Mawi Mai closed her eyes, purring quietly as she made her way up on the drumming circle platform. A smile was on her face as she wandered up it. She was a mother. She couldn't believe it. and on top of that she was one of the higher ranking female's in the pride. She really couldn't believe it. She looked over at her den, a smile was on her face, she had her mate, her three sons, and her daughter in there. The idea of it made her smile. She was happy very happy, on top of that her mother was getting around and so was her sister.
She moved her neck down some and she let the drum slide down her neck letting it hit the bottom on the ground softly, a smile on her maw. She brushed the top of her drum with her paw. She wasn't on her little 'maternity' leave thing that she was doing. She was here full on, the only thing that she really wanted was her children to be happy too. If her life was going to be hectic but she was up for it.
It was early in the morning but she knew that none of the other pride members would mind waking up to the sound of drumming. She raddled her tail quickly a few times, letting herself get into the mood before she started to beat on her drum. It was slow leading to a faster beat, very energetic, and she twitched her tail in a certain way. It was sounding like a hooved animal that was running from a raffle snake and that was her point. It was something she made up, it was from her drum quest. She easily kept up with the beat with her eyes closed, that same smile on her maw.

Vieras was just stirring when the familiar beat reached his ears. The beat rushed and thudded into him, seeming to pump his blood through his veins with energetic force. He stood, loving the sound he'd grown up knowing. His mother was in a good mood today, he could tell just by the particular beat she'd chosen to play. She'd told him it was from her drum quest.
He raced out of the den, jumping over his stirring siblings and rushing to climb over his father's bulk. The sun blinded him for only a few moments before he found his way into his mother's shadow and wiggled beside her. He could tell from the relaxed look on her face that she wasn't paying too much attention, so he just fleshed out the beat with his little paws and flicked his tail back and force happily.
One day he'd be just like his mother, telling tales with the beauty of music. It seemed that the whole pride came alive with a single beat on one of their many drums, and it excited him every time. The way they gathered and shared stories without ever speaking a word. And the traditions that were passed on were sacred to him. There was so much to learn from the lions and instruments around him, he felt like he'd have to run around all day just to make any progress!
But for now he was barely bigger than the drum his mother carried, and he had much time to go before he started a quest of his own.

Mawi Mai could right away pick up ont eh sound of the footsteps of one of her children. She could easily do that with the ones that she loved. She knew her mate's, her sister's and her children's footsteps by heart. She even knew her mother's. It was something that she easily grew to learn. She concentrated half on the drum, just enough to keep the beat going and listened to the footsteps that were coming. It was one of the twins, she knew that. It was hard for her to tell the difference between the two some times.
She wanted to finish up the beat. She closed her eyes for a moment, a smile growing on her lips as she felt him wander up to his side. Flicking her tail behind her a little fast as it hit the climax of the song. Then it ended, her drumming stopped and the rattle sizzled down. She kept her eyes closed before she reached a paw out pulling the little cub in front of her between her paws, letting him rest his paws on her drum if he wanted to. She didn't let that many other's touch her drum unless she was constantly watching them.
"Morning Vieras." She chuckled softly leaning down and licking his forehead before chuckling. "I'm glad to see you up and wanting to learn." She grinned before looking out at the lands. It made her happy to see her own children so excited to learn about drumming, to learn about the ways of her own pride. Their pride, the one that she wanted her children to be part of for all of their life. She hoped that One of her cubs could take that over her spot one day. Oh how she would love to see that.
She flicked her hair out of her eyes before she nuzzled her cub's mane. She always wondered what her children were going to do when they were older. Who was going to dance, who was going to sing, who was going to do what she loved to do so much? She chuckled before she smiled again. "What brought you down here little one?" She asked quietly. "What makes you so attracted to the music?" She asked quietly, she had asked them questions like that a few times, but she was always so urious of things like that. She wanted to know so much of that these cubs thought about the music, what they thought of the music around them, what did they want to know...

Vieras placed his paws on the taunt material that covered his mother's drum looking at it with wonder. Softly he tapped it, making a gentle sound that echoed in in his ears, something like the breaking of a twig. A smile crawled onto his lips and he looked up at his mother, a proud gleam in his eyes. "Mornin' momma!"
He followed her gaze out to the lands, but found no movement that was particularly interesting to his eyes, so he looked down at the drum that laid silent now. It was even more beautiful up close. Such a simple, yet powerful instrument of music. It filled him with joy just looking at it, though he knew the drum could be slow and sorrowful just as it could be upbeat and energizing.
"I'm here to share myself with others without words. To show the power of music and the stories it tells." He grinned, looking back to her face. "Oh, and to have fun!" He added quickly. That was important to him. Enjoy what he had and not crave anything more; it was a simple sort of motto.

Mawi smiled even wider at her cub's interest in the music around them. She was so full of joy at this litter, as far as she could tell right now, all of them were interested in their pride and also the drums, shakers, voices, and over all music around them. She licked her son's forehead before smiling. "I'm glad to hear that." She chuckled softly before she looked down at her drum. "I can't wait till you little ones come to me wanting to make your own drums for your drum quests." She let out a small sigh then pulled him closer and nipped at his ear. "Don't grow up too fast though!"
She licked the side of his face, teasingly before looking up a smile wide on her maw. "So Vieras, what do you want to do this morning?" She asked curiously before slipping the strap over her neck, being careful not to hit the cub in front of her. She smiled when it rested against her chest where it normally was. "Any ideas? I'm gonna spend the day with you. No annoying brother, or sister to interupt." She winked, obviously still playing around a large smile on her face.

Vieras squirmed away from the warm, wet tongue, sticking out his tongue in disgusted protest. His face quickly turned back to a smile though as he ducked under her raising drum and looked at her. She looked so proud to be wearing her shakers and drum. "I wish I could have a drum now! I could start practicing!"
He sat back on his haunches, thinking. What did he want to do today? There was so much to explore! And he couldn't get in trouble if mother was there. But before he decided on a new place to adventure in, his stomach growled. "Uh... Can we go to the river?" He flicked an ear, looking sheepish as his stomach let out a loud rumble again. A fish would make him feel much better.

Mawi smiled at her son and nuzzled him chuckling softly. "Soon enough, you're a little two small for one right now. But a good drum could be a tree for now, it still makes a sound. And if you find some that are eaten out by termites it really makes a interesting sound!" She smiled thinking about the times that she used to do that for amusement. Her and her sister used to do it a lot. Ah, a lot of good times she had with her sister, and she could see a lot of those things her cubs were also starting to do, it made her smile. She loved it just as much as them learning music.
She nudged her son and nodded. "Of course." She then laughed softly as she heard his stomach. "We can get some breakfast." She stood up nudging him again. "Come on Vieras." She chuckled and started to trot toward the river.

Vieras followed after her at a speedy pace for his little body. He weaved between her paws, giggling and doing a little jig, excited to be spending a day just with her. It was nice not to be with all his siblings. It was nice even to not just be one of the twins.
He raced ahead of her a few feet and turned around, his tail waving behind him. "I'm going to catch a huge fish! I'll catch on for Dad too! That'll make him proud, huh?" He seemed to be bouncing in place, his mane bouncing with him. "How far to the river?"

Mawi Mai slowed down slightly so her son could keep up with her. She remembered what it was like to fall behind trying to keep up with an adult. She giggled remembering those memories, and giggled again at her son's antics. She smiled and licked his forehead before answering his questions. "I'm sure your dad would be more than proud of you." Her heart swelled saying 'your dad' it reminded her of how close her and Aapep had gotten and once more reminded her of how happy she was.
A smile grew on her face. "The only thing is I don't think a fish would last long enough through the day until we head back home. Maybe I'll let you help me catch dinner tomorrow." She winked down at him before she kept walking. "We're almost there little one. No worries."

She had a point. A fish would rot long before they made it back home. What good would a rotten fish be to his father? No, he'd need a new plan to impress his father. But his ears perked at the mention of dinner tomorrow. "That would be awesome!" He'd never caught dinner before!
It didn't take long as the kept walking for him to hear the sound of moving water and his eyes sparkled with curiosity. The river was such a strange thing. It had no true beat, but played it's own music all the same. The rushing of water, the splash of a leaping fish, the buzz of insects, becoming some other creature's lunch.
He tiptoed carefully up to the edge of the water, looking down into the clear water at the sand-colored rocks below. The water wasn't particularly fast, but he wanted to be sure it was safe before he took any chances falling in.
"The water is pretty here." He smiled.

Mawi Mai chuckled softly before she nudged her cub softly and nodded toward him. "It will probably be some fish, maybe some hare, but I can always use help." She licked his forehead before smiling. "You can even catch something just for daddy." She grinned at him before flicking her hair out of her eyes. "I think that he would really like that." She slowly started to wander toward the father herself, lapping up some of the water before looking around and purring softly.
She grinned as she noticed him walking up to the edge of the water. She couldn't help but to grin widely. "It always has." She chuckled softly looking around the river before looking back at him. "You know I used to play in these same exact waters." She chuckled softly before smirking softly and nudging him from behind into the water. Moving away but still getting some of the water on her face. She laughed softly before grinning at him.

His ears perked as he turned to look at her. "Really?" But before he heard another response he tumbled into the water and landed on his bum, making a soft splash as he sat there. The water came up to his mid stomach as he sat and he shivered slightly at the sudden change in temperature, but it almost felt good.
Slowly a grin crept onto his face and he tilted his head back to look up at Mawi, wicked intentions flashing in his eyes. He spun around, sweeping a paw across the water and sending a clear wave in her direction. "Aha!" He giggled, running in a slow circle against the current.
He was probably scaring away all the fish, and the thought crossed his mind that he should stop so that he could actually catch some lunch, but it was much too much fun to try to run upriver with water reaching up to his belly. The fish and his hunger could wait a little longer. "Lookit me!" He shouted gleefully.

Mawi Mai chuckled some as he landed in the water, a smirk grew on her face more before she licked his maw softly. "Yep!" She giggled softly before he turned around and she had water splashed across her face. She laughed before shaking off of her face some. She moved after him pulling him up against her chest and licking the top of his forehead.
She giggled even more before she turned around and started to look around the river, she watched as most of them moved away from her, she ingored it at first, a smile on her face. She would chase them back toward him later, but she was glad that he was having fun.
"I see." She laughed making watching him carefully. "Be careful!" She chirped, her motherly instinct kicking in for the moment before she moved behind him making sure that the current wouldn't take him and if he did she could get him.

It didn't take very much running upstream for his legs to begin to tired, and with a gleeful sound he lifted his paws to let the current sweep him back into Mawi's paws. He wrapped his front legs around her leg and held tight, giggling as the water tickled his skin. He was having such a great time!
He looked up at Mawi as he floated, attached to her paw. "Can you swim, Momma?" She was so tall, he doubted she'd ever need to, but he was curious. Maybe if he tried he could swim too! And then he could show all of his siblings, and they'd ask him to teach them!

Mawi Mai looked down at her son as he clung to her leg. She grinned as she leaned her head down and licked the top of his head as he looked at the water. She smiled before she moved slightly toward the more shallow part of the water. She wanted to make sure that the water wasn't going to go over his face.
"I can swim." She laughed slightly as she looked out at the water. "Me and your aunt Taka used to come out here ALL the time and swam all day long until grandma Isithunzi would come down at sunset and bring us back to the den and we would fall asleep." She laughed slightly going back to her childhood. She missed when she was younger some times but she was so happy these days.
