Heti was prowling the densite with an air of great importance. The way he paraded up and down, you might think he was guarding some priceless treasure, or the Regents themselves. But, it was all in his head.

Currently he was imagining that he was a fully fledged guard of the pride, protecting the lands from intruders. If he saw an intruder he would pounce on it, threaten it and maybe kill it if it mocked him. The intruders - in reality - were insects and lizards that scuttled by on occassion. Sometimes they were nothing but the figment of his imagination - such as on this occassion.

He pounced at air, pressed his paws to the sand and grinned triumphantly.

"Ah ha! I have you now, rogue! Back to the hole you crawled out of! You don't deserve to tred on these sacred lands!" He dug his little claws into the golden grains and then lifted one to swipe at the space in front of him, giving a little growl.

Ha! Wasn't he just the toughest little Firekin ever to be born in these lands?

"What are you doing?"

Jvalana had been watching Heti for a while, perched on a rocky outcrop above him, looking down. Her voice was indignant, the lionness obviously looking down on the youngster - and not just literally, either. Her eyebrows were raised, and she remained exactly where she was, as if afraid she might get infected with whatever disease this poor boy had. She felt sorry for him - that was what Papa said, to feel pity for those who couldn't be as good as them. Pity, and fury if the dared contest such a fact.

"You're weird," she stated, quite bluntly, tearing her fiery glance from the juvenile to return to her previous task of grooming herself, carefully arranging each hair in her tail, admiring it's fiery colour. She was so pretty, Papa said. She had the true colours of fire in her, after all. At least her mother had been good for something. Moving on from her tail, she began running her rough tongue over a paw, cleaning the dirt and sand from inbetween each individual toe.

She'd lost interest in Heti already.

Heti's brow furrowed as the voice of a watched interrupted his playing. A second later and the irritation turned into embarrassment. His game of make-believe probably wasn't going to show him in the best of light. But was it wrong to pretend you were a guard? Was it wrong to practice protecting the pride on insects and...imaginary things?

His head tilted a little as he thought, one ear drooping. Maybe it was wrong. And if it was, what then? Would he stop? Well...if he was being laughed at then the answer was probably yes. He wanted to be tough and scary, not a laughing stock!

"Me weird?" He replied finally, his gaze falling on the little female who seemed to be paying way to much attention to her appearance. "You're weird. What're you grooming for? Sand'll just get straight back there when you're done, you know!" He drew closer and reared up on his hind legs, placing his forepaws on the rocky outcrop she sat upon.

Realising he hadn't answered her first question, his brow furrowed again and he replied slowly. "Just playing..."

Ugh, he insisted on continuing talking to her? Lana rolled her eyes, ignoring him a little longer as she finished cleaning her paw, finally tilting her amber eyes upwards to fixate on Heti once more, a sigh shrugging her shoulders. She shook her head a little in disbelief, pushing herself to her feet, standing tall but otherwise remaining where she was. She liked being up higher, able to look down upon the male both literally and figuratively.

"I groom because first impressions are important. I show pride for my true Firekin blood, which is displayed on my coat," she explained in a bored manner, as if she just couldn't be bothered. But she was bothering. "Playing?" she sneered, before allowing herself a chuckle, "Only newborns play."

He leaned forwards, resting his head against his paws that were set firmly against the rock. He didn't really seem insulted, in fact, he seemed somewhat amused. This girl was weird.

"So you want to make an impression on me?" He blinked his red eyes and allowed his grin to widen a little. "Didn't your parents tell you that play is practise for when you're grown up? Wrestling with your siblings helps practise for wrestling with a mean lion." He shrugged and exhaled noisily out of his nose.

"Who're you, then?" He was much more amicable towards females than males when they insulted him apparently. Probably because he wasn't supposed to fight with girls...his parents had told him so.

"I'm Heti. Future guard and protector of the Firekin, at your service!" His tail curled and he leaned his head back, still balanced on his hind legs.

Why was he amused? What could he possibly be amused at? Lana sneered again, gazing down on him in confusion and irritation. He was like a little ant, irritating as it zig-zagged across your path, refusing to get out of your way. Admittedly, yes, she could just turn and leave. But to leave such a poor, unfortunate cub with not a clue how the world worked would just be harsh.

"Play and practise are two completely separate concepts," she snapped, hissing lightly and flashing her teeth. She had to make sure he realized that she was right, and he was wrong, and he was lucky to be getting her attention and assistance. "You don't need to know my name, I don't give it to those who're unworthy."

She couldn't help but scoff. Guard? Not at this rate he wouldn't be.

He arched a brow. Woah, what was biting her tail? Seriously! She was acting way too grown up for her age...and what was she? Much younger than him, right? Yeah, definately! So it was true that girls matured quicker than boys? It sort of seemed so...

He pushed off the rock and landed back on all floors and wriggled his nose, a little miffed at being spoken to in such a way.

"Fine then, Sparky, keep it to yourself. Since when did name's get to be such secrets, in any case? Hey...you're not one of Cal's sister's are you?" Hadn't the sandy one said that not all of his siblings looked like he did?

He couldn't quite remember...

Lana held her nose up, determined to keep good posture throughout the encounter, despite the fact that he didn't seem to care nearly as much as she did. Sparky? Another scoff. Fine, let him come up with a silly nickname. Just showed how childish and stupid he was. Not like Cani. Cani was brave and strong and a total dickhead, but was still far better than this little pile of worthless blood.

"No, I'm not," she sneered, nose wrinkling. She was only related t those of true blood.

He shrugged. "Fine." And with that he seemed to start some sluggish pacing, kicking at sand here and there with his paw. Then an idea came to him...what if...what if...No. No he couldn't do that, could he? Could he really? Yes. He probably could! Was it a bad idea? Maybe... Was that going to stop him? Certainly not!

And through all that mental thought an evil little grin was scrawling its way across his maw and, with a sudden movement, he twisted his body, scooped a paw into the sand and, in one fluid motion, thrust upwards, sending a pawful of sand up into the air towards her.

Let's see if that got her off her 'high horse'.
PostPosted: Mon Jan 25, 2010 11:04 am

She saw it coming.

She sneered, about to turn before she spotted the movement in the corner of her eye, gaze snapping back to him with her full attention as it almost seemed like slow motion - him scooping the sand, it firing towards her. Lana feeling the muscles ripple in her hind legs as she snarled loudly, charging forwards and leaping from the rock in one fluid movement, bursting through the sand he'd thrown and hopefully landing directly on top of him.

Her claws were outstretched. He wasn't getting away with that.

The grin faltered a little as the cub came launching at him through the cloud of sand. Boy, was she mean! He braced himself, but even that was not enough.

She collided with him and he tipped backwards, rolling across the sand, his paws flailing to find ground. He hated loosing his footing and getting so dizzied that he couldn't figure which way was up or down.

Oh, wait. Blue. Blue was sky. Blue was up.

He wriggled in an attempt to right himself. "Oi, get off, you maniac!"
PostPosted: Mon Jan 25, 2010 11:13 am

Lana landed on him, claws searching for flesh, although she made sure she didn't maim him too badly. Her paw found his rump and she sunk her claws in just a little, raking them across the surface to create nothing more than a graze that might sting for a few days. She didn't want to get into trouble, after all.

His shouts made her snicker, chuckling to herself as she stopped her assault, climbing off of him carefully with a sneer, "You shouldn't make a challenge you know you can't win."

But he had spirit...she liked that. With a sigh, she began to groom her paw again, slightly irritated she was having to start over, "But...you have potential. If you like, I can teach you."

He gave a little squeak as he felt her claws graze him and muffled it beneath a huff of irritation as she climbed off of him.

"It wasn't a challenge." He insisted. He'd only been playing. It's not like he'd wanted to actually fight with her. She was a girl, after all! No, he just wanted to see if she was any fun. He wasn't sure what the answer had been...not really fun, but unexpected to say the least.

"Potential?" He lifted an ear and directed it towards her. "Teach me what? How to groom properly?"
PostPosted: Fri Mar 05, 2010 10:14 am

It wasn't a challenge? Well, it had certainly seemed like one, and she couldn't be blamed for mixed signals sent by other lions! Lana sat herself down, staring long and hard at the older lion, her gaze not faltering even as he spoke. She waited a few long moments before finally relaxing her gaze, though she still continued to watch him.

"No," she hissed softly, milding irritated by his ignorance, "Teach you how to fight. How to win. How to manipulate others so you can get what you want."

He shrugged. "But you're a girl. What can you teach me about fighting?" He wrinkled his snout. Manipulating others didn't sound like much fun, either. What was the point in that? He didn't want to waste the brain power!

"Manipulate others to do what, exactly?" He gave a little shrug. "Sounds like a waste of energy, if you ask me."
