Padding along, Kai lifted her golden eyes towards the sky. She was confident about this time, confident that she was fully able to defeat whatever opponent stood before her. Her young heart had been growing anxious, waiting under that tree that lay on the borders of the pride. Her previous injury had healed, and she had grown restless waiting in the wings.
Her small body slinked through the grass, quickly drawing closer to the lands. If she won this time....if she won, she would finally have a place to call home.

Ubawa wasn't feeling it.
He didn't know why he was even there, really. But he supposed there was no turning back now. He would make sure he didn't slack off just because he was a little bit under the weather. No matter what, he had to make sure he tried his hardest.
No one was going to say he was the kind of lion to give up and let others do as they please.
Looking over the female, he arched an eyebrow. This was the creature he was supposed to duel? Hardly seemed like a challenge at all. Good. Quickly, he'd finish the duel and get back to his den for some sleep.
"Ladies first," he muttered.

Eyeing the large male before her, Kai had to admit that she was a bit nervous. The male she'd met before didn't seem as daunting, and she had lost to him. She tried swallowing her fears and focusing on her task. Her eyes held for a moment on his red wings, vibrantly standing on his black coat.
"Well, aren't you the gentleman?" She paused for a moment, her front legs spread. She took the initiative, her mind racing to pick a strategy. Second later, her paws quickly twisted on the ground, initiating the duel that would determine whether she was forced to wait again or if she could live here now.
Her body seemed to twist, and she aimed at on of his large legs, but she could feel that something was off from the start of the attack. Her claws felt nothing but air between them, and a moment of fear flashed through her eyes. She didn't want to lose, and judging by this bad beginning, she had lost some hope of winning.

Ubawa rose up onto his back feet as she came at him, almost casually avoiding her attack as she dove at him. Rushing in just like that? Had she honestly expected to hit him while being so brash? She was going to have to do a little bit better than that.
Even a sick lion could dodge an attack like that.
Though he kind of messed up how cool he was looking as he slammed his head down on top of hers, realizing too late that, while it was a very powerful attack, it also left him with one hell of a headache.
Stumbling back, he shook it off, blinking several times.

Kai winced as she went down. The male seemed like a mountain goat she had seen, raising up to butt heads with a threatening intruder. Kai, unlike the Barbary Sheep she had seen ages ago, was not built for ramming skulls into each other. Her eyes rolled back as she felt the blow, and she thought the male quite brutish for using such an attack; once her thoughts were regained, that is.
Stumbling quite a bit after her dizzying injury, Kai knew that she couldn't waste time. If the male was any bit in the condition that she was, she knew he'd be vulnerable for attack. She wobbled a bit more over towards him, knowing that what she was about to do was overly stupid, given her current condition. Nonetheless, she gathered all of her strength and ran at the male, ramming her shouler into his side. She hoped to knock him down, but the impact only further jostled her mind, and she turned away, trying to shake off the side-affects.

Stunned by his own attack, Ubawa stumbled and fell over when the female rammed into him, the larger animal admittedly surprised by the power she seemed to hold in her smaller frame. He toppled over himself, arms flail in a completely useless counter-attack.
He was just too stunned to really know what he was doing, his wild paws no where near her body. Probably because he wasn't really sure which of the females dancing about in his vision was the one he was supposed to be attacking.
Lying on his side, he shook his head again, trying desperately to clear his vision as he got himself back to his feet.

Her head no longer spinning, Kai glanced back over at the male, a slight sting in her eyes as she did so. It was quite amusing, actually, like watching a spider flail as you pull it's legs off.
She slinked over next to him, watching his spastic movements. She had almost forgotten about the duel that they were engaged in, pausing to muffle a giggle. It was too late to pose a good attack at this point, and besides, it would seem cruel to just beat up the male while he was down. Maybe wise, but cruel.

Ubawa smiled, sheepishly, and rose back to his feet, slowly turning his neck about to work the kinks out. His head was still pounding, and not because of the attack, but he knew there was nothing he could do about that. Despite the short comings, he was rather enjoying the duel.
She was a good opponent. It was an honor to fight her. Something he decided to let her know.
"You're quite strong," he said lightly, "I'm impressed, but don't think I'm going to let you win." Still had his pride to think about, of course. Tensing, he braced himself for another attack, his tail swaying behind him from side to side as he waited for her to make her next move.
Either of the two 'hers' he was looking at.

"Why thank you." Kai smiled and dipped her head, making a small curtsey. From just glancing at him, one wouldn't think that he'd be this kind. Kai was actually glad that her opponent was so chatty this time around.
She wasn't going to let his politeness deter her, however. He may have been....large, but she wouldn't let him win just because of that.
"You might find that your ego will be your downfall." She smirked and quickly ran towards him, a paw flying through the air. She was relying on his lingering confusion to help her through this blow towards his neck.

"Who said anything about ego? I was just-" whoops, no more time for talking. He gasped, claws digging in the dirt as he tried to pull himself back from the blow. Unfortunately, he was watching two figures, neither one of them where the female was actually coming from. By the time they blurred together to form the real lioness, she was already much to close for him to avoid the attack.
His head had gone low in a failed attempt to dodge, so instead of her getting his neck, she got the side of his face instead, the hard blow surprising him and knocking him off balance.
It was no good. He couldn't hope to win this duel.
Stumbling, he swung a paw at her, once again feeling nothing but air as he sat down on his butt and blinked back some spots from his vision.
She had quite a right hook.

Kai bounced a bit as she came down from the attack. She could feel the pride well within her, and her small smile grew. She knew with that last attack that she was moments from victory. Squeezing her toes together, her mind focused briefly on the throbbing pain in her paw. His face was hard on her small paw, and she couldn't help but obtain some sort of damage from it.
"You're very good." Her soft voice rose up, happy about the whole affair. She bounced up and down on her toes, like a small cub waiting for its prize. "I hope you don't hold this against me." She laughed, her tail swishing behind her. It would be rather unfortunate to have such a large male against her in this new pride.

"Not at all," Ubawa relied, albeit a little reluctantly. As mush as he wanted to be the gracious loser, he couldn't help but struggle under the realization. He seemed to lose to females a lot. Was he subconsciously holding back against them?
He didn't feel like he was... but he just couldn't beat them. Except his sister. Once.
Sighing, he offered the female a more sincere smile. Nothing about his own problem was for her to worry about, nor was it something that should cheapen her win. "I'm happy to have dueled you. It was nice to see someone so intent on victory. You earned your win and there's no other way about it. There's no need to continue now. It's clear I'm not going to win. I need to train harder. Perhaps we can duel again some time."
He'd make her: he wanted to have a come-back victory to redeem himself with.
