzling against her when she moved closer- though he wondered when she did not move again. Would it be a bad idea to ask if something was up?

Nerit beamed proudly at his compliment, hunting was one of her favorite things to do as errand and sport a way to relax and enjoy being in her own fur.
"You'll have to be handsome, our children will need someone to get their good looks from!" She gave him a queer look titling her head slyly. This lion was her Unyezi, her mate and he had sacrificed the world for her..surely he would not be disappointed in sharing more of his love with their cubs.
"I think..we'll know soon enough whose looks they will get," she secretly hoped every one of them was identical to Unyezi and nothing like his brother. Although Unyezi's sister was beautiful, perhaps they will pass on their wonderful genes.

Unyezi made a face when she said he'd have to be handsome for their cubs, opening his mouth to argue that she had plenty of looks to go around-- until he realized just what she had said. He hesitated, closing his mouth again, staring at her as she continued. He blinked. Twice.
"Soon?" he repeated, and finally his funny, about-to-argue look changed into a smile, "You don't mean..?" He leaned back and away from Nerit, leaning a bit to get a look at her middle. He was no expert, last time had been such work the memory of it was clouded by the stress and worry.. that wasn't how this felt, this was .. something else.

Nerit spread out her stance to show the little pooch of a belly that was forming, it was not much but could mean something! She wanted very much to believe it was the forming of cubs and not that she was gaining weight from taking better care of herself-- like getting hares and bringing breakfast in before starting her pridal duties of the day.
"Well, I think so.. not too soon, but soon. It feels much the same as when I carried Ind-" she cut herself off and swallowed a lump in her throat that she was not expecting. "Indu's pregnancy was easy enough, and I had no complications. Only ever having the one litter I don't know what to expect or the signs of expecting, I could take a trip to Mitsuki.." she beamed at him.
"I really hope for this," she looked at him trying to decipher his expression and feelings.

It seemed to sudden, so fast. Their conversation about having cubs seemed like it was only yesterday, they hadn't put any thought into it, any timing, any stress.. this was just.. their family. It was strange, having so little stress attached to the process, to the pregnancy itself. At that moment, and unusual looks or one-sided stories the cubs might hear didn't matter, didn't enter his mind.
He was speechless at first, doing the first thing he could think to do- even before she could finish her sentence about when she had had Indu, he got up to his feet and nuzzled against her happily, resting his head by her shoulder.
"What good news to wake up to," he said finally, deciding not to comment on her desire to check in with Mitsuki about it. He would rather avoid her entirely, but he knew that would be impossible.

Nerit side stepped holding tightly to his side, "Good news!" She exhaled the words excitedly. Everything would be just fine! She did not worry about their rank, in the chocolate lioness' mind rank did not matter, if the great lion saw fit to watch their birth Nerit would rejoice and if he did not she would as well. As long as they had each other, and even the pride that might look at them funnily, she was sure they would all be safe.
Nerit did not notice his skipping over her idea to visit Mitsuki she was just excited to spill her good news to him. "I hope they look just like you!" she had been thinking about their looks since the idea struck her she might be pregnant. "Your toes, your ears.." she purred and pressed her nose against his ear.

Unyezi nuzzled lovingly against his mate again, he wasn't sure what he was supposed to do, how he was supposed to feel.. this was new for the both of them but made awkward by the fact they'd both experienced the same basic situation before.. just in different circumstances. He loved his cubs, he loved them all, but this was.. different.
"Your beautiful eyes," he added, stepping back so he could see her eyes again, licking her nose affectionately, "Our own little family."
