Seriously!
That new shop Dernier Cri?

The owner's foreign language is actualy Icelandic!
Which I totaly am
xD
And his name, Brennivin is actualy a rather strong Icelandic alcohol.
Which makes most foreigners react something like
"Oh dear god are you trying to kill me!?!?"

But yah.
The words ,Heilsa, Svalr, Gott Kvöld, Já, neitun, Milljón,
are all Icelandic.

Btw.
Gaia is totaly butchering my native language with bad spelling and grammar...should I feel offended?

I bet they're using the google tranlator thing.
Which is horrible since the appearantly translate things like
"Ég er hýr og skoppandi af gleði" as "Holy s**t I'm gay!"
D: While it actualy means more like "I'm happy and cheerful" or something simular.
The word Svalr is missing a letter D:

ill just say its slightly more than 1 mil. @DT and if that was true I would hate gaia. I think it is a 'traveling' shop, so its more...rare item-ish. In the description of the update he said that sometimes its never there or is gone for months at a time, so it either travels or has just pierced the veil between worlds lol.

I'm curious what that all means now. sweatdrop

I'd say be offended but I'm amused by it.
It's kind of like a kid trying to act all British so they talk all posh-like with the refined accent and drink nothing but tea and crumpets.
And just so we don't offend DT xd
It'd be like a British kid trying to act American so they curse, eat McDonalds for every meal, and ignorantly hate Mexicans for "stealing their jobs"

And JESUS CHRIST.

"wot wot? tally ho pip pip?"
*sips tea innocently while wearing a bowler hat*

vs

"AWE-SUUUUM!" *backwards baseball cap, sunglasses* "YEAAAAH! DUUUDE!"

haha yeah i guess it's like that. Never knew there was an icelandic stereotype, but apprently there now i -haha
PostPosted: Thu Oct 01, 2009 4:46 pm

Yeah, something like that. xD

I didn't know there was an Icelandic stereotype either.
I've never met someone from Iceland before though or heard of people from Iceland.
It's funny when people give me a look like "So does that mean you're a prostitute or stripper?" when I say I'm from Vegas.
Damn stereotypes.
I'm too expensive to work in some sleazy strip joint. D<
They can't afford me.
(and now I'll stop digging myself into a hole xD)

OMG! Icelandic lesson for youuuuu!

Heilsa (Að Heilsa)=To greet(someone), so yah. using that word is not grammaticly correct.
(Correct words would have been "Hæ, Góðan daginn, Halló")
Svalr =Cool (slang and also used for cold just like the word "cool")
wrong spelling though, should be "Svalt" and even then it propobly be
"Svalur" ex. "Hann er svalur" ="He's cool" (Also "You're cool" if you are male) or
"Svöl" ex "Hún er svöl"= "She is cool" ("Your cool" if said person is female)
("Svalt" is used "Þetta er svalt"= That's cool"
Gott Kvöld,=Good evening
=Yes
neitun (Að neyta=Too deny)
That word is being used incorrectly. Should have been "Nei"=No
Milljón af=Million of
Brennivín (Brenni-vín)" Litteraly means "Burning Wine"

It's also called Svarti Dauði=Black Death

No offense taken, it's a tounge twister of a language
;D
Icelandic is a very difficult language for most too learn I've heard.
The whole alphabet is pronounced differently here.
"I" is actualy the letter "Æ" in Iceland
The english "A" sounds like "Ei"
and so forth.

It's also a very old language that hasn't changed much in the last 1000 years. It's basicly a form of Ancient norwegian.
But yah. Old enough that I can read books that are hundreds of years old without any difficulty.

Also, english literature from around 700 or so?
Not that difficult too read since it has very simular roots as Icelandic.

Is it webcam time again? 8D

I can barely say any of that.
DT should get that but I'll explain for klikkhaus.
A while ago DT posted some "angelic speak" in an RP and I tried to read it on webcam, and failed. xD

I'd do it but I already know that much butchering would ensue.
That's really neat that the language has barely changed though.
Old English makes no sense to us, people who don't know Icelandic, anymore. :/

And Ohio is mainly known for our football team.....while pretty much most people even in the state have never heard of my hometown.

I wish you would
xD
I get all kinds of giggly feeling when I hear people trying to speak Icelandic

An example of an old Icelandic song/poem for anyone whos intrested on how it sounds:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z89TGnBIwtU
(First lines: Augun þín og augun mín, ó þeir fögru steinar. Mitt er þitt og mitt er þitt, þú veist hvað ég meina)

I only found about how easy old english text is when we where shown some old poem from around 700 in my english 603 class and we found severeal words that were pretty much ancient norwegian words.
