It was a fine day for simply lazing about in the sand -- however, Lakeisha found herself without the luxury of doing so. Instead, she was out seeking out one of the wandering 'nieces'. Aodhan had decided that she needed to find out where her brother stashed his 'army' which had left Lake going out to make sure the cub didn't get herself bitten by anything in the process.

Yet somehow cubs had a way of just disappearing into thin-air. Magicians at a young age that would eventually just grow out of it and suddenly find themselves lost as to how they'd ever been talented in such a way to begin with.

Alas, that was her own thought at that moment as-was.

Goodness only knew that Aodhan could only wander so far in a direction before she'd get bored and change her mind. Last thing Lake or Kali needed was a lost cub (though it would have prooven to be quite the learning experience upon the girl's return, needless to say). Either way, however, she at least needed to LOCATE the child.

Who actually wasn't as far away from her mother to begin with as Lake was suspecting.

Perhaps it would have been a good day for lazing about, however such a term would have suggested the red lion enjoyed laying in the sand, the quiet twitch of his tail, the sun on his hide. Yet to feel such a thing required one to be capable of such, to possess emotion, Hiashi'ikusa did neither. He reclined on the sands only because it was what at stuck him at that moment, only because at times his body required rest, there was no other reason to do so.

An ear twitched at the sound of shifting sands, red eyes narrowed at the flicker of movement. Soldier, warrior, assassin, his senses alert to all that surrounded him, judging each movement, each step before it happened.

To say that he was intrigued might have been an accurate statement, if he truly were capable of such. And yet something had struck him, a thought, a mood, what it was only he knew. Very well then.

He had risen to his paws, posture calm, relaxed, cold, unreadable but for perhaps the slightest hint of a dark thought in his eyes. He was simply a lion, investigating another, for now.

Lake had learned to ignore the feeling that she was being 'watched' inside of a pride long ago -- There were lions everywhere around there, someone glancing to check who was sniffing around their den or children hiding (sort of) behind a rock to try and make sure they weren't found by whomever was seeking them was common.

Or so she'd have to assume in this case.

She only barely glanced up to check and make sure all 'company' she could see came in the right coat color (it was almost sad that just that little check was all she really needed to feel at ease for the most part), before she continued her miniature search.

Or search for a miniature. She wasn't sure how big this little 'look around' session was in context. Lakeisha wasn't exactly one who had to... 'seek out' things that often, so she wasn't sure if a missing Aodhan was a big seeking job or a small one.

Hmmmm.

She'd have to think on that one. But only after she had a certain cub in her jaws to carry back home (oh wait, she was already there. Lake didn't exactly know this though. Nnnngh.)

Ashi was far from so complacent, searching each creature he saw, ever alert, always judging the other's intentions. Fools. If the regents had had any sense at all they would have slaughtered the safi on the day of the war long ago, not let them live to cause trouble another day, only an idiot would have allowed them to return to the lands as if nothing had ever happened. Such foolishness, it would be the downfall of the firekin.

His tail twitch, gazed settled on the lioness. Her posture, expression, each step on the desert sands, the scent she carried, to the assassin it spoke far more than any word or sound, the subtle telling far more than the obvious.

Though she walked with confidence, he was not impressed, if she had thought to instill such in him with her posture it had no effect. Ashi felt nothing, fearing nothing, the one creature who had once held his respect had lost it long ago. Though aware of his abilities, he was not an arrogant creature, such would have required emotion. He simply felt...nothing.

As he approached the lioness, his steps paused, eyes cold, empty, whatever thoughts lurked in those depths his alone. One paw turned, briefly crossing the lioness' path, though his gaze gave no indication of such an action.

Show me your emotion.

It was only when he purposely crossed her path that Lakeisha actually stopped and looked up at the male, her ears flicking back and the edges of her lips tightening a bit. Hnnnnn.

While she wasn't exactly expressing 'omghai' at his presence, she also knew better than to feel 'entitled' to force him away either -- it was pointless to start fights for no reason inside the pride. With the joining rogues it was a 'test', albeit one she found hard to administer due to the nature of 'no injuring your opponent', though crippling was definitely something she wouldn't have mind doing in some cases.

It just would have been frowned upon -- or so she assumed.

So it was settled that just tapering her desire to frown would suffice before side-stepping her original path (not that he was hindering it at that moment, just part of her felt inclined towards doing it) to keep walking for the time being.

Though now she had to wait and see if there was an 'insistence' on having her attentions (no matter what purpose it was for. Wanting a fight was still wanting her attention).

Restraint in a firekin, a rare trait it seemed among the hot tempers of the blood. There were many in the pride who would have foolishly attacked him for such an action, something so simple, yet so disrespectful. Somewaht disappointing, it was such a reaction he had hoped for. Interesting, perhaps she was more like him and did not care, perhaps she had more important matters on her mind. He would have to pry deeper.

"Pathetic."

His maw had twisted into a sneer, his tone purposefully cold and condescending, as if she were the most disgusting creature he had ever seen.

"Such weak creatures corrupting the sands."

A downward glance shot her way made no doubt of whom he was speaking. Though there was no truth behind the words, they were spoken as such. He wished for that reaction, to see her emotion burst forth like a roaring flame.

Emotion, it made others so easy to manipulate, a weakness he lacked himself. Oh how it intrigued him, to see that fury, how much easier it made it to use against them.

Lake's ears flicked back against her head at his words accompanied by a rumbling noise deep in her chest. No, she wasn't going to hiss and spit at him for his commentary (as long as the mental-mantra keeping her from doing such was in place), but she did have to look back over her shoulder at the male again, her lips stretching tighter as she again tried to keep herself from frowning.

She was a little more unsuccessful this time around, however.

"You speak big words for one who hasn't tested their truth." she answered, a growl lacing the words. Lakeisha was well enough to not just snarl and hiss at the other male though -- she had no reason to become emotionally upset (not to say she wasn't) because an ill-informed nobody was boasting opinions they had no basis for.

His loss (perhaps in more way than one), not hers (or so she thought).

However, keeping her cool at his words wasn't something she was managing easily -- Men had a special way of digging underneath her fur and making her want to claw their faces off.

A twitch of his tail, the slightest hint of satisfaction touching his maw. Ah, there it was, that fury burning within. Oh how she tried to contain it, perhaps admirably so, and yet there it was, he could see it, just waiting to break free. Such a dangerous game he played, he did not fear.

"Perhaps, and yet I see nothing to convince me otherwise."

Had he only known the irony, if he had cared more he may have known of this lioness' relation to his cousin, would she have thought differently had she known? Then again, it wouldn't have mattered except to encourage him to push harder, if only to irritated the bloodthirsty lioness who shared his blood.

He had turned, a step toward the lioness, a wicked smirk twisting his maw. It was an expression meant to taunt, to mock, to entice that emotion to break free. And yet there was something no quite right in that expression, it was empty, lacking the conviction, the sincerity another lion would have shown, he would have to work on that, showing emotion without feeling it.

"I dare you to prove me wrong."

The reaction he got from his attempt to goad her further actually brought a slight smirk of satisfaction to the smaller lioness's maw as she turned to face her verbal-assaulter, head held no higher than needed while she stepped forward undaunted by the male's larger size.

"That's the point." she answered in turn of his 'lack of seeing evidence otherwise', actually seeming rather complimented by it. A strange compliment for a strange female -- Lake appreciated knowing she was being underestimated from first glance. Though a continuation of it might (WOULD REALLY) have pissed her off in battle.

She just had to remember not to allow the opportunity to come.

Ooooh, looked like the 'big tough male' was trying to goad her into a fight -- prove him 'wrong' as it was. Oooooh, so threaaaateninggg. Okay, so the lack of actual... believability in his expression was a little disconcerting, but what was she going to do about it? Tell him to stop making bad faces?

Oh, that'd go over well.

"I could prove you wrong, but that sounds like it wouldn't be fun for you."

"On the contrary, that would be very entertaining."

Paws curled in the sand as he circled the lioness, perhaps only to further size-up his opponent. With each step his posture remained the same, cold, unfeeling. He did not wish to intimidate her, no hint of such in his stance, to do so was the game of a fool, such fools who would lead to their own destruction. What he wish was to anger her, to see the true form of that fire he could see burning beneath.

Ah, but this lioness was far more collected than he had expected, much colder than many of the pride. She was at least, not so much of a fool as the pride leaders, that he would admit.

"Or perhaps you are afraid."

There was no warning, a paw reached out, talons extended, shoving hard against her shoulder, the strike meant to knock her backward. It may have been a dangerous move, though Ashi was confident in his own abilities, he had not seen this lioness in action, she may well be able to overpower him. But it was inconsequential, win or lose, he would have what he wanted.

"Mmm, so you're the type who finds themselves entertained by such?" she answered, her eyes glued to the male in his actions. Trying to read him in his gloating and goading was actually prooving to be quite the task to her female intuition -- it said nothing to her.

Absolutely nothing.

"Mmm, you'd like it if I was intimidated by you?" Lake asked, both eyebrows rising as though this question was something she just had to ask in order to get a glimpse inside of the strange male's head as he circled.

Like a vulture with no desire to feed in any shape or form.

However, all it took was a flash of talons for her to reach up with her own paw to dig her claws into the paw that came in to contact with her shoulder, her ears flattening back against her head with a frown coming across her face.

Grrrrr! ANGRYFACE.

"No, that is not my wish."

Only cowards sought to intimidate, those who wished for respect but had no will to earn it. Intimidation, it was nothing more than a desperate attempt to hide one's weaknesses.

Yes, there it was, such fury, no longer smoldering beneath, but burning brightly for the world to see, talons pricking sharply in his paw. His own eyes narrowed, studying her expression, each line, each crease that furrowed in her anger. He might have thought she was attractive, or at least less irritating than the red lioness he had thought of murdering so many times.

"Where you intimidated, you would not fight me."

No sense in hiding what he wanted.

He had given no growl, no flash of anger, no hint that her talons had been anything more than a swat one would use to shoo away a fly. Cold, unflinching, he simply removed his paw from her grasp as if he had felt nothing, no acknowledgment of the trickle of blood.

"And yet I wonder, could you even defeat a rogue."

The words, his tone, it had been clearly meant to sting, to burn, to fule that fire into a raging inferno, a final taunt.

Ooooh, now that was an attractive statement in Lakeisha's opinion. Not 'picking a fight', but rather 'choosing one' and executing his obtaining of such carefully -- afterall, she hadn't heard rumors of any male of his description (what, a 'Big red male' was a kinda general statement around their lands) randomly starting fights.

It was that fact that allowed her to 'assume' that he was just gauging himself for 'good fights' instead of 'whatever he could get' fights. A compliment to her ears.

However, his words got the necessary reaction from the lioness who growled in answer to his challenge of his abilities, her claws digging into the sand in frustration and her ears flattening back against her head once again. Nnnnnngh.

Stupid, STUPID male.

Naturally, the 'final taunt' got the needed response in her case -- a launching of the 'first move' of battle, throwing herself immediately against him, paws outstretched and claws more than ready to sink into flesh.

Screw 'few scars from the enemy' -- this male was obviously asking for battle and he may just have been worth more scars.

Starting fights, no, it was not a habit, it was simply what had struck him at the time. He had simply seen the lioness and wished to fight her, to see the emotion that he himself lacked, and perhaps, too keep his own abilities strong as well.

Yes, it was what he had wanted, his own postured changing in an instant, muscles tensing, fangs bared, maw split in a snarl, talons unsheathed. How close he had been to simply taking what he wanted, oh but how much more satisfying it was when she willing gave it, beautiful.

He moved into her lunge to cut her momentum, taking the strike to his shoulder and chest, those areas protected by his mane. His body twisted, forepaws raised to slash at her sides and flank, his elbow turned to catch flesh with the prongs of his band as talons sought to tear through hide. It was a quick, cruel strike, no fangs needed just yet. Perhaps there was one trait he shared with his cousin, the items he wore were not just for appearance.

There was cold precision in his movements, his motive unseen. Yes, show me your emotion, your greatest weakness.

Had it been something she wished to invest the thought in (or if she'd even had an inkling of what was going on in his mind), the curiousity from the 'emotionless' male may have been something that would have gotten questioning -- not that she cared when he seemed well trained in his ability to 'fake' emotions as it was.

Someone had taught him the impression very well.

However, her striking out physically had cost her a few nice 'starter' wounds from the male, hissing and retracting her leg away from the object the red male had wrapped around his foreleg and pressing both of her own front legs down into the sand to assist in her shove (which was only from the same starting momentum) against his shoulder and chest (damn he had a lot of fluff.. at least to her he did) before she pulled her body away from him to pace in the sand.

Watching.

Watching.... whether it was for a chance to attack again or waiting for him to do such, she wouldn't betray the chance for either.
