The sun was setting in the distance and the savannah air was finally beginning to cool. Careful not to disturb her siblings, the small cub crept from the den and eased her way into the pride's lands. She was always more active during the night and felt a strong connection with both the darkness and the still atmosphere. It seemed it was the only time in which Kasdeya could think to herself and plan the bold life she believed she deserved.
She was only a cub and already was she showing great enthusiasm towards her pride. She did not doubt for a moment that she possessed the spirit of a powerful demon and that she would achieve greatness just like this demon desired.
As she sat and watched the sun become consumed by the darkness, she shut her eyes for a moment and envisioned the event she would prepare for during her entire life. She had heard that each heir would have the opportunity to join in an epic battle to challenge one another to the position of royal heir to the pride. Having been born from the original pridal founder, Kasdeya fully believed she deserved this position above all others.
Nyota was the first of his siblings to stir, and he rose with a stretch and a yawn. How many moons had it been since he'd first become aware of the world? Frankly, he'd lost count. Not that it truly mattered...
Already, he considered himself the strongest of the cubs. After all, none of them had been scarred in battle yet. None of them had claimed a beast as their prey, carving the symbol of the demons into the creature's hide for all to behold. None of the other cubs wore bones the way he did...
His muzzle parted in a smirk and he rose, bones clinking together as he ventured out into the night.

Before Nyota became visible to Kasdesya, the lioness heard the clinking of bones approaching. Aware of those within the pride, she turned her head to view the blue, scarred cub. Though she had never had the opportunity to really meet him, Kasdeya had watched him from afar and made assumptions about him. He seemed to wander about as though he ruled the place.
With a grunt of disgust, the lioness turned her attention from him, as though she had much better things to concern herself with. Although his father was also a King of the pride, he was not the first to hear Mortifaer and be told of his inner demon. That alone put him beneath Kadeya's father and beneath her as well.
Though Kasdeya played it off as though she didn't even hear Nyota, the cub remained alert and aware of changes in her surroundings. If he tried anything, she would be ready.
Nyota had to admit he'd seen Kasdeya around before, but nothing about her really caught his eye. She was just average, much like the rest of her siblings and his. Even his cousin, Bavu was more interesting that her.
Then again, there was nothing wrong with that. It just meant that demons with the eyes were that much more special, and that much more powerful.
So the darker cub merely sat down, watching the female with an intent gaze.
When Nyota simply sat and watched, Kasdeya could feel the stare of his eyes onto her back. Turning her head to look at him, the lioness' ears lowered and her eyes narrowed at him. He had a few more scars since she noticed last and it appeared as though his bone collection was growing. While the blue cub valued his possessions, the brown and black female doubted that he had really earned them on his own.
With a huff, the female was the first to break the silence, "Is there something you'd like to say, or would you prefer to watch me and remain silent?" Kasdeya's attitude was obvious in both her voice as well as her expressions. She clearly did not like Nyota and was bothered by his company. Why did he have to come and sit so close to her anyways?
"Maybe we could practice," Nyota offered, smirking softly. Too bad the lioness didn't know he had earned the bones fair and square. He'd felled many small prey beasts to make his bone jewelry, and the few things he hadn't felled himself had been gifts from his mother or Matata.

When Nyota asked whether the two cubs could practice, Kasdeya cocked her head and thought for a moment before responding. While not entirely certain what he was refering to, the lioness assumed that it would make the most sense if he meant to challenge her to some sort of mock fight so that they could both practice for the great tournament in which she longed to be a part of.
Getting to her feet and finally looking fully at the blue cub, Kasdeya snorted. "I wouldn't decline a challenge," and though her voice was confident, the small cub had never actually engaged in any type of combat that was even partially serious. She had roughed up her siblings, but never actually intended to hurt them.
Kasdeya was mature for her age, but she was still a cub and learning.
