Softly, softly. Tread softly now. Move silently, don't draw attention. Just keep on going. Past the dens and across to the meadows where the prey lurks. That sneaky, horrible prey.

Ivie'lingwa was huntress of the Mwezi'johari. It was a common role for a lioness, not much to be proud of in the grand scheme of things. But, for Ivie, her job was everything. She'd made such a mess of her life and was still making a mess of it, but atleast she had a home now. And a job to do.

A shame, really, that she wasn't a very good huntress, that she wasn't good at tackling big game and often brought home a rabbit or large bird for the pride. This was probably because she didn't team up with the rest of the hunting party. But what could she do? If she went with them her erratic seer abilities might act up and then they'd realise her for what she was.

A freak.

She paused in the dappled green light of the trees and lifted her head, studying the area with silent, observant eyes.

And then distant voices had her cowering, backing away, back-tracking a little to circle further around. Ugh, she was weary of this hiding.

Sunlight... Angani squinted his bi-colored eyes as he awoke from a quick nap and headed out. As a guard, he had to be vigilant at any hour of the day, and as such, he rarely slept all in one sitting. Some in the morning, some at midday, some at sunset, some at night... But never at the same times as the day before. He allowed his eyes to adjust and padded out towards the boundaries. It'd be a bit of a jaunt for himself, he'd have to go from his current position- roughly the center- to any border he chose... He just headed outward.

Border patrols were so much more enjoyable than making sure waking-newcomers didn't run from a distasteful rank. He always felt a shred of pity. Never too much, though, or else the lion knew he wouldn't be able to successfully do his job. "What a day..." he muttered to himself.

In passing, he caught another lion's scent on the wind and decided to head that way.

She didn't notice him. Not until it was too late and she'd already stepped away from cover. She sort of froze mid-step, hovering there as if unsure whether to move or whether to flee. Maybe if she stayed really still then he'd miss her. Or maybe if she ran he'd think he imagined her.

And then she gave a soft growl and forced herself to relax, setting herself so she balanced her weight equally on all four paws.

What was wrong with her? Why was she so jumpy?

Heck, she knew why. The damn visions. Her damn freakish nature. She couldn't let a pride member catch her in this sort of state. Not after...not after...

"Ugh..."

Angani also paused and blinked a few times to make sure his eyes hadn't deceived him. Certainly not, another lion, he was sure he could see the outline. Then again, whoever they were blended in ok... He wasn't entirely sure until his ears caught sound of the groan. He supposed he could take a detour from his route to patrol, yes.

The male padded casually towards her. She seemed somewhat upset about something, though. His brows furrowed with concern as he came to recognize her, she was a pride member, though he didn't know her name. "Hey, are you ok? Something wrong?" He asked when he got close enough that he wasn't shouting. Had someone from outside made it in and upset her or something? He was immediately suspicious of such and occurance and checked out the horizon, though he caught no signs of an outsider.

"N-no, I'm fine." She steeled her breath and forced herself to calm. It was only another member of the pride. Albeit a handsome member of the pride. He wasn't going to come close or touch her unless she instigated anything. Which, for once, she was not going to do.

She couldn't be a flirt every moment of her life, after all.

"I don't think we've met before." She continued, her voice quiet and a little shaky. "I'm Ivie'lingwa. Been here for a few weeks. Joined as a rogue and was given the position of huntress."

She smiled.

"That's good to hear," the guard said, relaxing a bit. So nobody had intruded- he hadn't failed his job. Ang nodded as she introduced herself. He'd heard the name, and seen her from a distance, but he'd never talked to her, nor connected the name and face. And the title, too, he remembered that. "Nice to meet you," he said with a dip of the head. "My name's Angani, I'm a guard, particularly of sleeping rogues..." He remembered her then, but doubted she remembered him. Mostly in those cases, he was simply present, but a short distance away, giving those with work to do room, so it wouldn't be unusual for a new member to not remember him. He would only get close if an escape was underway... Which wasn't needed in her case.

She nodded, putting on an awkward sort of smile. "Nice to meet you, too." She felt bad that she didn't recognise him, or even his name. She was usually so wrapped up in her own problems that she didn't notice much of anything else...unless she happened to bump into them like she had today.

"Sleeping rogues...?" She echoed softly, shaking her head.

"You must have a very interesting job, Angani." She replied, looking up at him through her eyelashes. "Meeting rogues, defending the lands. I shouldn't think I would be any good at that, being as small as I am." She wasn't even a good huntress but she wasn't about to say that.

"Were you born in these lands?"

"I love my job, I do find it somewhat interesting..." He said, eyes turning skyward in thought. "I suppose you could say I was born here. Our pride used to be elsewhere on the savannah, and then came the war..." His thoughts turned momentarily to the pain of the war, the pain of losing his father. The corners of his mouth turned downward for just a moment before he shook those memories from his mind. "And then the pride had to move to find the sleeping herb, so I was born with the pride, and moved into these lands." He said.

"... I guess that's why I make a good guard," he said as if it was an epiphany. "I've got some experience with fighting, if I need to... And I certainly have the drive to protect what we've got here." He explained giving the idea a nod.

"Where were you born?" He asked, knowing it wasn't with the pride.

"Oh yes." She replied in answer to his statement about moving home. "I remember now. Thoth told me about the pride's past before I came here. He told me about your journey. So you are one of those original members?" Her eyes cleared. She remembered!

"I met Thoth when I was out in rogue lands. He told me about this place and I knew, from that moment, that I had to find it." She blinked and shook her head. "Odd how things work out. Some futures remain fuzzy until the future is present...and then...then it no longer matters." She was waffling, she realised and shook her head again.

"You look very strong." She replied with a smile. "I certainly feel safer knowing you protect these lands."

And then she looked startled. He cared about her past? But why? She was not a birth-member? She had not done anything special or heroic. But...he wasn't to know that, and was it really so bad to tell him something of her? It was an odd feeling, to think that someone was enquiring about her past. Did he actually care or was it polite conversation? Either way, she would answer him.

"I was born in the Pridelands." She replied. "Have you heard of them? A beautiful place. Peaceful. Busy. Food always plentiful." One might wonder, from that, why she had ever left. Oh, it was a complicated story.

"Yup, sure am," Ang said, remembering quickly both the good and the bad emotions associated with the old pridal lands. That war... Had been so crazy. But that was all in the past now, so he pushed those thoughts from his mind. He could think on them later. The lion nodded in agreement with her words on the future. "That seems to be a good way of putting it," he said, looking skyward thoughtfully before returning his gaze to the lioness before him.

"Oh yes, I know somewhat of the Pridelands. I've never been there myself, but I've heard enough of them to know where they are and what it's like there. It sounds nice there, every time I hear of them." Nice, yes, but not watched by the great lion. Well, not as much, at the very least.

She nodded slowly. "Nice...yes...but not home any longer. And never again. My heart is here, now." Her eyes looked shadowed for a moment and then she continued, slowly.

"Can I assume that we are friends, now, Angani?" She seemed eager for him to confirm this. Eager to think that she had someone here she could talk to.

It wasn't nice...being alone.

"Understandable. I feel the same way about the old lands. A part of my past, an old home, but home is now here where we've rebuilt. It's a good symbol of the future, isn't it?" he asked. To him, that was perhaps the biggest reason why he didn't feel like the old pridal lands were home- they didn't hold a future for the Mwezi'Johari. They only held a past- a locked and decided fate. However, these new lands... Held endless possibilities. And that was a feature that could outweigh any other.

He was kind of surprised at her question, it seemed a bit out of the blue, but he didn't mind. With a smile, a nod, and a content expression, he said "Yeah, I'd say we're friends. Definitely." Angani was always happy to make another friend.
