Well after a fairly pleasing result against Uruguay at Montevideo this morning, the Socceroos are in top form to take on the South Americans at home at Telstra Stadium. Guus Hiddink has yet to prove himself worthy of his reputation as we need a 2 goal win over Uruguay to qualify for the illustrious World Cup.
Who is the key for Australia? Kewell? Bresciano? Viduka? These are all men who could see us on our way to Germany next year. Will we get there? Will Australia reach it's second World Cup in history? We have possibly the best team we have had since that time, we have the men but can we break down the Uruguay defence.
It is our destiny to qualify for the '06 World Cup, we will thump Uruguay into the ground with the likes of Cahill, Aloisi and Emerton only to name a few. We have it in us to get the job done, but will the Uruguayan defence prove too hardy to break down?
What is your opinion on the matter at hand? Does Australia have the momentum, and the quality to break down the toughest defence in the world?
Explain.

How many times do I have to say it? The MAIN reason we're going well is because John Saffran got the bloody curse lifted!!! Even with an awesome team and whatever, if that curse would still hanging around we'd be plagued with injuries and bad luck. I TELLS YEEEE!
Just goes to show, never cross a witch doctor.

They're awesome and shall indeed reign havoc in the World Cup. This is the first year I even started to show an interest in Football, all the good things are happening this year too, awesome for me. That's nice that Johnny lifted the curse but I'll believe it when I see it. We should win by all rights, and now Uruguay are going to play an attacking game in Sydney, we are going to strike the ******** down. They are heavily reliant on defence, the bastards are just cocky, thinking they can just run us over, well we'll just see who'll qualify, they can get ******** booed on their way into Sydney.

I don't think we'll beat them. We always struggle against South American teams, though it is advantageous for us that the second leg is at home because we know how many goals we need to score against them to win. I think we can overturn a 1-0 but I don't think we will I still don't think our defence is capable of shutting down Recoba who was superb in the second half and anytime it's a dead ball situation. Forlan is a damn good player also, though he may not be 100% going into the 2nd game after he limped off during the first. They also get Carini back who's a good keeper DNA_Guru That's nice that Johnny lifted the curse but I'll believe it when I see it. I think Uruguay will more likely sit back and defend. I think they'll attack more on the counter hoping to preserve their advantage. They have the 1-0 lead and they're playing away from home. Unless Australia get the early goal, I think they'll most likely just stay back. And I think they'll play a bit dirty also, not minding if they get carded or sent off, so long as they walk away from the game with the result they want

Well that's probable. But on Toyota World Sport it was said that Uruguay were going to go in with an attacking frame of mind. I don't think Recoba is the only man who can upset it for us, there's still Morales nad the other striker who's name escapes me at the moment. If we don't give them dead ball situations then we can win it. All we have to do is defend well without giving too much away, also we have to make sure the refs won't fall for any deliberate falls on behalf of Uruguay. I really think Chipperfield was unlucky getting carded, but such is life. Carini played int he first leg, if they get Viera back it might be a different story, but I think either way we're still going to have as much chance against either of them.
I just find it disgusting that the Uruguayans will probably use dirty tactics to trip us up. I don't think we needed Ronaldo to tell us that.

Up until now they've had to move out of the country because our NSL was useless to tell the truth, it wasn't a good comp and it wasn't challenging for those top talents. Now that the A-League has been established we are going to have more players staying because we are getting international signings ourselves. It's a competitive competition and it's a step in the right direction fror Australian football. I really can't see what the capitalists can do what they haven't already done. All but one of our players in the squad at the moment is playing overseas, so obviously we have players of calibre. We now have possibly one of the most successful coaches in football history, we've done all we can. It's now up to the players to perform and enter the World Cup. If not this time, then almost certainly next time as we enter a new era of Australian football history. The A-League will be fully functional and we will be playing against the Asian nations for qualification, and maybe finally getting some proper game time against competitive nations. I stand by my comment on Uruguay's defence. Even Argentina, the 3rd ranked country in the world could not break their defence in the last of the South American qualifiers, They have a miserly defence and will not give away chances easily. And please, do not double post, the edit button is their for a ******** reason.

I don't think you're seeing the big picture here. Within a few years we will be on par with the Japanese league at least, and that's a big step forward. If the FFA plays it's cards right, one day we might have something to rival the Dutch League or something similar. Not quite the FA Premiership but a springboard for those players wanting to get into the Serie A and the Primera. Australia has alot of talent, we just have to let the A-League develop to produce those players, and if we get to that calibre I spoke of, then we will have an international team worthy of the greats. These kids you speak of are pessimists then. It is possible to start a successful career from Australia. I'll just use Jason Culina as an example. He played for the NSL a few years before a Dutch scout caught him out and he was on his way to Roda JC, then moved onto FC Twente, and finally to the giants of Dutch football PSV Eindhoven. Here is a man who has risen from the ranks of the NSL to be ina team that has the potential to take home an ECC. Mark Viduka is another who played in the NSL at a young age until he was scouted out to go to Leeds United, and now he plays for Middlesbrough. He has had a successful career with the springboard of an even older system that was far worse than the A-League we have today. I guess the ultimate thing the League wants to achieve is something on par with the major European leagues like the FA, that way we keep the majority of our talent. That is definitely a long way off, but the A-League will provide such a boost for young talent to push through and maintain an interest in football. They will have a goal, pardon the pun, to shoot for in their future. Playing for the Roar or Glory, it will motivate younger people to try and strive for that higher plateau of the A-League and we will have more quality players coming out of this country.
You have the ability to quote two things in one post even without the edit button, there's no need to use two posts. And I'm sorry it is my job to moderate this guild, I can only do my job in that capacity. I'm sorry for the swearing as it has been a constant annoyance of mine in this guild.
