A friend of mine has a Class III shotgun, which had been sawed off to 12.5" BBL. However, through an odd string of events, the barrel was stolen and the shotgun remains, in working order, but without a barrel. So he's looking to buy a standard barrel and get rid of it again as a standard shotgun. However, it's still registered as a Class III firearm. Does anyone know if there's a way to get the Class III status revoked so he doesn't have to pay a $200 tax stamp to transfer a normal gun?

I don't think there is. You would have to actually contact the BATF for a sure answer.
