A little while ago, Moonlight made a thread about upcoming games we're all looking forward to and a subtopic about movies came up.

So, are there any movies that you are looking forward to?

I'm looking forward to Holmes. I am not, however, looking forward to the people who will suddenly love Sherlock Holmes but actually just think Robert Downey Jr. is hot. I also hope they haven't raped his character too much (I couldn't think of a better way to put it).

And I'm kind of looking forward to The Wolfman. I know it's shocking that I, of all people, would ever want to see such a film, but try not to freak out too much!

I never read the books but I must ask.
Did Sherlock Holmes always know martial arts because I laughed when I saw that in the preview.
But I'll feel kind of bad for laughing if he really did know that in the books.

Honestly, Alice leaves kind of a sick feeling in my stomach.
I don't doubt the visual brilliance of the movie at all.
I doubt the storyline and interpretation of the book.
I know I'm going to have to punch a mindless Burton follower in the face for calling it the BEST MOVIE EVARRRR
I don't have anything against the man himself.
I honestly enjoy a lot of his work.
I despise that fandom that blindly follows him, buying anything they can get their hands on from his movies at Hot Topic.

The only movie I was really looking forward to was Where the Wild Things are and that came out last weekend.
Now I just need to go actually see it.

I hadn't heard of The Wolfman but I'm trying to decide whether it looks interesting or cheesy.
It's nice seeing a different monster though.
Honestly getting so sick of vampire movies.

I want to see the Christmas Carol too.
It looks pretty good actually.

I can't think of any movies I really can't wait for to come out in theatres.
I haven't been paying attention to movies lately.

i know what you mean about tim burton.
i love his stuff but it' s always primarily for the visuals and sense of humor. a few films of his i've not taken to much (eg edward scissorhands) but i always adore it's looks.
I love nightmare before xmas cos i watched it as a kid and remember the christmas i got given it as a kid, but i do start to tire of the merchandise after a point.

it's like quenten tarrantino - i love a lot of his stuff and can't watch/dislike a lot others. But i always adore his scriptwriting skill in dialogue and appreciate his over-the-top comic book style.

Ugh, it's annoying.
I'm not trying to be all "I'm so much better than you because I'm not part of the mainstream."
I am just sick of the mainstream. >[
Tim Burton does some good stuff but I've never been a huge fan.
I like Spielburg much more.
He did Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park which are some of my favorite movies.

I've never actually seen any of Quentin Tarrantino's films. >>;
I really wanted to see Inglorious Bastards but I heard it was way more serious than the trailer portrayed, I was expecting it to be a comedy rather than the drama I'm hearing it is, so I'm waiting for it on DVD.
But from looking him up on he seems to do a lot of horror movies.
I'm not a horror movie person so that explains why I haven't seen any of his movies.

with tarrentino if you're a CSI fan you wnat to check out teh episodes he did (where a dude gets buried alive) - very good stuff.

Also 'Kill Bill' s excellent if you have the stomach for it - i love the anime sequence and the scriptwriting between Bill and the Bride.

But for the script, humor and grittyness you shoudl check out pulp fiction smile
got Bruce Willis, Samuel L jackson, Uma Thurman, and John Travolta in it :3

CSI is alright.
I usually watch crime shows when I have nothing to do since they're always on some channel.
But if I ever see that episode while surfing I'll watch.

I doubt I have the stomach for Kill Bill.
I don't like gore.
Watching things that should be on the inside of someone's body come outside just doesn't sit right with me.
It doesn't make me nauseous, I just can't watch it.

I do mean to watch Pulp Fiction eventually though.
I should start making a list of movies I need to watch.
Then when I move out get a Netflicks account and rent ALL OF THEM.
Because there's a lot.
And my mom won't rent a lot of them for me. ]:

i think it was a feature long episode

aye killbill's bad for gore.

pulp fiction has gore, but only shootings so it's not so bad.

I've seen a scene or two from Pulp Fiction after someone has been shot so I think I'll be alright.
I do want to watch it since so many people have told me to.
And I like to watch "cult classics" to see what they're about.
Donnie Darko was confusing but actually quite thought provoking.
I'm still on a quest to watch Rocky Horror Picture and Pink Elephant.
PostPosted: Wed Oct 21, 2009 4:07 pm
my sister and mum say donny darko - they said it was crap and wierd lol

aww Rocky horror Picture show! me and my sis grew up with that musical

(which probably is a commentary on my parents' ability at parenting that they though a pair of 5 or 6 year old girls singing 'toucha toucha touch me i want to be dirty. chill me thrill me fulfil me, creature of the night' was hilarious lol)

I insist you go and watch it right now! lol

Really?
I didn't think it was bad, I just thought it was different.
Not so straightforward as films typically are.

I've been meaning to watch Rocky Horror for a long while.
I just haven't yet.

Feel bad, Zizzy. Feel bad.

Also, I accidentally read the biggest spoiler for Sherlock Holmes when I decided to verify this information. I had only read about his martial arts in an essay about the character. The article I looked at to verify this mentioned him explaining it in one of the stories. I clicked the story title (because I didn't recall reading that and the name of the story sounded like one I read) and BAM! Big spoiler. Of all the adventures it could have been mentioned in . . .

Dang it. Just dang it.

*ahem* Anyway . . .

zizzykitty

I hadn't heard of The Wolfman but I'm trying to decide whether it looks interesting or cheesy.

That's where the kind of, comes in. I'm hoping it doesn't end up being cheesy. Or at least not too cheesy.

Dang. It.

Indeed it was much more serious than the trailers suggested. The serious scenes dragged on.

Most of the "comedy" parts made me feel dirty.

Wow, really?
I found it surprising that a Detective in England in a time where it wouldbe extrememly difficult to travel to the East to learn a martial art knows one.
I thought it was something Hollywood threw in to make him more interesting or something like that.

I'm sorry you just spoiled that for yourself.
I've not been concerned with spoilers lately so maybe I should have just looked it up myself.
I've always wanted to read the books though so maybe I'll try doing that before seeing the movie.

I'll probably watch it later on DVD.
Or my horror movie buff buddy may drag me along to see it.
But I'm typically not her horror buddy so I doubt that.
(even though it honestly doesn't look scary like werewolf movies usually should be)

I heard it was still good just kind of a "bait and switch"
I'll still see it later though.

I typically have no problems with "dirty comedy" as long as it's done well.
Well is a very vague term though.
And I'm too tired to try to explain what I mean by that.
So let's say I'll probably enjoy the comedy unless the that too is a "bait and switch" because the parts in the trailer that looked funny amused me.

It's okay Dornkus.
Just look into this pen here....
And forget everything.

Spoilers are attracted to me or something. I found a Fable II spoiler in the comments section of a youtube video about an old Hulk video game.

I'll Elaborate. I felt dirty because a lot of the humor involved killing people. It's not so bad when it's a cartoon or something. I don't know. A lot of people felt it was okay "because they're Nazis!"

Ah, I get what you're saying.
I thought it was just joking about killing people.
Which I would be okay with.
Not actually killing people while joking about it
I've made some pretty bad jokes about grisly topics but joking while killing people...
I can see why that would have made you feel dirty.

Now come this way.
We've got to get our popcorn, the movie is about to start.
