I don't do much on this forum, but I'm pretty sure that's gonna change. About two weeks ago I was kicked out of my house for being a furry! My dad (who already knew) got on my ps3 and saw some of the artwork that I had. He had a melt down, called me up, and told me to get my S#!T and get out. I don't understand why the hell he just decided to go off over it, I'm 19! First there was a misunderstanding a year ago and I got arrested, then I get laid off, and in the mist of a two year probation and a fruitless job search he kicks me out.

What is it about us furries that make people us so much. You'd figure they'd get used to us!

I'm a tad confused as to why that would upset him myself, mostly because of the lack of information regarding the situation. I mean, how does he know? Did he tell you? Lots of information lacking here... For all I know it was gay furry art and he went ballistic over gay porn rather than furry porn.

Also, furry is still in the process of going mainstream. Once the fandom is diluted enough within mass culture, no one will care a bit. It's not a matter of acceptance but of apathy, like with the "I don't care" attitude taken with things like motorcyclists. Motorcyclists have existed for a long time, but were generally only a very small number of hobbyists who actually drove them and worked on them. Then pop culture hit them and the motorcyclist was transformed into a bad boy outlaw rebel without a cause. People as a whole had a negative image of them, with a growing number of people seeing them as cool. Today, you will see motorcycles in pink with Hello Kitty on them. From Businessmen to regular people across the globe, anyone can be a motorcyclist. They're just motorcyclists. Nothing special, nothing new. There is some negative attachments to them for their noise and dangerous driving on the freeway and even some older "rebels" and newer rebels with motorcycles. But most of the time, it's just regular people. The negative images are still there but...well, it's just not interesting enough anymore.

It's not a matter of riding out the wave of pop culture, rather, it's adapting to a change that furry will become mainstream. It won't be on the streets and corporations won't sell products targeted towards furries (unless the fandom grows significantly). It won't be a sudden shift to anything. It will grow, it will seem to "dilute" with more new people coming in with some people possibly believing the fandom is being "ruined". It won't be the same as a whole. Instead, it will just be like being a gamer.* The usual, the uninteresting, the "so what?"

* I should note that the very idea of being a "gamer" is probably starting to grow out of the pop-culture point and into the mainstream point. There's still the various attacks on gaming (questions of it as an art form, addictions, accusations of creating violence, all that). However, a quote I barely remember from someone in the gaming industry said it well. That as the old media (TV and Movies) grips with the idea of more people moving towards the new media (Games and even the internet), they will attack this new form taking viewers away from it. ...As an aside, if it isn't obvious, a LOT of people are gamers. This is very very new since it wasn't long ago that it was a hobby for only a select few. It's grown to the point where even grandma can play a game or two on the Wii. The idea of a Gamer is changing just like the idea of a motorcyclist. It's not early teen males who can't get any sitting alone in a dark room lit by only the glow of a TV. It's almost everyone....though the early teen males who can't get any do seem to be the common group to scream profanity and slurs of racist, sexist, and heterosexist nature on Xbox live I hear.

...feel free to argue with me over that if you disagree! It's just my opinion.

...and for all we know, you're trolling.

It's not that we don't feel sympathy for people to whom this happens, but I at least am cynical when told a story with too few details.

Don't think I have heard of anyone being kicked out for being a fan of anthros.

Well you are 19, and got sent to jail, and jobless, and have a ps3 all at the same time. Being a furry might not be the main focus of you getting kicked out. I don't see how its trolling, I think going around pointing fingers is trolling.

This contributes to my hypothesis that "troll" is a catch-all term like "people". Everyone's a troll these days no matter what they do. 3nodding

Martin Luther King didn't care if the world was ready for it, Susan B. Anthony didn't care either, they went for what they thought was right, at a time when such things ideas were seen as obscene to the majority of the people. Lets just keep doing what we're doing and until someone gets fired for being a furry, we should just live on.

Yeeea, I don't think it's quite the same. Unless you're a Therian.

Different, yet still another of the many faces of discrimination for extremely silly reasons.
It's nowhere near the importance of black man's freedom and respect in modern society, but it's still rather sad when people can lose their roof over something they're interested in.

Not the first time I hear about someone getting kicked out for being furry though - it's happened to a few friends a while back.

Specifically, a troll is someone who posts a statement or story which will arouse strong emotion (anger, sympathy, etc.) which, in truth, is misplaced, and just does it for the lulz.

I had the same gut reaction as some others here, but I'll address this as if it were serious.

It typically is a straw-that-broke-the-camel's back sort of thing, I doubt a parent would kick their kid out for being a furry, exclusively. Sounds like you've made some poor choices in your life that have contributed to this. You've also reached age of majority.

Instead of worrying about "fursecution" I'd say it's time to focus on making a life for yourself, and making good choices. And if you're trying to find a job, spending more time on forums might not be a good choice.

There are people in this world being raped, murdered, truly exiled, tortured, losing property and land, over religion, ethnicity, sexuality, gender, and so on. This is happening on a large scale. Roma are being murdered in Hungary and in many places around the world. Homosexuals are being tortured to death in Iraq. For the most part, we've got it pretty darn good. Crying persecution and developing a martyr complex helps no one and certainly doesn't help the public take us seriously.

actually, my dad's side of the family would kick me out their house if they knew I was a furry. They think it's up there with being homosexual
