Floyd I've seen their carbines but never fired one. The fact that they're only available in .40 or 9mm means they are limited to home defense or lite varmint shooting. High Point does offer a 100% lifetime warrantee to the original buyer of the gun. That's rare in the industry. But given that much of the gun is made out of polymer, you may be sending it back for cracks in the stock. Compared to other low end guns, this is about as safe as one can be in the marketplace. The 100% warranty is for ALL (legal) owners of the firearm, be that the first or fifth.
GLOCKs are also made out of polymer. Their frame is, anyway, and they are also made in heavier calibers.
All the personal experiences I've heard with the Carbine is that it's a great little gun, accurate as can be, just ugly as sin. MY personal experiences match that. Just ugly as sin, but otherwise an excellent gun, especially for the cost.
THey have a NEW version, the 995TS, which has a new stock. It has a recoil dampening spring in the stock (It's 9mm! WTF!? That is NOT hard recoiling!) and is SUPPOSED to be better. It hasn't been out long enough to have established a standard, and it's about $60 more expensive. You should be just fine with a used original 995. Buy the cheapest piece of s**t you can find, shoot it a bit (if safe) and send it in for repair or replacement.
"Damage, age, and plain old wear and tear—these things happen. When they do, Hi-Point customers enjoy a lifetime, no questions asked warranty. And lifetime means just that— free repairs for the life of the gun, whether you are the first owner, or the third. That service is fast, friendly and expertly performed. Your Hi-Point will be back in action, good as new, in no time."

I want one with a pistol grip and the CX4 esque stock, because I wanna put a hogue grip on it.

Doesn't hogue make those universal grips?
