In this Lesson, we are learning the basics of the 5 vowel sounds of hiragana. They are:
あいうえお
あ - A - Pronounced like 'Ah' い - I -Pronounced like 'Ee' う - U -Pronounced like 'Oo' え - E -Pronounced like 'Eh' お - O -Pronounced like 'Oh'
These are the basic vowel sounds of the Japanese Language.
If you add a 'K' in front of あいうえお, they become...
かきくけこ
か - Ka - Pronounced 'Kah' き - Ki - Pronounced 'Kee' く - Ku - Pronounced 'Koo' け - Ke - Pronounced 'Keh' こ - Ko - Pronounced 'Koh'
Did you notice any pattern?
かきくけこ was basically あいうえお in pronunciation, but you added a 'K' sound in front of it. See how important the あいうえお sounds are?
EXAMPLES:
かいます - [ka-i-ma-su] To Buy. こども - [ko-do-mo] Child. あおい - [a-o-i] Blue (adj). あかい - [a-ka-i] Red (adj).
You see? There are no tricky pronunciations when it comes to reading in Hiragana. It is what it is phonetically. Now you can say Blue and Red (adj)! See how easy that was?
Next Kana Lesson we will be learning the next 10 Hiragana Kana.
