Dont worry Sahal(Gimmehugtoo) is from Saudi Arabia...
Well, in Pakistan they celebrate Muhammad(saw)'s b-day. And no, it's not always December 17th. It's diffrent every year, cuz its hijra.
Christmas is haram, cause it's christian. But b-day and new year is not christian as many extremist says. wink So it is not haram smile It is good, cuz Allah told us to have strong relations with family, that's why we should meet with family and maybe send some rockets in the air wink
Just to celebrate, celebrate everything. It ben a good year, we survived a year, we are going into a new time. Alot weird stuff is celebrated, that's why it is not haram.

It ben a good year, we survived a year, we are going into a new time. Alot weird stuff is celebrated, that's why it is not haram. person that I was told muslim new year is dec 17 this year didn't discuss the subject any further. PLus it was the first time I had heard of it. Anyhow how does it work out to be different times of year? Also is it discuss in the Quran? I know unless it is something I have been searching for confidence in or is general good life advice I don't always remeber what I read in scripture (ex. would be the subject of interest on bank loans aka "Islamics Banking").
Since you mention X-Mas on the subject o gift giving I have heard Muslim view on gift giving is more in line with b-day gifting rather then x-mas (that is to say gift giving isn't really gift giving when it is two way but rather something more like an exchange or trading and true gift giving is giving something to someone else without expecting anything in return). Again an other subject only brought to my attention via conversation and not something I have read about in the Quran or if I had it wasn't something that stuck in mind.
