As afraid as Fafnir had once been of finally settling into his role as head of the pride, he was slowly beginning to grow accustomed to it. There were problems to solve, worries to face, and more things to take care of than his previous station had ever had but with Ally at his side he felt like he could do any of that. With Ally, he felt like he could do anything. Ever so slowly, he was growing accustomed to his new title of 'King'. It was weird, he had to admit, to be King to lions that had once been his equals - or even stranger, King to his own parents. Still, he could see the pride shining in their eyes every time they looked at him and he had to admit, that was worth all the trouble that he had to go through.
Ally herself was worth all the trouble he'd had to go through as well.
Having just come from a visit with his mother in a little bit of time he got to steal away from his duties, he found himself seeking out his mate. Being the sort of lioness that she was, Malkia had been telling him all about the things she'd seen or heard, and he found himself wondering if the Lord and Lady positions doubled for spies. He swore, nothing got past that female.
"Ally?" he called out, shaking his mane from his pale eyes as he neared the entrance to their den.

Alcmene had been having a lazy day, there wasn't much needing to be done at the moment so she was enjoying herself. Besides, she was quite comfortable in the shade when it was so sunny. Her day had not been completely carefree, but it was a simple task she had tended to and she'd long been back, waiting for just the footsteps and voice that called to her.
She lifted herself up and stepped out of the den, a smile on her face.
"Welcome home," she greeted him, "Where have you been?"

A smile split his face as he saw his mate emerge from their den, following the star-like markings along her pelt as they became visible in the daylight. Sometimes it was still hard to take it all in and believe that this was his new life, some days just simply felt like a dream to him, even now.
"I was actually talking with mum," he said with a small laugh, shifting his paws a bit as he moved forward to brush his mug against her neck in a gentle nuzzle. "Which is always tiring, since she seems to know more about what's going on in the pride than I do." He took a small step backwards, letting his pale gaze find her own, even as his mane fell down slightly into his field of vision. "I swear, that lioness must have five pairs of eyes and at least three sets of ears."
He offered her a pleasant smile again before tilting his head at her, sending his mane flopping to the side as he did so. "I suppose there must be a lack of dire situations today if you've found a few minutes to steal for yourself?"

"I'd guess having so many family members to talk to would help with keeping up," Ally offered with a laugh, unable to help but imagine some 10-eyed, 6-eared version of Malkia. She nuzzled gently against him in return and settled into a comfortable seated position.
"Of course," she responded brightly, "We could get away with doing quite little, we can afford a bit of time to just relax. I haven't just been laying around all day, though. I went to talk to Mitsuki." A hint, but there were other things going on that might hide the point. Mitsuki herself was looking to have cubs, Alcmene had approved the decision herself, she also was the only priest with an apprentice that would soon take on the position- which also had some of the queen's personal interest as the apprentice was a friend of hers. Still..

"Well, I guess that's true," he said with a vague tilt of his head, considering just how much his mother must learn from the bits and pieces of information she learned from her children alone. There were so many of them compared to a lot of the families in the pride.
"I'm glad to know that," a small grin took place upon his maw as she admitted that they could afford a little bit of time to relax. He took that as permission to sit down, curling his tail around his paws as he relaxed and turned his gaze up to her instead. He hadn't really expected her to sit around all day, as that wasn't particularly characteristic of Ally, but even when she told him what she'd been up to he, he wasn't able to pick up on her hint.
"Oh, Mitsuki? What did you have to talk to her about?" he asked casually, wondering if there was some matter concerning Mitsuki that he needed to be aware of. He suspected so, if Ally was mentioning it, otherwise she probably would have kept it to herself. Being as slow as he was, he couldn't have taken the first guess at what Ally really had to tell him.

Ally considered her actions carefully, wondering if she should remain standing or sit with him. She wasn't exactly sure how obvious the situation was, but if Mitsuki could tell then perhaps it was more than she knew. She didn't know if sitting or standing would show it off more, though, so she decided to go with the more comfortable and just sit down.
"A couple things, mostly small talk," she said, not sure she should go into the smaller things like Ukene and Mitsuki's own decision to have cubs, "But that's not all-- you really can't guess?" She was surprised she could get so far into the conversation, he had to realize. They were planning, though perhaps not trying.. still!

His eyes followed her as she sat down, though as she did so he simply smiled affectionately and leaned over to nudge her cheek with his nose. He really could be quite oblivious when he wanted.
Yet, when she made her exclamation at him, he realized there was something that she wanted him to figure out that he obviously must be missing. It had to be quite obvious if she was so surprised at him for not figuring it out. Thus, he sat back and furrowed his brows as he stared at her, tail thwapping at the dirt beside him. What significance did a talk with Mitsuki have? She was a priestess, and they did all sorts of things. Wasn't she a specific sort of priestess though?
The change in his facial expression was probably near comical. He went from a confused, thoughtful expression to a wide-eyed stare. His mouth opened once, though he couldn't find the words to form. He tried again, this time with a little more success, although they were still quiet. "Ally, did you go talk to her because.. are we having cubs?" It made sense, but he wouldn't believe it until she confirmed it.

There wasn't much left for Ally to do, she watched his eyes, nudging back against him affectionately when he nudged her and watching as the little wheels in his mind turned. It was funny to watch him try to sort through to the secret, by the time he figured it out she was already beaming. Her head tilted, her smile twitched as she held back a laugh and she waited for him to produce the words, the question.
"Yes," she answered simply, managing to hold in her excitement and her anxiety, at least until he really reacted to what she was saying. Her conversation with Mitsuki had not been too long, she had asked for the lioness' confirmation, as Ally was unsure herself and still shy of asking her mother, and then had a brief conversation about the timing. It was all good news.

His mouth remained slack-jawed for a few moments, his eyes glued to her as that one word rang over and over through his ears. Yes, yes, yes. They were having cubs. Tiny little Fafnirs and Allys. As the thoughts finally settled in, his slack jaw finally closed and his mouth split into a wide smile. He was still struggling for words when he leaned forward to butt his forehead gently against hers, trying to show her any reaction he could while he fought the overwhelming sense of joy and pride swelling up in him at that moment.
"That's wonderful, absolutely wonderful, I don't even know how to.. tell you." His words were soft, his eyes half lidded as he leaned his forehead into hers. He sat up slightly, just enough so that he could open his eyes to look into hers, all the joy he was feeling clearly written into those two pale pools. "Do you know how long? Is there anything we're supposed to do? Should you be resting more? Do I need to do more of the pride stuff?" It only took a moment, but then the string of questions bubbled out as his worrying took over, one question barely finished before the next began.

Ally laughed when finally Fafnir really reacted, nuzzling against him happily when he butted his head against hers. That was definitely a good reaction, and better than immediately jumping into the concerns about how to be a parent-- something Ally was already wondering about but, as she felt she ought to, kept it to herself.
"I do know about how long, that's part of what Mitsuki and I discussed," she answered, giggling at the speed and progression of his questions, "We have until about the third full moon from now, Mitsuki said we timed it rather well." Or so they were guessing from the current state of things. There was always a bit of wiggle room, but there was a pretty good chance their cubs would be more on the full moon.

"That's not long at all," he said slowly, his questions winding down and his mind beginning to actually take the time to think over how much their life was about to change. He was going to need a lot of advice on how to handle this - after all, he really wasn't the best with big life changes. "But at least we timed it well, right? Not that we're in a rush or anything, but.." he trailed off, laughing at his rambling.
He simply offered her another smile and moved himself to lay next to her, curling his body up against her own despite the heat of day. "We'll need to tell our parents - mom will be thrilled."

"Well, that's normal," she responded with a small laugh when his voice slowed down while commenting on how much time they had, her smile widening when he trailed off and laughed. He was seeming more and more nervous.
"I know what you mean, we're not in any rush but," Ally paused, almost afraid to voice the concern, "I'd be a little anxious if we had to deal with a situation like Njiru and.. well, you know." She was still reluctant to discuss her father, but he was part of the concern. She couldn't understand how her grandparents could have dealt with their eldest son being so resentful- especially since whatever they did do hadn't worked.
It was another reason her face fell a little when he mentioned telling their parents. She certainly didn't feel she had much support from her own parents anymore, she didn't blame her mother but she was still awkward to be around. And she did blame her father and just liked to pretend he didn't exist if she could help it. But she pushed through it and smiled again.
"I think so," she agreed, "Shall we go find your parents now? Don't suppose they'd be too busy, do you?"

He nodded slowly as she voiced her concern over all the family problems. It was unfortunate at times, the way the great lion decided to do things. There was little they could do about it though except meet each obstacle head on. "I know you would, darling, but if that is what we were intended to endure, we'd have to. Not every family can be perfect." A sad frown formed on his face as he looked over to her. "Especially those wrapped up in politics."
"Busy?" his frown faded and was replaced by a laugh at this. "Those two are never busy with anything but gossiping, you know that as well as I do." He shook his head and pushed himself up slowly to a sitting position, from where he had been laying down before, and looked over at her as if waiting for her to stand up first. "Besides, mom, at least, wasn't busy when I was talking with her earlier." Though, the fact that she chose his parents to speak to first was a little worrying, especially when she made no mention of her father. Sure, he was a slave, and she was still mad with him, but he was her father none-the-less.

"You're right, I know you're right," Ally said calmly, smiling sheepishly at the reminders. It wasn't that she didn't accept whatever was going to come there way, wouldn't be able to deal with it.. she could just hope that things would not get too complicated. She knew they would do their best to teach their cubs different if they did happen to miss the mark for high class, but part of her felt guilty imagining her grandparents had done something wrong to make Njiru worse.
"Of course, but you just never know," she said, her voice cheering up a bit, "Shall we go find them, then?"

Glad that he had cheered her up over the thoughts of their future cubs, and all the things that might go wrong, he finally pushed himself to his feet and turned in the direction he knew his parents' den to be.
"Yes," he said with a small laugh, feeling the nerves beginning to rumble around in his gut at the simple prospect of telling his parents they were going to have grandcubs. "Let's go find them," leaning over, he nipped her shoulder before starting out in that direction. He really had no idea quite what to expect.
