Another day on patrol, she couldn't figure out quite what was going on with her apprentice lately, only hearing about the fight with Ursa after the fact, but life moved on. On patrol again, this time to see that the guards were keeping to their rotas and knew that there'd soon be new numbers among their ranks she was just a bit preoccupied. Between Azar'bijan and Ursa's strange behavior alike it had her wondering. She hadn't really gone through that phase in her youth, never really met any guys worth fighting with either, but here amonst the children of the dunes and sun there were plenty. Would she eventually find someone that she could spar with for the rest of her natural days?
"Hell, I'd settle for someone I could spar with every other week." She muttered, peering into the open lands beyond their borders as she took a break.
Yensid moved with uncertainty at first he had trained and stressed his body trying to get used to the heat and the ever shifting earth. He still felt mildly ashamed of having been defeated by Uuo, but consoled himself with knowing that she was after all the Captain of the Guard and he wanted to become a guard so it was fitting that he should have tasted defeat at her paws. Today he was well rested, well fed, and eager to find the sassy female again. He inhaled deeply and slowly calmed himself, he was close again to the claimed territory of the firekin.
Slowly his yellow eyes scanned the terrain he didn't want a duel with just anyone, he wanted a re-match with her. It was a matter of pride to want to prove to her that he would be a worthy guard. With a grin he spotted her familiar shape and color in the distance and approached with easy strides his posture slowly turned defensive and he crouched slightly before calling out a greeting from a few paces away.
"Uuo I've come for a re-match!" His tone was less challenging and more humorous remembering how the female had enjoyed baiting him before, this time he wouldn't let her sharp tongue distract him. Hopefully...
Her ears pricked, her paws stopping while maintaining poised balance on the shifting ground. Certain that she recognized the voice, Uuo smirked, eyes now seeking out the familiar owner.
"Back again so soon? I'm a little impressed. That's pretty brave to come seeking me out for a second butt kicking."
Only a little, though. For one, she knew the tenacity of outsiders having been one herself, earning her stripes, so to speak, by fighting in the rebellion. Two, she had expected him to return sometime, and three, he'd have to prove he was worth of that mild awe before she'd admit he truly deserved it.
She spotted him then, not hard at all, all this pale golden sand, the Firekin stood out brightly against it and he was no exception with his own red coat. Uuo stood straight and tall, finding them to be on level ground this time. "Sid or something, wasn't it?" She teased, remembering his name fully well.
Yensid chuckled at her words where most might have lashed out, he knew she wasn't being insulting she had her own strange charm. He shook his head and grinned "I think I've managed to figure out your terrain and this time I won't be such an easy opponent." He smirked crouching lower still his tail flicking out while his eyes remained focused on the female before him.
"Yensid..." He corrected with a wry smile. "You'll remember after today." His eyes shone with amusement even as his muscles rippled under his fur eager for action. "I remember the rules for our duel..." He added after a moment his stomach clenched in anticipation he couldn't let her defeat him again, it was a matter of male pride and all that nonsense.
"If that's what you want..." Uuo smirked, charging then with a quiet roar. It didn't call for help, it didn't warn of danger, it was simply the roar of someone enjoying the rush of the fight. She came at Yensid swinging, throwing her full weight forward into the attack as she lunged paw speeding towards any part of him that she could reach.

He was ready for her and the roar was a dead giveaway, this time his paws firmly grasped the sandy ground and he lunged to the side away from her attack. His back paws left claw trails along the ground as he spun himself quickly to try and deliver her a swift thump in the ribs. He was focused on their little battle yet he couldn't help but perk his ears waiting for one of her barbed comments. Her feedback had kept him going along with his stubborn desire to prove himself.
His movements were clearly less focused on using his brute strength and much more tuned into keeping his body moving. He knew his large frame made an easy target for the viper quick female and this time he knew to defend himself better.

Her growl cut short as the roar faded and her paw connected with nothing but empty air. Seconds later pain bloomed through her side as he scored a hit to her ribs, catching her by surprise. Not often did she get taken off guard AND miss, especially not at the start of a fight! As Uuo staggered back a few steps to put a safe bit of space between them she realized something. He was moving with more confidence, and--
"Finally got the hang of carrying yourself on the sand huh?" She smirked dryly. He had likely trained and practiced good and hard for that. Well, good, that meant he took away something from his loss last time other than defeat! He had learned. "Let's just see if you can keep it up."
She circled, or appeared to, but without warning and from an angle that seemed to provide no advantage whatsoever she lunged. She aimed well and threw her body's weight into a side swiping tackle, aiming to bodily shove him to the sand and score her next hit from there.

Yensid would have grinned and savored his victory hit if he had a chance, instead he found himself thrown into the sand that he had thought he had mastered. A soft grunt escaped him and he scrambled to stand back up knowing just how quick his opponent was. His paws gripped the sand but he was a large male and going down had been hard.
He pushed himself up and twisted his head to refocus on Uuo with slight concern. Still he had been slow to recover and waited trying to figure out what he could do next without ending up eating sand.

She came at him with all the seriousness that could be allotted to a duel, not giving him room to breathe so to speak. As soon as he was on his paws again she was already on top of him again, this time wrapping her front arms around him and twisting her body in a way that as she threw her weight against him she'd be pulling him down with her, with him bracing their fall. They were close in build, bulk wise, so she was sure that their momentum combined would be his downfall-- literally.
Dragging in a deep breath she pulled back, hoping that she'd managed to wind the other. The sand, though loose as the barest packed and crumbled dirt, made for a hard bed to land on when compacted so dense with only the wind and living creatures to move it.
"Better... you've got to do better!" She warned, seeing the way that this duel was going already.

Yensid held back a grunt as he felt her land on him, lord but she was larger then any rogue female he had encountered. He moved faster this time his paws pulling him away from the female before turning to face her. She was still fast, too fast, he was going to have to wait until she moved in.
Slowly his body twisted curving to provide a tantalizing target even as his muscles coiled ready to dart away. Perhaps being offensive wasn't going to work, instead he waited patiently hoping she would tire herself out before the heat tired him out.

She came back to her own just in time to see him moving, clearly intending to charge again, but she noticed something off. Was he purposely creating an opening? She would teach him a thing or two then. Uuo had to resist the urge to smirk and chance giving away her plan. Instead she lunged, suddenly.
Now what she'd INTENDED to do was change paths and knock his legs right out from under him instead, but a sharp pain in her paw informed her that she had just tripped over the edge of a rock that had been buried in the partial sands. She took an undignified tumble chest first to the sand, the air leaving her own lungs with great force. She winced, growling as she soon realized that her paw had caught nothing but empty air.

Yellow eyes narrowed in confusion before widening in surprise as he saw the usually graceful female land in the sand. Well that was unexpected, and undoubtedly an accident. He turned a slight chuckle into a cough not wanting to upset her by laughing. Well at least he wasn't the only one taking these little dirt baths.
He took advantage to slip behind her waiting for her to recover certain that she would with speed and ease. A wry smile crossed his muzzle still unable to conceal his amusement.

Uuo heard the cough, suspecting it was covering up something else-- though there was always the possibility that he was genuinely coughing for no reason. Standing again with an indignant glower she shook out the offended paw, turning on him quickly.
"Oh, you just think you're hilarious don't you?" She growled, leaping again, with more luck this time, though the end result was the same. She felt the undeniable swoosh of air as she slipped past him, wincing as she came down on the stubbed paw. It wasn't the spot that stubbed that hurt, but the leg in general from the way she'd banged it again on the way down. Turning on just three leg in this situation was difficult. When did he get so fast?!

He moved with newfound speed, speed born of desperation he HAD to prove himself. His eyes had taken in the sight of her balanced on three legs and his body went into motion before he could make the conscious choice to move.
With a flying leap he landed on the large female triumph as he felt her body give under his weight. At last!

She hit the ground hard before she knew it. She had only enough time to register that he MUST be behind her once he was no longer in her line of sight.
Grunting this time, and skidding just a bit, she felt his weight against her back just moments after. She felt a little embarrassed, but no real shame. Terrain had a very real effect in battle, she didn't hold it against anyone for taking advantage of various elements during a fight, she encouraged it as long as it wasn't completely cowardly.
Still... that was a perfect winning streak broken!
~Damn!~

He pinned her down moving his full weight closer to the center of her body not wanting to hurt her legs after her hard landing.
His mouth moved over the back of her neck with tender playful pressure and he chuckled lightly against her fur his paws firm against her shoulders. "Give up?" The question was muffled against her neck hopefully.

His weight on her middle back kept her from getting up, but his paws on her shoulders kept her from squirming, too. Catching her breath gave Uuo those few precious moments to collect herself again, giving a tolerable response, growling quietly.
"Smartass."
He had to realize she couldn't really fight back from this position, but all the same she pushed back against him, trying to throw him off.
"The sooner you get-- OFF of me--" She grunted "--the sooner I can, bring you to the regents, you know."

Yensid chuckled and nibbled a moment longer at the back of her neck leaving the fur sticking up before moving off of her. "You can't blame me for wanting to savor that..." His yellow eyes narrowed with mild concern.
"Is your paw okay? I doubt any regent would be pleased with me if I'd injured their Captain." He gave a light shake his red fur fluffing a bit the black parts streaked with sand from his earlier tumble.

With his weight gone the female was free to stand, muttering and reaching up to smooth the fur back down on the back of her neck while choosing to ignore the fact that such a gesture could be considered pretty flirtatious and intimate.
"It's fine. Not like you put that rock there." She dismissed it readily, shaking out the limb in question and then cuffing him harmlessly but firmly on the back of the head. "That--" She pointed. "--was for ruffling my fur. Let's go."
Smirking then, Uuo jerked her head in the direction of the pride's inner territory. Each of them had their own ways of going about these duels, some showing the land first, then dueling, others like her, dueling first and then only allowing the privledge to the victors to whom the spoils should rightfully go. In the end the results were almost always the same, but for Yen it seemed the ordinary just wasn't good enough. A new guard among their ranks, huh? And better still, one that could hold his own against HER of all Firekin.
For once Uuo didn't mind the taste of defeat.
