Today I was lounging about in my semi-underwear semi-shorts and the dogs started barking, I looked outside and saw a delivery van, FedEx white truck.
I figured it was FedEx dropping off the ammo from Sportsmansguide.
Anyway, for whatever reason I told myself, "put your damn pants on!"

I put them on and went outside, the guy was still getting the package(s) out of the back.
I was shocked and instantly knew what it was.
A long box and a small square box.

I had to sign for it so that really affirmed what was delivered.

Yup, there was cosmo to be removed.

I haven't seen an action so clean on a gun that old in way too long!

Epic score! Take care of that or I'll track you down and give it a better home! dramallama

Huh, as soon as I get a job and enough money I'll be getting a Garand as well.
wink

Apparently the discolorations are dried cosmoline.
So, I'll need some solvent and a brush and it'll be practically new.

Found out that this rifle is from 1942.

Oh and from the manual I got; Here's how you sling the sling.

The carbine sling is an olive drab, cotton web strap, adjustable to the soldier using it. In one end are the two button holes about 3 3/4 inches apart, through which a bronze button passes to form a loop. To the other end is attached a lock buckle to allow the sling strap to slide through the buckle and then locked upon the strap to hold the adjustment thus attained. The button end of this sling passes around the oiler through the opening in the left side of the stock after the oiler has been positioned in an aperture on the right side of the stock near the butt. The button holes are then mated and the button passed through them to hold the oiler in the loop so formed. The outer end of the sling strap passes through the sling swivel attached to the left side of the front band. The oiler acts as an anchor pin for the rear end of the sling as well as a means of lubricating the carbine.

Helpful?
I found the writing style to be a bit odd.

He's got a post-war barrel too. They didn't put the bayonet lugs on until '45 or so. I say just call it a Korea gun.

Somewhere along the line someone put the lug on. Probably when it was last refurbished.
Barrel is marked 4-43.

Rear sight seems to only be in by a dove tail.
Ah crap... I see the stakes.

Apparently my grandpa used to have a couple pistols that were chambered for m1 carbine ammo. Unfortunately he traded them for a load of bricks. crying

Whaaaaaaat?

I saw a handgun that was chambered in .30 Carbine.
That sucker has a long barrel, must be about +7" long.
AMT AutoMag III is the one I saw.

Yeah he said it ran pretty hot and kicked pretty bad but was an overall good gun. Apparently he has had quite a history of being suckered out of good weapons. He had an M1 carbine, a beretta (92f i think), when he was a kid he had a 1911, and God knows what other guns.
