Well, here was ‘tomorrow’. Not to say it made Artemis feel any more at ease than she had been before, but Namir was there.. and they’d PLANNED on there being kids in their future this time. None of this ‘surprise! Have some babies!’ stuff there had been before. Ohhhh no. Never again. They would have one more litter, possibly two if their second was a little one, and then they’d be done with babies.
Then they could focus all their time on doting on each other and being an old pair of hunting lovebirds…. That sounded a little less fantastic when she thought about it in her head, but it would be good when the time came around to it… but for the time being, she was ready for a little trek. Trekking trekking!
Namir was rather amused by how anxious Artemis seemed, chuckling and earning a leer from her before shrugging and playing an ‘alright alright, I’m sorry’ gesture with his head and taking the lead to their destination; they’d have to be up pretty high to pray to the Great Lion, afterall.. and he knew the PERFECT place for it from all of his hunting earlier that week.
Certainly Artemis had been hunting too, but…..yeah, she’d been too busy going ‘maybe maybe’ to really have been staking out the scenery. Scenery wasn’t BAD, it was just.. yeah… trees all looked the same to her, so now it was time for them to rely on her other half, who was more than happy to pave the way for the two of them. Mwa ha ha! But really, it ended up not being as long of a ‘trek’ as she’d been expecting.
Instead of over the river and through the woods, they’d headed out across the pridal lands to scale up a rather special looking rocky overcrop that made Artemis nervous, sitting precariously on the edge (her toes barely staying on the edge) of it to look over the scenery as the sun set.
Hmmm. It wasn’t a bad view for a sun set either… and as the sun DID slowly set, the great and wide-open eye of the Great Lion looked down at them. Oh wow! It was definitely a good time for them to do some praying! Namir seemed to agree too, leaning over to lick Artemis’s cheek and earn a bat on the nose for being playful.
“Careful with your paws, you don’t want me falling off of here, now do you?”
Ohhhh no! That would have been the last thing she needed was to be the cause of her mate’s fall to his death. That would have likely made her go “fjdlsfkajdsfklahdf;lajfklasfjkalsdfjaldfhads;lkfj” and then something else.
Namir just chuckled at her reaction (earning another leer from her) before looking up to stare back at the moon. Mmmmm, pretty moon! He liked the moon. Yep yep yep! Definitely and then some! To which, he offered a bow of his head after a moment of gawking. After watching him hold this position for a while, Artemis suddenly realized he was waiting on HER to join him.
So she did, bowing her own head towards the looming moon as well.
“Please watch over our future children.” He said, not raising his head. Artemis coughed, before adding her own plea to his; “Yes, please watch over them.”
There, that…. Was actually the shortest prayer ever, but religion to the degree of human’s worship wasn’t Artemis’s thing (nor was it the thing of most lions…that she knew of). She worshipped like a good follower, which made Namir happy, but she wasn’t going to turn into a raving lunatic (ironic!) either.
Namir was pleased with this, however, rising up to his feet and nudging Artemis’s side. “Now, we should head back now before it gets dark.. we’ve done all we can for them, now we can only hope that the great Lion listened.”
Artemis nodded weakly.
Though really, she wished there was something a little bit more she could do for them. Oh well, if they could at least become hunters, they would do well for themselves.
