He sat by that lake, glancing out across its partially concealed image. A mist had crept in sometime during the night and now the first of the morning's sunlight had begun to filter through it, tinging it with gold. The same gold touched the edges of Aapep's face as he looked on.
He was alone.
A white bird flitted high above his head, dipping unseen into a great sheet of cloud. To be so free...what a wonderful feeling that would be.
"It's another new day, Mother." He whispered softly. "I wonder whether your world is anything like this one. I wonder whether the clouds marr the sky. Perhaps there are mists on your water, too."
He blinked and drew himself back from his spoken thoughts, casting his gaze back to the water. "But no mist is strong enough to hold back the sun..."

He wasn't completely by himself. There was something creeping not that far away in the bushes. A smirk on the creature's face. "A little lower." He murmured quietly to himself as he flicked his tail around behind him. He was so excited to pratice his hunting skills, better yet on his dad! He was getting older and his mane was starting to grow in. He He didn't want to be like those other teenage lions that didn't want anything to do with his parents any more after a certain age. No way. He loved his family And he loved his dad.
Today he found a perfect time to spend time with his father. He really liked that idea. He smirked before taking off through the bushes before letting out a roar. "AND THE MIGHTY HUNTER POUNCES!" He shouted as he pounced on his father. "Gotcha!" He laughed as he nipped at his father. He wasn't anywhere as close to his father's size. He still had to grow some and on top of that he just wasn't the same size. He grunted slightly before rolling on the side of his father, laughing as he did.

He felt something collide with him and, realising it wasn't an attacked, rolled onto his side, exposing his vulnerable underside. He waved his paws upwards in a lame attempt of fending off his attacked, laughing as he did so.
"Help. Help. I'm being attacked by some big scary..." He paused, opened an eye a little and glanced at his son. "Oh, Ko, it's you. You must have scared that big old monster that just tackled your poor old dad!"
He laughed again. "What are you doing up so early?"

Kova couldn't help but to laugh to. He was glad that his father wasn't really caught off guard and attacked him. No that wouldn't be that fun. He rested his front paws and his head on his belly before grinning widely at his father. Flicking his tail around and nipping at his father's mane a few times. "Of course I scared it away!" He laughed before letting out a small yawn and stretching out some more "I tried to beat to waking up but it seems like she is up before anyone would even think about waking up!"
He laughed slightly, it was something he liked to do some times. Try to beat his mother but it always failed him. He shrugged the idea off. "I kinda like waking up early anyway." He nipped again before purring a bit.
"Me and you need to spend some together dad."

"We do?" He blinked, nodding. "Yes, we do. I've been so preoccupied lately and I've been neglecting my duties towards you, Ko. Well, not anymore!" He ruffled his son's hair fondly. "So, was there anything in particular you wanted to do today? I didn't have much planned, other than the usual things, so whatever you're up for, I'll join in."
He grinned.
"And, if that cloud stays around, it might even rain. Rain is such a rare piece of inspiration."

Kova smiled at his dad and nodded happily. "We do." He chuckled before looking up at him. "I under stand that you are busy! But you don't look like it now." He teased slightly before licking the side of his dad's face. He laughed again then wiggled around a little bit before hopping to his feet and doing a bit of a dance around his dad.
"I want you to teach me something... Or just talk. I don't know." He nodded slightly he was pretty satisfied with doing something small with his dad. He wasn't one to want to do something big. He was like his mom, he was very happy with just spending some time with him. Like his mom he loved to play and learn. He would be happy just with that.
"Or we can do something that you want to do dad." He nodded fondly then grinned. "the rain would be awesome!" He looked up at the sky before giggling. "It's fun to dance in the rain."

Aapep nodded and stood, shaking the dust from his striped pelt. "I'm never too busy for you, Kova." He gave his son a firm nudge and started off at a slow walk. He smiled to himself at how much his son reminded him of Mawi. His energy and spirit. It was heart-warming to see.
"Well, whilst we wait to see if it rains, tell me, how're you getting on in your musical studies? Have you decided on your profession?"
Would he dance? Would he drum? Or maybe he'd sing? Aapep was curious to see his musical children flourish and bloom.

Kova nodded at his father before chuckling a little bit. "Alright dad." He smirked a bit before nodding. "I'll remember that." He flicked his tail around before he started to wander behind his father, flicking his hair around as he did He trotted behind his father humming slightly as he did. Enjoying the day already! Just the idea of spending some time with his father. He was very happy at the idea.
"I'm not that sure of what I want to do." He laughed a little bit before nodding at his father again. "I kind of want to sing, and dance and drum all at the same time. But that's a little harder than it sounds." He laughed at himself then flicked his hair out of his eyes. Before looking at his father before down at his paws. "I kinda like dancing the best though." He nodded proudly at the idea, sticking out his chest some proudly. He knew his father liked to dance too.

"All three at once? I'd like to see that! I bet that would take some mighty fine practise!" He laughed. "It's good that you're interested in doing everything, though. It'll make you a nice rounded lion. The ladies will love that." He grinned.
He felt his pride grow even more, though, at his son's final declaration. "Dancing? Really?" Like father, like son?
"Well, I don't claim to be a master of dance, but I'm always here if you need any help with your dancing steps. It's always good to try and do something surprising, something original." He continued. "But more important than that is to feel the steps. Feel the music. Use the world as your drum and move to its beat." He shook his head. "It's hard to explain, but I think you'll understand someday if not already."

Kova laughed a bit at his dad before nodding. "Well I've tried all three but it failed me. You can dance and sing and drum and sing but you can't do all three.. I don't even think you can drum and dance." He made a face at the thought of not being able to do it. He then glanced at his dad with a large smirk on his face. "I really hope that I'd get some attention from the ladies. There are a few cute ones around here." He grinned proudly and puffed out his chest before he found himself tripping over a branch. He quickly got back to his feet and decided it would be best to pay more attention to what was going on in front of him.
"I love dancing!" He chuckled and nodded toward him. "It's different. I don't know it feels right." He flashed a grin at his dad before looking at him. "You're really good at dancing though." He made a small face but then grinned and nodded. "I get most of it... But not all of it. Hopefully I'll be able to understand." He nodded proudly he would really like to understand the world and all of his secrets;

"This pride is full of fine lionesses." He agreed with a smile. "I found the love of my life here, in your mother. I hope you'll find a female to love just as much, here in this very lands, too." He paused as his son tripped and turned, laughing quietly.
"Give it time, son, and you'll understand. It comes with practise and age. One day you'll wake up and everything will fit into place. It'll be as if you always knew it."
He gave his son a gentle cuff across the ear. "Just believe in yourself in the way that we do and you'll not go far wrong."

Kova looked his father before nodding toward him. "There are a lot of females here, they are all really nice... I'm not sure if there are any here that are interested in me." He let out a small laugh at himself before flicking his hair out of his eyes and looked around. "There is a lot here, I don't know I might wander out of the pride for a little bit and see if I can find some one." He looked back at his face before starting to slow down some so he could catch up some. He didn't want to lose him by walking that fast, even though he was pretty sure that he couldn't he didn't want to take his chances.
"I'm practicing as much as possible." He nodded proudly before looking at his dad with a smile on his face. "I want to be like you one day dad." He laughed quietly. "I want to be a great dancer, with a family and a beautiful mate."

He couldn't help it. He felt himself panic when his son mentioned leaving to go and find himself someone. What if he didn't come back? Or what if something happened to him? No...no he couldn't stop him. He had to let his son make his own decisions, no matter how difficult it might be to let go.
His son was growing up.
"The world can be dangerous, but it is also exciting and there is a lot to see. It probably wouldn't hurt for you to get out and see some of it. We have family in another pride. You are always welcome to go and visit them."
He smiled. "You can make your life however you want it, Kova. No doubt about it."
Above them, the clouds opened and rain spilled down to wet the ground about their feet. Aapep smiled and turned his head towards his son. "The rains look kindly upon us, it seems. How about we go practice some new steps to its rhythm?"

"Yeah, mom was telling me about your family." She smiled at him, the idea that he had cousins outside of the pride made him excited. He just wasn't that sure about going that far himself. "Mom also said something about some of our family being in the pridelands." He was pretty sure that was the name of the pride. He glanced at her again before smiling at him. "Well for now I'll wander away from the pride just a little bit, not that far." He was pretty sure that was a good idea for him, in that case he could run into some one or even just make a few new friends.
He was caught off guard when all of a sudden there was rain beating down on his head. He started to smile as he looked at his father. "That sounds like a plan!" he laughed as he looked up at the skin, shaking his head to get the wet mini mane from sticking to his forehead. Only in this pride would the members be this excited about rain

He smiled, glad that his son wasn't planning to go walking off across the world. Not too far sounded like a good plan and he could rest easy knowing that he wasn't too far away.
He nodded. "That's right."
He grinned at his son's response and, with a laugh of joy, turned to move off at speed across the land. "Then let's make haste, in case it's only a brief rain spell!"
But the rain fell on, refreshing the land with its precious element and putting joy into the lions of this musical pride. Lions who knew and appreciated the rhythm of the world.
