The Friend In Your Drink That Left Unexpectedly Soon
The glass rests in your hand,
Filled to the brim with drink.
Look down into your glass,
And see your shimmering image
Stare blankly at you back.
A quite familiar face,
One you saw just yesterday in the bathroom.
Lift the cup to your face,
And feel the drink grace by your lips,
Long before you even taste it.
It passes smoothly between your teeth,
Feel the taste dance with finesse
Upon your waiting tongue.
Slowly remove it from your mouth,
And look down for a second time.
Where did your run off to?
No longer do you stare back,
But instead only a few glistening drops
Of forgotten drink in their own discrete spots
Scattered upon the bottom of the glass,
Winking under the sixty five watt bulb
Which makes a vexing rattling noise you cannot explain.
These drops were too small to support your image,
So now you sit alone in your living room.
