"Nyeeehhhhh~" Mitra whined. She rolled onto her stomach in the hot sun and groaned, blowing her mane out of her eyes with an irritated huff. Everyone else was napping, but she couldn't sleep. She didn't want to. There had to be something more exciting than this.
The little blue cub stood up, arching her back as she stretched and yawned. Granted a little nap couldn't hurt, but if she backed out now she might get caught. Besides, she'd only go exploring a little ways away from the den so what could it hurt?
She looked back and feeling mightily triumphant in not having woken her family, Mitra struck out on her own.

Though only a cub, Zarha was already more independent than her siblings. She possessed a level of fearlessness, and perhaps bullheadedness, rivaling her father at that age. That she knew most of her neighbors helped. Ukuucha’Wafalme was a relatively safe place to grow up, not that it stopped her parents from worrying when she went wandering.
That blue cub must be one of the vizer’s daughters, Zarha thought, grimacing in disgust at her blue pelt. Probably a stuck up little brat like all the pretty cubs. Her parents talked about the vizers sometimes. Zarha was getting good at recognizing their offspring.
She looked around expecting to see the vizer near by. Instead she saw no one. How weird.

The blue cub paused and looked over at the black spot blocking her view. She sneered instantly. Her own pelt was like a shining sky compared to that. It looked like mud! Snidely she noted that it looked like the other cub had stuck her face in it and it stuck to her face.
She might have been pretty, but there was no way Mitra would admit to that. Black wasn't a color of the Sultan's pad, nor her own father's, but it ran in Tariq's. She'd seen him in passing once and heard stories from her father. Maybe this was one of his cubs.
Still, she couldn't leave well enough alone and pranced over to the darker cub with her head held high. "Wow, your furs so dark. You must be really hot today."

Suddenly the blue cub started to move toward her. Zarha felt her fur stand on end, the tip of her tail bristle. Look at the way she walks. She thinks the sun bows to her at dusk. When she spoke her smug tone almost turned her ears flat against her skull but she forced herself to look unimpressed, rather than give this bratty cub the satisfaction of thinking her feelings had been hurt. She narrowed her eyes. “Aren’t you a little young to be out here by yourself, Blueberry? I don’t see your daddy around.”

When the black cub started to bristled up she was momentarily wary. Then self preservation kicked in. No one was going to attack the daughter of a Vizier. She wasn't some ol' Kajira! "Blueberry's cute. Thanks!" Mitra giggled, and looked around. "Your daddy's not here 'ever. Your not so much older than me, mud cub." She puffed up her little chest and flattened her ears back. "Who're you, anyway?"

"I'm Zarha!" she exclaimed, puffing up her chest too. Even if Blueberry's father was a Vizier, she wasn't about to let this pretty snob think she was better than her.
She stuck up her chin. "I don't need my father to watch me all the time. My parents are both warriors, they journied here from a distant pride and they taught me how to take care of myself." This was true. Her father didn't teach her all the same things he taught her brother Harb, but he was teaching her how to defend herself. She didn't understand why her father showed her how to knock a male off his center of gravity. The mini-lessons were fun and gave her a feeling of self-confidence.
The truth was this: as Zarha grew older, Vu wanted her to be able to fend off over-eager males who might try to take advantage of her without his permission or the permission of her pad. Of course, there were laws to prevent that kind of behavior. Vu knew that not all males would obey the rules.

Mitra cocked her mouth back in a disgusted snarl. "Only boys are warriors, dumby. Unless your a boy." She looked her up and down, partially believing it could be true. After all, the other girl wasn't very pretty in her opinion. Maybe she would do better as a boy.
It wasn't like Mitra had no knowledge of fighting herself. She'd been in enough scraps with her siblings to know how to dodge and strike. Slowly she flexed her chubby paws in the dirt. If it was a fight she wanted, then a fight she'd get!
(Uber sorry for the lateness. Mitra muse checked out.)

"I don't need to be a warrior to take care of myself, stupid. Outside of the pride a lot of girls are warriors - so that shows what you know," Zarha barked. She was growing very frustrated with this Blueberry girl. She thought she knew everything but she obviously knew very little.
Zarha flattened her ears and flashed her tail. She didn't think Blueberry was brave enough to really fight her.
((Heh, ditto. ^^' ))

Mitra flat growled at the stupid girl. She wasn't stupid, the mud cub was! They weren't outsiders, so why did it matter what a rogue acted like? It just made her resemble a Kajira that much more.
She didn't waste time in pounce mode. Her quick anger got the better of her, causing Mitra to fly at Zarha with a roar.

Zarha let out a little yelp of surprise. She never expected the stuffy Blueberry to flat out attack her. As far as she could tell, Mitra might be related to one of the Viziers and she expected better behavior from one of their spoiled cubs. Zarha, on the other hand, was born to new members of the pride, former rogues. She felt she had more to prove. She managed to dig her back legs into the ground to keep herself from falling over.
With the force drained from Mitra's attack, Zarha pushed her off and swung hard at her face. Maybe a good hard smack on the nose would tell her off.

Mitra wasn't like other girls of her station. She was agressive, more than ready to fight for what she believed in, just not infront of those who mattered. This cub...this mud cub...she was so going down.
The cub fell back on her back and narrowly dodged Zarha's attack. She cocked her hip to the side and kicked at her chest.

"Ow!" The kick landed square on Zarha's chest. She backed off and shook herself furiously. It stung a little, but the pain went away quickly.
This is stupid, Zarha thought. Zarha knew how to fight but that didn't mean she enjoyed it. Besides, this stupid Blueberry didn't seem worth her time. Since she had managed to anger the Blueberry into fighting her she decided that the Blueberry had made her point for her, so there was no reason to get herself roughed up. She glared at the other cub. "You're an idiot! Do you really think you're proving anything this way?"
