It had been a couple of days since Talutah found the demon pride. It was wonderful, and also just a bit strange, being around so many other like her. Demons, like herself. At first she had gotten a bit worried because so many of them seemed, well, insane. While she was by no means a soft soul, she hadn't met anyone so thirsty for blood and pain.

However after the first day that stopped bothering her. She wasn't that different from them. Though while she herself loved blood and the feeling of it staining her paws, she was never one to torture things. Well, unless she was extremely angry. Only her sister managed to get her that pissed off. The dark lioness growled just at the thought of her. God, she hated that poor excuse for a lion.

Talutah shook her head, banishing all thoughts of her sister away. She needn't worry about her anymore. Now she was with her own and it was better than anything she had ever imagined. With a content smile she laid herself on a rock that was still warm with the heat of sun and lazily watched the sun slowly disappear behind the horizon.

User Image The adolescent stood still on his father's lands, watching the sun sink towards the horizon, and feeling its light and warmth disappear from his coat. He knew the demons would become more active in the darkness. Their likenesses and presence mysteries to their targets and prey. But that didn't bother him much anymore. He'd moved past his cubhood of hiding in thorny bushes with his siblings, scraping off as much skin as fur, but for the most part it was safe, if not foolish for staining his nest with his blood. It lured the demons, but he was left alone. Yet now he could stand among them. Still a trainee, but an adolescent. And the Aran'shale's son. That didn't grant him invincibility, but it certainly dissuaded other lions' approaches. And if it didn't, usually his distant, brooding personality would.

Slowly his red eyes scanned the land stretched out before him. A strange, dark mass protruded from a rock. A lion? He tilted his head and caught a whiff of the air. Somehow, they just smelled new. But that didn't mean this stranger didn't smell like blood. And with their relaxed position on the rock, they must have been a new demon of the pride. He ran through this thought process without moving, but as time passed and so did the sun, he shrugged and made an approach, until he was standing only a few feet off. After all, it was wiser to have some distance to react when dealing with a demon.

Talutah stirred when she noticed movement with the corner of her eye, but did not move, thinking the other would pass her by. But instead they stopped a few feet away from her. Her tail flicked as she turned her head and looked at the newcomer with curious eyes. Yet another pride member she had not met before or even seen - his purple coat stood out and she would have remembered catching a glimpse of it.

"Hello." Her smooth voice finally broke the silence. A small smile played on her lips like always. That smile would make the neck-fur of lesser beings stand, but she had found it didn't have nearly the same effect on demons. They were, after all, the same kind of creature. "My name is Talutah." She stared at the male inquiringly.

Phlegyas answered her gaze with a cool, calculating one, more like that of the Sparda faction from which he was not of descent. The Tarenai nodded, taking in the information. "Talutah. Nice to meet you, I'm Phlegyas." Only a demon could say it was nice to meet a demon, he mused. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he had a wicked idea... This was a new lioness, right? So she didn't know of his father or his rank. Not many lions really cared, after all, there were plenty of children of Iar and Verge to not be hurt if one or two died, but he made up his mind to leave out that information.

A slight grin crossed his face at the thought, and it gave him an eerie look, until her realized it and knew to turn it down a little. "So, Talutah, are you new to these lands? I haven't seen you around before," Phlegyas said, cocking his head slightly for effect. He sat down a distance away from her, more than ready to carry on a lengthy conversation.

Talutah's smile turned slightly more welcoming. "Nice to meet you too, Phlegyas." When she saw him getting comfortable for conversation she shifted her body so that she wouldn't have to crane her neck to look at him. Comfortable again and now facing him she nodded in reply to his question, silently wondering what he was grinning about. He better not be up to something. She wasn't in the mood for mind games or anything of the kind.

"Yes I am." But that certainly didn't mean that she needed to be taught how the pride worked. Her mentor had once been a part of the original pride and she had learned a lot about his former home. "I'm the newest Tirma'eth. I guess that means I'm here to protect you. As well as others." That wouldn't be necessary soon tough, she mused as she looked him over. He was almost completely grown.

Phlegyas smiled and nodded, thinking he had already outgrown protection, personally at least. He pursed his lips before speaking...

"I hope to be a Quateth. Or maybe even a Ra'alm. I haven't quite decided yet. Nor do I know what my siblings are going to be. It's really a tough choice, that is, finding your niche in a new pride." He sighed, and rolled his head on his shoulders, as though thinking further. His eyes followed his head and they came to rest again on Talutah.

"What do you think, hmm?" His smile returned fully, and he was inspired by the fun he was having with his new friend. However, it also worried him the ease at which lying came naturally, but a further, deeper part of him didn't quite care at all.

Her eyebrows rose up and her expression showed approval. "I hope to make Quatethe one day myself." Her current position was just something she had settled for temporarily. "Does it really matter what your siblings will choose? That shouldn't affect your choice." Talutah wasn't very experienced in the field of sibling relations. She and her twin had been on the worst of terms most of their lives and her only other sibling had been stolen away when they were young. So much time had passed since she had seen either of them that it was as if it was nothing but a dream.

Steering her thoughts away, Talutah returned her gaze to the young male. "It is a tough decision but in time your path will reveal itself. No need for hasty decisions." He was certainly an interesting one. He could make for a good friend. Or at least someone to have a chat with every now and then.

Phlegyas shrugged. "I suppose it doesn't matter what they'll become, no." He substituted saying something about seeing his future with his wretched curse of a gift with a smile, and a nod. "I'm sure I'll be all the more close when I return from my name quest." It would inevitably be soon, if the incessant nagging headache was any indication. However, he'd never had much of a demon voice inside.

He tilted his head. "Have you thought about going on yours yet?" Of course, she probably hadn't. She was awfully new to the pride. However, some demons joined with a very keen awareness of that other consciousness. Making an assumption on her cordial behavior, he still guessed she was a member of the former. The undertaking of a name quest was no small feat, and he knew personally, it would probably take him a while.

Especially if he took extra time to try and find the one who dubbed him Phlegyas, his mother, the one who abandoned him to the demons. Even as he thought of the intense scorn he held for the goddess, his expression didn't change outwardly. He still looked like an interested young adolescent acquainting himself with fellow members of his pride.

"Ah, the quest for one's true name." It was true that she was well aware there was something inside of her. That presence was mostly quiet, napping at in the back of her mind until it was needed. But now she felt it lift it's head, ears perked at Phlegyas' words. Talutah inclined her head to the side with a thoughtful expression. "Actually, I haven't." She knew she would have to, but since her arrival in the pride the thought hadn't crossed her mind at all.

She made a mental not to speak with Iartuupe about her own quest. It was ridiculous for a grown lioness not to know her true name. She didn't know what the ritual consisted of exactly, but from the way the lion before her spoke about it she gathered it was not a task to be taken lightly. "But you are thinking of going on your own soon?" He was the right age after all. And with an unusually keen mind. Looking into his eyes, Talutah got the feeling he could become quite dangerous one day. If he wasn't already.

The prince watched her as she in a sense watched herself. It was strange for him to see a fellow demon in this sort of light. And maybe she was further along in her quest than he thought. Phlegyas rolled his shoulders in a shrug and looked down at the stones lying next to his feet. "I suppose I may. Father probably expects it to happen soon." He kept his eyes low, hoping she'd not ask of his sire, but if she did, he was already cooking up a lie. He bent and contorted his neck, letting a sick crack break the air, and he shuddered before smiling in her direction. (He thought nothing of the eerie image that it may give off)

With another sigh, he looked off, the corners of his mouth still faintly upturned and he stared without really seeing. "I think I intend to wander outside of the pride, too," he said, in an almost wistful tone. But he quickly added, snapping back with a serious expression to face Talutah "Though I know I'll be back." Especially if his name quest was a success. He wouldn't leave himself outside of the lands as a danger to others. He could turn into a demon, but he would still be Phlegyas.

Talutah nodded, her thoughts running to her missing mother when he mentioned his father. "If you feel ready for it, I don't see why you shouldn't." She didn't press the matter any further. The way he talked about his father and his mannerisms told her that they probably weren't on the fondest of terms. It peaked her interest, there was some story there, but she didn't want to drive the young male away by being nosy. And there were always other way to get to the truth. It would be a interesting exercise for her skills.

Her eyes narrowed just a fraction as he cracked his neck, her lips thinned but other than that nothing else betrayed her discomfort at the male's actions. She looked away for a moment, as if something in the distance had drawn her attention, before she replied. "There are many things to be learned out there. But you are right in your intention to return." She smiled slightly, her eyes almost glowing in the fading daylight. "We demons will never fit in with the rest of them." Not that she hadn't tried, but they could never understand what it was to carry such an entity inside. For the most part, the ordinaries considered her crazy.

It was just... This nagging headache. Some sound in the back of his head that was driving him to go seek his true name. So yeah, he guessed he was ready to go soon. His skin shuddered a little, mother's bloody paw print shaking on his skin. He was reminded of his brief time outside of the pride. That was where he'd had his first seer vision, and his last, to this day. He supposed Iar was his first lesson, having been spirited away to the pride lands.

But this time, he'd hope to learn something more. Interactions with non-demons were more than welcome, and hopefully though they were different in dozens of ways, he'd also figure how to control the demon within. Maybe, though, he could find his mother, and his sisters. Phlegyas kept the growl from ripping through his chest, but she was right. He would never fit in, in all of the hundreds of thousands of square miles, there would only be one patch where he could stay.

His ears pinned back against his head, and he looked at Talutah, here she was, speaking from experience, and for some reason, that worried him.

Talutah eyed him, tilting her head to the side. He hadn't liked her last statement. She sighed and said: "I suppose not all of us are happy to be here." She hadn't thought about that, ever. Why wouldn't he want to be with his own? Maybe he wanted to be normal, tough she couldn't imagine why anyone would want to be less than what they are. But maybe that's why she hadn't fit in, she had tried to make her sister accept her for what she was, when, maybe, she should have hidden it. Her lip curled slightly in distaste at her own silly thinking. No, never.

Suddenly feeling restless Talutah got up and hopped down from her perch. "Why don't we take a walk, hm?" She offered as she approached, though she still kept at a distance from him. "I am new to this place after all, maybe you can show me around. Who knows, it could cheer you up?" She added with a small smile. He seemed to be getting more and more depressed and she didn't like that. It seemed pushy, asking him to show her around like that. She was almost certain he would refuse, but it didn't hurt to ask. She wanted to stretch her muscles and wandering around on her own was boring.

Phlegyas shrugged. His brother and a couple of his sisters were probably thrilled. Sometimes he felt pigeon-holed into the pride. As though Iar had made him a demon, and now he was stuck, not wanting to be a danger to others, especially when the demon emerged. There was just no denying what he'd become, and he blamed it all on his father, though couldn't he have just run away like Giza and Shilo had done? To himself, he shook his head. No... He'd had to protect Shilo while she was still there, and he felt responsible for his other siblings, too, even if they'd adopted the demon-life far easier than he had.

Looking at her with unintentionally sad-eyes, he nodded, and cast them back down to the earth. "Sure, I know my way around." He started off in the direction of the dens, figuring it was the most important place for a new member to know.

Following him swiftly, the dark lioness wondered what to say next. She wondered what made him so uneasy about being in this pride. She could sense the demon in him, her own dark creature sending a purred greeting to his. By all accounts, he should be feeling quite at home here. Yet he didn't. Could it be that he wasn't born in the pride? That he knew another life before being bought here? That would explain the sorrow she saw in his eyes. She even considered the possibility that he might scared of his darker half on some level.

"Phlegyas," she started tentatively, "did you know that the original Aikanaro'hini were destroyed? A long time ago. Then king Iartuupe rebuilt it." Iar was one of the crazier ones, she mused. A truly insane individual. "When I was a cub a dark lion joined the group my family and I were travelling with. His name was Malakai and he was once a part of the original pride. But he left." She looked him with a small smile. "I don't know why tough, he certainly had a demon. I could sense it once he taught me how to connect with my own demon. But he never hurt anyone, not unless it was in self defence anyway. A true dark knight of Sparda." Sadness filled her eyes for a moment as she remembered how upset he had been that she ran off to join the pride he had left.

She eyed the younger lion, wondering if he got the moral of the story. And if he did, if he believed her. Demons weren't necessarily evil. Some were noble even, like her master.
