Welcome to a squeaky new rp biggrin
This is a dystopian future rp based on the V for Venetta film. While it won't follow the same plot necessarily, it's the same basic environment etc. If you like, you can even play V for Vendetta characters - but make sure to fill out the character sheet for them.

The rp is set in London, the U.k in the year 2030. After a biological weapons scare, Britian has been turned into a christian fascist totalitarian state, ruled by 'Norsefire' aka 'The Party'.
Everyone is monitored through CCTV, there is a vigilant secret police. other religions, imigrants, political leftists and homosexuals are persecuted and imprisoned, often killed or put in conentration camps....
The USA is dissolving and gripped by a 2nd civil war

But a few are fighting for freedom. How they do it is up for debate....

About Norsefire/ 'The Party'

The openly-fascist Norsefire comes to power in the film through the ordinary political process, with 87% of the vote. The mechanism is elaborated in the film to a much greater extent than was ever discussed in the comic. However, much of the following explanation comes from Finch's speculation that the biological attacks were a Reichstag fire ploy. His fears are "confirmed" by a discussion with one of the agents involved, but it is later made clear that this was V impersonating the real agent who was 20 years dead, manipulating Finch to get to Creedy. However, much of the plan is confirmed by other sources, especially V's own background.

In place of the nuclear war of the novel version, biological weapons are used instead. Alan Moore later states in the foreword to the trade paperback edition of V for Vendetta that scientists now felt that even a "limited" nuclear war was not survivable. Thus biological weapons would today be considered more plausible. In the film, Norsefire had staged a plan that would sweep them into full control of the nation; after they had a firm grip on Parliament, they conducted horrific medical experiments on prisoners in the detention centers to perfect a deadly virus (as well as the cure for it) which they then used to stage a terrorist attack by foreign religious extremists.

To maximize its effect, the virus was released in a water treatment plant called Three Waters, a London Underground station, and the St. Mary's Primary School. The "St. Mary's virus" quickly killed almost 100,000 people in Great Britain, and the populace was gripped by fear. Several "terrorist" scapegoats were tried and executed. Norsefire then promised to bring back security against the new "terrorist threat". Party leaders had bought stock in the pharmaceutical companies that would later mass produce the cure, becoming very rich in the process. Not long after the biological attack and their ascension to power, the public was informed that a cure was miraculously discovered and distributed throughout the country. Adam Sutler (the film version of Adam Susan) was then elected to the new office of High Chancellor.

Norsefire still has the primary government divisions of the graphic novel: the Hand with its agents, the "Fingermen" (the secret police), the Eye (the visual surveillance division), the Ear (the audio surveillance division), the Nose (the police department), and the Mouth (the propaganda division, which runs the BTN), though these anatomical names are rarely used in the film.

The rest of the world is only passingly mentioned, although it is stated in several news reports that at least the United States (referred to as the "former United States," not unlike "the former Soviet Union") has fallen upon desperate times. Early in the movie it is mentioned that the U.S. has become so desperate for medical supplies that it has sent Britain a tremendous amount of grain and tobacco in a bid for aid, and at least by the end of the movie has broken out into its second civil war. It is also unclear whether or not Norsefire controls only England, or whether it also controls the United Kingdom and Ireland, or if the country is still a part of the Commonwealth of Nations. Norsefire's propaganda seems to suggest English or Nordic superiority (Storm Saxon, "England Prevails") as well as the way Eric Finch is mocked by Creedy for having an Irish mother. (Creedy mentions a devastating outbreak of the Norsefire biological weapon in Ireland, though this may have been accidental - i.e. infected citizens randomly crossing the Irish border.)

The name of the government party, Norsefire, is only used passingly in the film. It is stated in the film that Sutler originally came to power in the Conservative Party, but a chart of election results show that Sutler broke away and formed his own party ("Labour", "Conservative" and "Norsefire" are shown). The computer system "Fate", which played an important role in the graphic novel, is also absent. However, there is talk and use of a new computer network called the InterLink throughout the film.

Sutler is also given visual similarities with Oswald Mosley and Adolf Hitler, having a similar hairstyle, figure, moustache and style of military dress Mosley wore (the "blackshirt"). The way Sutler has broken off from the Conservative Party is similar to Oswald Mosley's New Party which developed into the British Union of Fascists. Adam Susan in comparison, however, is extremely different and is more similar in appearance to Benito Mussolini and the archetypal British fascist that existed during the National Front era of the 1980s.

awesome moon!
I added that Dara has an internet business fixing computers - just to leave an option open for their meeting before things get all political and action-y, see if it makes it more interetsing, you can roll with it or not, either way. wink
Plus it gives him an oppertunity to install some monitoring equipment of his own in random people's houses whee

In London, the streets were battered with rain. It was late May, and the stuffy warm spring humidity had finally brought the pouring showers. Curfew had been in order for two hours, so Daara was not surprised to find none of the huddled forms of people shuffling around when he stuck his head out of his window to look at the street below.
It reminded him of a poem his father used to read to him as a kid.

The Winter evening settles down
With smell of steaks in passageways
Six o'clock
The Burnt out ends of smoky days
And now the gusty shower wraps
The grimy scraps
of withered leaves about your feet
And newspapers from vacant lots;
the showers beat
on Broken blinds and chimney pots,
And at the corner of the street
A lonely cab-horse steams and stamps.
And then the lighting of the lamps.

He watched as one man broke the visual silence of the street below - obviously a policeman, one of the more secret guards of the Party. He wrinkled his nose a little in disgust and shut the window, drawing the tatty curtains.
The room was lit by candles - a lazy sanctuary. Most of the work (and the electricity) was done in the 'secret' basement, away from prying eyes. he lived down there more than up here.

The morning comes to consciousness
Of faint stale smells of beer
From the sawdust-trampled street
With all its muddy feet that press
To early coffee-stands.

With the other masquerades
That time resumes,
One thinks of all the hands
that are raising dingy shades
in a thousand furnished rooms.

He wandered over to the slightly grimy and underused kitchen up here and poked his cooking pan of baked beans, stirring them a few times. he plonked in some slices of bread in the toster and ran a hand through the matted mess of his dark-brown hair with a yawn.
Maybe he'd better have some coffee. he had three people's laptops lined up to repair, and the next morning he'd have to go out and make home visits to fix some more computers.
only when they wre done could the real work begin.

You tossed a blanket from the bed,
you lay upon your bac and waited;
You dozed, and watched the night revealing
The thousand sordid images
Of which your soul is constituted;
they flickered against the ceiling.
And when the world came back
And the light crept up between the shutters
And you heard the sparrows in the gutters,
you had such a vision of the street
as the street hardly understands;
sitting along the bed's edge, where
You curled the papers from your hair.
Or clasped the yellow souls of feet
In the palms of both soiled hands.

The toast popped up and he grinned, taing out a colourful plate and droping the toast onto it before lathering it with the beans. he then hurried downstairs, having left the basement's secret enterance open. Inside the bric walls were covered in countless photographs and posters - some obviously illegial-, or sashes of material, with plants propped against the walls. The central 'hub' of the place was a section of beanbags and computer parts strewn across the floor, with numerous desktops and laptops all humming away. He picked up a large set of headphones and put them on, bouncing along to the music through them. Here was his real home - so far safe form the prying eyes and ears of the Party.

His soul stretched tight across the skies
That fade behind a city block
Or trampled by insistent feet
At four and five and six o'clock;
And short square finger stuffing pipes,
And evening newspapers, and eyes
assured of certain certenties,
The conscience of a blackened street
Impatient to assume the world.

He shovelled the beans and toast into his mouth with his fingers and tried to figure out ths virus that was assaulting this woman's computer. Not government made. It entertained him - a cryptic code that was poking fun of the Chancellor, flashing up pornographic picture severy 33rd click.
he loved the internet: sure it was monitored like everthing else, but if you knew how to bypass these...it was freedom. It has a sense of humor.

I am moved by fancies that are curled
Around these images, and cling:
The notion of some infinately gentle
Infinately suffering thing.

Wipe your hand across your mouth, and laugh,
The worlds revolve like ancient womean
Gatehring fuel in vacant lots.

Even in his sancutuary, and not for the first time, Daara missed his parents and felt alone. The poem hung in the air of his memory like the dust of an old room unearthed after decades.

london town centre, its the middle of the day on a quiet monday. the few and far between people are mainly in the church across the street from a hardware store. a police car shows up after an "anonymous" tip that a shifty looking man was seen entering a church near the known whereabouts of a know fugitive.

robert goes to the till of the hardware shop as he sees the policecar pull up, and says to the clerk "why did the investigator cross the road" the clerk shruggs "to make the church blow up". an explosion shakes the store as the church across the road bursts into flames as soon as the police enter the church.

before the clerk knows it an old rag doused in chloroform is thrusted across his nose and is eased to the ground while robert monologues to him, " you see, those investigators were perticularly green. if they had a lick of common they would have realised i am as godless as i am brilliant. i know, blowing up a church is a bit extreame but if they weren't so stupid as too enter the church i would've needed a bloody good distraction and i really needed some of your golden merchandise. sorry about the whole chloroform but to be honest i don't have any money, nothing personal"

as he finishes off his monologue he slips past the massing crowd with fresh supplies and a cheeky grin.

Ruby had been busy patrolling the streets in the heavy rain for anyone breaking curfew and following possible leads. When she had strolled the streets she often glanced up at a few windows with dimmed light glowing through the curtains or blinds. Very once in a while she could catch the shine of someone's eyes peering out at her and her companions as they worked. She knew many people detested them, but this was for their own protection. One day they would come to realize it.

She went home, to her decent sized apartment, shortly after four in the morning. Everything was as she had left it....everything was tidy and in place. Perfect order-except for the damn machine that sat at her desk across from her bed. Strolling to her kitchen she put on a pot of coffee. As it brewed she went about a regular routine of watering her plants, checking her messages, and other small chores. Her grey and white cat, Lewie, weaved in between her legs-eager for an early breakfast.

"I'm getting to you," she replied as she set his dish down on the floor on it's proper little place mat.

Then she went and poured herself a cup of coffee. She savored the aroma before taking the first sip. Looking at the clock she debated on whether or not she should try to get a couple hours of her. She strolled into her bedroom and sat the cup on a coaster upon the desk. Ruby went ahead and set her alarm and laid on top of the blankets. It didn't take long before she nodded off.

However, her slumber was short lived when the alarm went off and once again was readying herself for work. As quickly as possible she straighten the bed, downed another coffee, and cleaned the dishes. She paused only briefly after she locked the door to remind herself that a repairman was coming later in the afternoon the repair her computer.

The day began as any other, but due to her lack of sleep it seemed longer than normal. It was until about mid-day that a call came in about a wanted criminal seem at a church. A small unit was dispatched to investigate which included her.

"So why do you think the guy is at a church?" the officer driving asked.

"Perhaps he wants to repent," Ruby replied with more alertness and focus.

When they arrived they were greeted by paniced citizens and a burning church. One officer who had went in stumbled out with life threatening burns. Ruby practically jumped out of the car to try and aid the man. She dragged him a safe distance away while one officer called in for fire control and medics.

(nice pics)

The afternoon dropped down on Daara before he even realised he had been asleep. He snorted awake and looked around blearily, the strips of daylight filtering through the basement's airvents. He rubbed his eyes with the heel of his hands and looked down at the computers. His main 'hub' computer was on - as it always was- and was currently scanning through the local news on one screen, while surfing the rebellion websites on the other.
The signature design of the 'Democratic Awakening' website caught his eye and he leant forwards to stop the serach on that page. His ears throbbed for the pessure of his headphones on his head all night and he slipped them off - the playlist having long since stopped.
"hm?"
Apparently some guy had bombed a church earlier that morning. The police were on the scene and already attributed it to terrorists.
he wirnkled his nose, wondeirng how many people had died with that one.
"Idiots." The last thing they needed was another witch hunt. He wondered why no-one seemed to have any subtly anymore.
He stood up and stretched his stiff joints, reminding himslef to either drink more coffee next time or go to sodding bed. He smirked and turned off all the computers but the main one, making sure that the coolers worked properly. He then headed upstairs for a well needed shower and mentally figure dout what he was due to do today. A couple of home visits, some people had even given him a key - that was novel.

When he got out of his shower he pulled on a crinkled but clean shirt, shoes and some jeans and gathered his tools incase something really bad had gone wrong with the computer. he made another attempt at brushing his hair and headed to his car, making sure to drive by the church on the route to Ms Williams' house.

Robert swiftly walked to the grimy top floor flat of an old rundown apartment he called home, the apartment is mostly bare accept for some makeshift stills used for making any illicit chemicals he can use, and a broken rocking chair by the window. He wonders around for a while checking the maintenance on the stills and finally settles at his surveillance outpost.

The surveillance post consisted of a Dictaphone a pair of binoculars on a coffee table by the rocking chair, but to him it was a silent place of thought where he could plan his next move, after a few hours of silent surveillance he recorded the report of his recent actions, “strategically the church was a sound choice; I have a clear view to observe the aftermath, it caused enough panic for me to escape with a month’s worth of supplies and I got to see my first glimpse of their response. The problem is that the investigation team isn’t as green as I anticipated, a senior officer was on the scene shortly after leading me to assume some poor sod walked in expecting a some glory on his first day, this investigator could endanger my plan to implicate a mole, note: I need to find a hacker get my file for me so I can pin the attack on them if need be, end report”. The appearance of the second investigative team bothered Robert immensely, but he was sure he followed the MO of a known terrorist group, even to the degree of using an inferior explosive.

Robert then left the comfort of his broken rocking chair to check his traps before he returned to the comfort his chair, after a few hours proceeded to fall asleep while trying of how to encourage the witch hunt within the police for the ‘mole leaking information to the terrorist groups’.

((Thanks-it was easier than typing a description..... sweatdrop ))

In had been a long day. Ruby was exhausted from the incident at the church. Several officers had been killed-a memorial would be held in a few days to honor them. She could only imagine the pain and grief of the family and friends-a couple which had been like brothers to her.

Ruby would have worked through the night to help in the investigation, but the boss had sent her home. Even Detective Finch told her to go home and get some rest after looking at her condintion. Of course, she resisted at first, but then followed they're advice. She was dead tired and the smoke absorbed from her clothes was giving her a headache. On top of that there was the Walker guy coming to fix her computer. She rushed back to her apartment.

Once home she quickly put on another pot of coffee and unclothed-tossing her clothes into the laundry hamper and locking her gun and badge in her nightstand. She wanted to get a quick shower in before the guy arrived. After the shower she threw on a pair jeans and a purple sweater. She pulled her still mildly damp hair into a loose pony-tail as her returned to her kitchen for the coffee. Carefully she settled down on the couch and stared at the photo of her parents on the opposite wall.

She silently prayed for her fallen comrades and their families as well as thanking him for watching over her. Lewie pounced up on the couch and settled on her lap. She set her cup down and stroked him until she dozed off.
