Our story begins in the rabbit warren of streets that the citizens of the Four Kingdoms call Ocran, City of Thieves, when winter has finally released its stubborn grip on the Four Kingdoms. With an inherent dislike and mistrust of the Elfkin and creatures of Faerie, Men and the Dwarfkin have dubbed the Elvish Quarter with this unfortunate name.
Ocran City itself does a roaring trade in spices, horses, jewellery, and weapons. It is on the rebound from an economic slump, and parts of the once beautifully built city have been reduced to crumbling slums. On the borders of one of these areas is the Wreath of Roses, a shady-seeming inn and tavern with equally shady-seeming patrons.

Melani hitched her pack around, settling the leather bag more comfortably on her right hip. Unlike many of the other patrons of the Wreath, she had come on foot. Narrowly avoiding a kick from a roan stallion tied near the door, she ducked under the lintel and into the common room. Smoke stung her eyes, raucous laughter floating through the multi-coloured fog in the room. Holding a hand over her mouth and nose, she padded over to a corner table, dropping down into a hard chair. She set her pack between her feet and eyed the crowd warily.
The elf called the barmaid over with a wave of her hand. The girl, a young pixie with fiery red hair and equally brightly coloured eyes trotted over to her with a forced smile. "I'll take a mug of ale, not the watered down...swill that you serve to these fools." Waving a hand at the mixed clientele in the tavern, she twisted her lips into a sneer of distaste. The pixie blinked at her before nodding and scampering off. Sinking back into her chair, Melani peered through the haze of smoke and magician's fog at the door.

Dalgran, wandered about the town, entering and leaving the taverns once he'd picked a fight in each one. He wadles up to the same alcove he spends every night, and gets ready to sleep. "They went Cheep tonight, i can still see the door stoop acrosss from me." He rolls off the step, and makes himself into the Carvan's Cot, a local Tavern, he smiled as he smelt the finer smell of tobaco and such weeds being smoked. He loved the old rustic smell of the daggers at the hips in the place, always left it for nights he could still walk stright. After a few drinks, he see's a strange woman walk in.
"Hwello M'ady, I be the here...o 'o yer liff... life..." the dwarf pulls his chair up to her table, ignoring the jeers he's getting from some of the other tables.

Victoria looks in her bag while at the edge of the forest realizing that she is out of supplies and needs to get more. She quickly pulls out her map and realizes the City of Thieves is right close.. Once she is out of the forest, it is to late to pick up supplies so Victoria decides to stay at the Inn. As she walked into the inn, she put up the hood on her black cloak as she long, black, wavy hair stuck out of the end, laying lightly down her chest. She walks up in to look for someone to get directions from.

Mel's mismatched eyes regarded the dwarf coolly as he plunked his stocky body down across from her. She didn't respond at first, merely choosing to take a sip from the small mug of ale close at hand. Giving the stocky, dirt-covered dwarf a disinterested once-over, she sighed and set her nearly empty mug down. "And what makes you say that, Dawrfkin? For that matter, why should I trust you? You seem rather...inebriated." With a cold chuckle, she fiddled with the sheathed dagger at her belt. The cool metal of the hilt was a comforting weight in her palm.

The dwarf's words slowly slurred together, becomming an unintelligible mess, and the bartender comes over. the dwarf falls over hitting his head hard on the ground.
"Miss mind carrying the dwarf to his quarters?" The dwarf waved one arm in the air and replied "I an't going with you yellow bellied... pie?" The bartender sighed "Never uses his room. Too bad i would love to charge his coffers more. Well can you help me carry the oaf to his sleeping chambers?"

Mel set down her mug with a sigh, her mismatched eyes holding no resentment for the drunken dwarf. They flicked to a shrouded figure in the doorway as she shook her head. "No, sir. I think your latest patron may be a little lost." Standing, she helped the innkeeper haul the dwarf to his feet, steadying him with a small hand between his shoulders. Her lips curled into a distasteful sneer as she realized that she had only an inch of height on him, maybe less than that. Casting another glance over her shoulder, she continued to steady the dwarf with one hand as she tried to catch the eye of the cloak-shrouded figure in the doorway of the Wreath.

The dwarf woke with a start while being steadied. "You smell of elfkin flesh... And I smell of cheeeap liquor. Find me in the morning and I will present you with an ooofer you cannot refuse." The dwarf shakes her off. The bartender shakes his head whist he lead the dwarf away.
Comming back shortly he sighed "I'm sorry for how my patron acted, he isn't normaly all over women, he normaly finds a fight."

"I've encountered much worse in the few times I've come here, sir." As she sank back into her seat, the fire-haired pixie skidded to a stop next to the innkeeper, carrying another mug of ale and a trencher of roasted vegetables. She set these down with a thud in front of Melani, and the elf began to eat at a slow, measured pace, still watching the shrouded figure. The pixie rocked back and forth on her heels impatiently, looking around the common room as though she was somehow uneasy. The elf raised one slim eyebrow at the girl before sighing and returning her attentions to her meal.

Victoria looks around noticing a variety of creatures but no one she knew. She looked at the girl with the mismatched eyes across the room revealing her pale sking and light green eyes and tucked her hair back into the cloak and went up to the man at the bar. "Is there any rooms open here?"
The bartender replies with a nod while wiping out a mug and then tosses her a key with the number 25 on it.
Victoria decides that if she is staying here she might as well have a drink before going to her room so she sits at an empty table.

Hmm. A human in Ocran? Not something you see every day. Mel positively itched with curiosity as she watched the girl from across the room. It was rare to see a Southlander in the Elvish Quarter; they usually stayed in the eastern parts of Nexus. Thinking that it would be best not to be presumptuous, the elf finished her meal and her drink before settling back in her chair. The barmaid, the same fire-haired haired pixie that had brought the meal cleared away her plate, and the elf hooked a finger into the waitress' sleeve.
"Do you see the newcomer there, alone at her table?" The barmaid nodded. "I wish you to carry a message to her from me. Tell her that I would speak with her, if she would allow it." The pixie nodded before darting off.
The barmaid padded up to the girl's table quietly, her crimson eyes looking anywhere but at the Southlander. "There is someone that wishes to speak with you. The Elvish traveler, over there."

Victoria looked up at the barmaid in shock and nodded her head. "Alright.."
She slowly rose up and walked to the other side of the room looking over the Elvish woman and tried to come up with possible reasons that she could possibly want to talk to her. The final thought that came into her mind was that she was spotted and wondered if she should try to make an escape. She decided she would learn what she really wanted before making any hastey decisions. As Victoria sat down across the table from the Elvish woman, she started to fidget with the sleaves of her cloak and hung her head as her black her slowly flowed out of hood of the cloak. Unsure of what to say, she sat there in an awkward silence.

The elf flicked her gaze over the Southlander before smirking. "Just as I thought. You are the runaway, the wanted girl that I was told to look for." Smiling a cold assassin's smile, Melani pushed a lithograph print across the table to the girl. The picture etched into it was that if a pale man, with sunken eyes and hollow cheeks. "Do you know him? He is the man that sent me to...find you." Her mismatched eyes were as cold as her smile as she watched for any trace of a reaction from Victoria. Signaling the barmaid again, she ordered a glass of wine for herself. When it arrived, she twirled the beaten gold goblet between her thumb and forefinger.

She was right. She wasn't sure if she should attempt to run or to stay and beg to be released. When looking at the picture she looked over the face and the memory of the man in the red cloak holding her flashed into her head. With a deep voice and not looking up, she spoke, "How do you know this man? If I know him is of no importance to you. What are you going to do with me? Lock me up? Try and kill me? Many have tried and failed. You being an elvish woman would only make it easier." Shocked at her own speach she slowly slides down her chair and falls silent again. That wasn't like her; she was usually able to keep her cool. It was something about this man that didn't feel right to her.
