All hell has broken loose, everybody is rioting, panicking, and/or trying to get the hell out of Dodge. You need to leave and head somewhere safe.

When this happens you won't have time to gather your things and make plans, you need a Bug-out-bag ready, or at least have a list ready hand for the things you intend on bringing.

What do you do? Who do you bring? What items are needed for a basic 3-day BOB, and where should someone go when SHTF (Rural, Urban, Sub-Urban)?

Possible scenarios include: Massive Uprising/ Civil War, Invasion, or a totalitarian takeover.

Share your plans and help others make theirs.

I'm staying here. I'm halfway between ******** nowhere and extreme-right hicksville. My house could be reasonably self-sufficient with rather little work.

I have my BOB/camping bag and am only missing food and water, but those can be grabbed really fast.

SHTF and I REALLY need to leave NOW, I'll be floating out to sea. Advantages are that I don't have to worry about weight and bulk (within reason). Downside is gas.

Well, closest town/city is Forest Lake.
And I doubt that's a big place that people would riot in.

I'd stay here unless people started coming by breaking stuff.
But in that eventuality, I'd rather cap their asses than run away.

On a side note, I've somehow ended up with two M40 ProMasks in my room before we deployed, and they're in storage now; but if anyone really wants one, I'm sure we could work something out.

What the rad pills? Yeah I don't really think they'll do much; but I grabbed them from the supply room, so eh. Honestly, I don't think any of the chemical gear we're issued will do jack s**t to protect us in the event of a nuclear attack.

No, it's because K40 is pretty ******** radioactive. Ever held a Geiger counter up to a banana?

I'm no chemist, but I'm pretty damn sure that most of the potassium in a banana is K41 and K39 isotopes. And by that I mean 99.99%, if not more. Honestly, you can probably find some radiation signature off my d**k if you held a Geiger to it. Nothing to be alarmed about in such a low dosage. In any case, (probably should have clarified that earlier) the way our NBC specialist explained it to us, Potassium Iodine is supposed to protect you from absorbing concentrated radioactive particles. Whether it actually works or not I wouldn't know, nor do I hope to find out; but if the unthinkable does happen, you better believe I'm poppin' those pills and donning my full MOPP gear.

I tried my Geiger counter on a banana, nothing.
I've also tried my geiger counter in a bucket of water softener salt, nothing.

It picks up background radiation just fine, and when I'm by the smoke detector it ticks a bit more frequently.

I suppose I should buy some Uranium to test it out.

:/

And perhaps a lead container to put it in. lol

You wanna know the funny bit? If you put a Geiger counter to your d**k and got a reading, it'd be coming from potassium isotopes in your blood.

To be honest, it's probably got less radioactivity than your average banana, but it just SOUNDS horribly counterproductive to put on anti-nuclear clothes and then eat a pill with a mixture of two of the most common radioactive isotopes in it.
