The days were getting so much shorter, it seemed. Malik didn't care for that at all, how short it was. Ears flicking as he moved outside of the shared den, he frowned. He didn't care for a lot of things, though. He and his brothers were getting ignored by their father and questions came to his mind. Why didn't he look like any of his mothers or his father? Why didn't his daddy look at him like he was a good son? It made him feel completely unloved. He wasn't close to anyone in his family, it seemed. Yellow eyes flickered this way and that and then he frowned again. Nothing to do again.
Uggi was the opposite of her den brother at that moment. She had been outside the den playing in the pile of dried grass her mother always had out there, their den material. She had watched Ukoo work tediously at collecting the grass, rotating it, replacing the old and worn with new and fragrant. Uggi loved the grass, cause her Mommy always had that smell on her paws. Uggi rather liked it. She had been playing in the pile, burying her little head into it like her mothers side. She giggled and frolicked until she was covered in grass pieces and seed pods. She was rather comical looking with the stems sticking out from behind her ears like ornaments. She stood from her 'fun pile' and saundered into the den with a big grin and reeking of dried grass.

Giggling caught the pink male's attention and he turned his head to watch one of his sisters. Which one was it again? Oh, was it Uggi? With the doubt in mind, Malik moved over towards her and her 'fun pile' and attempted to make a noise so she wouldn't go in the den. The den made him feel so uncomfortable and so unloved. Ears flicking, he mewled a little and then called out to her.
"Uggi! Wait a minute!" And he raced to get to her, blocking her path to the den with a big smile on his face. Of course he wasn't breathlss. That little run didn't do anything for him. "Hi, Uggi! You smell like grass as usual!"
Uggi was feeling mighty pleasent at that moment. Oh yes She felt like brilliant rain or flowers. She felt fantastic and her big sweet smile showed it. She was pretty much excited that her Brother Malik was coming to play, at least she hoped. "Malik! Malik yay!" She squeealed, wiggling this way and that and causing her little grass travelers to fall off her fur. She giggled and head butted him gently, giggling again. "Why do I haves to wait Malik?"

At the headbutt, Malik returned it with a grin of his own and a laugh. "I thought you'd go back in the den, that's why!" He said with a nod. She might be older, but she acted his age! Hopping from side to side, playfully, Malik nipped at her cheeks and toes as she stood still. Yes, playing with Uggi could make things seem brighter! He hoped, anyway.
Uggi loved to play and make believe. She love love loved to pretend she was a moth and flutter around with leaves in her mouth or that she was a zebra and would draw dirt stripes on her pelt. She especially loved to play with her siblings. She giggled immesnly as he nipped her toes and cheeks and wriggled away from him on pudgy baby paws. "Whys? Den is fun and smelly!" She said, beaming.
She gave a few rowls and flopped herself back into the grass and rolled, her eyes squeezed shut. "Smelly smelly smell!"

Malik shook his head. "It does not feel good in there! It makes me feel weird. 'cause... Daddy ...." His ears lowered a bit more and he looked to the side, the good nature lost. He didn't like the den, even if it was smelly. With a sigh, Malik sat down and watched her, a little smile on his lips. She was lucky. She knew who she looked like and knew who her mother was. He didn't.
Uggi was a bit confused about what ever did happen to her brothers real mommy. Obviously it wasn't Ukoo, the olive or Orah the stripey or O'tep the other stripey mom. She still acted that they were all sibings of the same mom sometimes and since Malik was being raised by Ukoo and O'tep and their cubs. She frowned. "Cause daddy is a butt head..." She said with a nod, smiling. She so far wasn't understanding the 'girls below boys' thing, but she was getting there. "Erm- I mean.. cause of daddy...'
She said, correcting herself with pride. She was very naive.. this little olive.

The little girl made him smile a bit. Daddy was a butthead, though he'd never say that out loud. Watching her, he gave a little shake of his head and gave a little laugh at her correction. He moved towards Uggi and tugged her close, licking her hair tuft a bit along with her nose and between her eyes, making sure it was good and wet.
Uggi squealed as he grabbed her, not a scared sound but an excited happy one. She wriggled, putting her paws up and trying to swat him away. "Nooo. Noo Malik!" She giggled, not wanting washings. Mommy Ukoo did washings all the time and Uggi didn't like it. It made the smells go away. "But Malik... now nose is wet like a puddle!" She said, wrinkling her nose up in a playful manner. "See, wet wet wet." She said, singing the phrase.

Malik laughed more and smirked a bit, licking her face again and again despite being swatted. He didn't mind; he knew she was just goofing around! Laughing happily, Malik let her go and tapped her on her shoulder, singing the line of: "Tag, you're it!" He shouldnt' dwell on what he can't change. It wouldn't be fair to either of them.
Uggi laughed and wiggled and cheered. She was always so bright and cheerful no matter what. She would be that way for a long long time, but regardless she was very observant of others feelings. She looked over at Malik and gave him a look-a sisterly look of sisterhood. "I am glads you is happy happy now and not sad!" She said, starting after him with a cheerful smile.

Taking off as she gave chase, Malik grinned. Yeah, he was happy, too. She helped so much despite not knowing about his mental fights. He turned and made his way to her 'fun pile' and went in a circle around it before climbing up and over. "Thanks to you, I'm happy!" He exclaimed, sorting through what she had here. It was a lot of stuff, and he didn't know how to play with most of it, which was what he was trying to figure out.

Uggi chases after him, though her little pudgy legs made it hard to keep up with him and the fact she was a total klutz didn't help. She laughed aloud. She tried to follow him the best she could but simply decided to sit down on the ground below him. "Good. I am glad!" She said simply. "I'm tired of unhappy time in the den!"
She started to climb up after him. "Specially you Malik... You're one of the coolest of the den!"

He looked back to his sister and gave a smile. Really, his elder siblings, especially the girls, seemed to at least accept him as a play mate. It was better than no contact what so ever with his family.
Golden eyes looked back to her, making sure she wasn't going to fall and hurt herself before he finally sat down and looked out at the pride. It was an ever growing pride, and the whispers of his birth were growing with it. At the same time, he knew the rumors would die down and then he'd be really happy.
"I'm tired of it, too. So we should come out here all the time and play!"

Uggi nodded. "Yes. I like to play and be away from it all... though I like being with Mommy and Aunty Otep but it's better to be with my siblings." She looked up at him. She had always felt as though he was a true sibling even though they shared other fathers, or as far as she knew they did.
"I wish I could play forever... but I know someday I'll have to grow up." She said sadly.

He leaned against her and nodded. Growing up was a huge part in this pride. When he reached adolescent, he'd have to go and capture a female. But something made him not want too. A part of Malik just wanted to run away from all of this mess; the whispers, hateful looks.
But the ones like his sister made him want to stay and tough it out. Maybe he could grow up to be something big in this pride. False hopes and dreams. "Yeah, but not right now."
