"Serenity" (or "Selenity") is a modification of the name of Selene, a Grecian moon goddess; may also be related to Serenity, the lunar sea.

Her mother, Queen Serenity, exhausted her powers about one thousand years ago in order to save Princess Serenity, her guardians (the Senshi, Luna, and Artemis ), and Prince Endymion. In this act of self-sacrifice (which resulted in her own death), she was forced to also send Queen Beryl of the Dark Kingdom and Beryl 's evil consorts to be reincarnated.
In Crystal Tokyo (in the future), she is the mother of ChibiUsa and the wife of Neo-King Endymion.

Costume: Skirt and scarf are blue. Bows and choker are dark pink or red, the choker is decorated with a gold crescent moon. Tiara jewel and circular hair bun decor (framed in gold or white) are red. Wears dark pink or red knee-high boots; each with a gold crescent moon, centred in the upward peak at the front, in the white band at the top. She also wears a white bodysuit and white gloves that go up to her elbows. The gloves have three dark pink or red bands at the top. Her dangling earrings each have three white pearls and a gold crescent moon.
Her original locket is pink, featuring a gold crescent moon with a circle above it surrounded by a gold band adorned with four coloured jewels (each representing a member of the inner Senshi ). Her pink locket for the R season; bordered in gold; has a gold star outline surrounding the crescent moon and circle ensemble and the four coloured jewels arranged outside the star outline. The S season locket is red and heart-shaped with gold trim and a gold crescent moon in the centre; her choker, now decorated with a gold heart.
In Super form, she also wears tri-feathered, white hairclips; her skirt changes to white with a blue band, across the bottom and yellow band just above it. Her back bow is light pink, larger, and tied with a longer ribbon. Her choker is golden with a dark pink or red heart. Also has semi-transparent three-layered sleeves. Her locket is a fancier version of the one worn as Sailor Moon in the S season, with white wings on the sides.
In Eternal form, she wears white, tri-feathered hairclips; the stripes on her scarf are gold; and she wears three skirts layered on top of the other: navy blue on the bottom, red in the middle, and a yellow one on top. Her sleeves are large, pink, almost completely spherical poufs; each with two red bands at the bottom. Her white gloves extend above her elbows; each decorated with three red bands and white, tri-feathered clips at the top; and each with a red band encircling her wrist, meeting in a low point at the front beneath a golden crescent moon. Her boots are white, with a red band across the top of each of them, decorated with a gold crescent moon at the centre of each of them at the front, and the upper point is now behind her knees. She wears a golden heart-shaped locket, on top of a pair of white wings (replacing the earlier front bow). Each of her golden earrings is a crescent moon with a dangling star. She also has large white wings attached to her back. She no longer wears a back bow or a tiara. A gold crescent moon is on her forehead.
Speech: Her original speech was: "For love and justice, I am the pretty sailor-suited soldier Sailor Moon! In the name of the moon, I will punish you!" This often followed an episode-specific speech, and was sometimes parodied (e.g., the teaser for the episode with the priest had "in the name of God, I will punish you!")
The dub can't use it because "Pretty Soldier" isn't in the English show name. The dub speech was initially: "I am Sailor Moon, champion of justice! On behalf of the moon, I will right wrongs and triumph over evil, and that means you!" Usually, when scripts are otherwise unchanged, "In the name of the moon, I will punish you!" is included. The dub sometimes rewrites the speech and it can look like Sailor Moon is introducing herself several times.
