Ea was a horrible baby-sitter. Which quickly meant that she was becoming An's new favorite cousin!
Well. That wasn't true. Fia was super super cool- and after their strange adventure out in the desert, she had a fond affection for the older female. A kind of cool older sister. The kind of sidekick a leader could count on! But sometimes a cub wanted to go out on her own. With people her age! And in that court, Ea was amazing.
It had taken a considerable amount of blackmail to get Ea to agree to be their designated babysitter for the afternoon. Luckily, finding blackmail on Ea was about as easy as a few good hours worth of spying. And after doing a little metaphorical arm wrenching, An and a small force of siblings were back out in the desert for some adventure! Hopefully not as peculiar as the last one, but...!
"So, yeah. That's pretty much it." An explained, having just finished relaying her most reccent adventure regarding the black cheetah, Versailles.
"That's great." Ea yawned, setting herself up on a small rock. In the midst of the swirling dunes and sand, it was but a tiny island. A tiny island Ea was about to take the most amazing sun bath on. "So like, I guess be back by dark or something. I don't know. Don't get eaten or anything or my mom will seriously kill me."
An grinned mischievously. "Get eaten? Nah! We're just going to play cute kittens on the other ridge. You know that game, right?"
Ea stretched and opened one bi-colored eye. "Don't really care."
"Awesome," she affirmed, and took a tumbling roll down the sand. She was excited. Her adventure with Fia had been amazing but... this time they'd be all on their own! And she'd brought her best men with her! Well. Mostly women and Gepeto.
The blonde cub ran down the slope to where the other two waited. The sand was red hot on her tiny pink paws, but it was becoming a feeling she equated with danger. "Alright, I think she'll be cool. We have the whole day to ourselves! This is serious adventure time, guys. The desert is a dangerous place! We're not going to have any men eaten on this mission!"
And she already knew just who they'd go see!

Everything about Moto'Seide said "serious business" even at her cub age. Whether or not this was safe, she didn't know, and, like Ea, she was in a state of not caring.
The important thing was, and she'd told Gepeto this several times while they waited, that they enjoy this, it be a great adventure, and if he ruined this for them, Seide was going to steal all of his food for a week and kick him down sandy hills.
Boys may be boys, but this was the girl's day, and her day, well, An's day -- the point was: It was going to be awesome.
"Here she comes!" Seide informed, standing on all fours, both ears perked fowards as she watched An tumble down the sand.
"Are you ready Gepeto? Because I'm ready," she told him, hopping on his tail to prove her reflexes were fast.
"Absolutely no men lost!" Seide proclaimed in repetition as An skittered to a stop in front of them. "So watch yourself, Gepeto. No tripping!" Seide felt very proud of herself for micromanaging the brown sibling of hers. He needed it. Almost certainly.

"I don't get why you're so excited, Moto." he mumbled, rolling his eyes. "I never would have thought you, of us all, would be looking forward to danger."
Tired ears twitched when Moto spoke, paws tinkering all the while with a bone he intended to fashion into a weapon, mind meandering off to distant places.
Gepeto liked the rough housing brothers did, and knowing they would be up to no good at around this time of day almost tempted himg to leave the duo...but An, that cream colored gossip cub, was hardly one to keep her mouth shut. The stories teased and tugged at his will.
It would seem her days spent out of sight were ones of great adventure! Ones that he wanted to participate in.
The interest in Gepeto rose, matching with the thrill of danger he so unknowingly gravitated to and thus kept his little black paws planted firmly beside Mother Hen.
"I see her!" Jumping up, the cub grinned wide as a look of true delight passed over that usually crumpled facade. Sort of disregarding Moto's initial claim, her showing of true cub agility, his tail swung around once before he waddled to the end of the island.
Tossing the weapon aside, Gepeto’s golden eyes scanned the top of the dune and watched as An tumbled.
"Don't worry Moto, when you fall from fright I'll be sure to step over you carefully. Anyways, where are we headed to sis?" he whispered, followed quickly by several devilish chuckles.
Take that, Moto'Seide.

An couldn't help giggling at Seide's remark, and Gepeto's quick rebuttal. Yes, this would be perfect. Three was a good and strong number. Three people could do anything! "Now-" She started, practically jittering with pent up energy. "Remember, we've got lots of stuff to fight with! No need to fight other adventurers. That's just tiring!"
Not to mention, they were a team! All for one, and one for all, right? Well, at least, that's how An saw it. She started to move backwards, motioning for her siblings to follow. Even though Ea was probably out of earshot [and even more likely: didn't care], she kept her voice low as she started to explain her plan.
"Well, the bad thing about adventures is you can't really plan them. If we plan out an adventure, it isn't really an adventure at all. But! I know who we've got to find. I have an informant in the desert!" She explained. "If there's something going on out in the dunes, I'd bet he'd know. None of this kid stuff, we're after the real adventures."
They were a bit farther now, and she started to talk more freely. The sand slid from underneath her paws as she walked. "You know, stuff that needs to be handled. We just might uh...have to chase 'em a bit to make him talk. It shouldn't be hard at all!"
And unfortunately for Hakkari, the narrow legged road-runner had indeed taken that afternoon to start recovering the food losses An had caused just the other day. The hot sand was little bother to the flightless creature as he poked about, rustling up some small lizards but failing to find any of the delicious snakes he craved.
"Hrmph," He muttered to himself. "Always nothings. Is bad land, that is why. Not like this in old home. Better in old home. Too much sand. Not enough rock!"
An stopped just on the ridge of the dune overlooking the large bird as he wobbled about. Unaware of being watched, he continued hunting and nudging about the small rocks and sand.
"Ahah!" An gleamed. "Sssh, there he is! Now, all we gotta do is catch 'em!" Nice like. They didn't want to hurt him. But, An was banking on Hakkari thinking otherwise. She rubbed her paws together and thought. "He's a fast runner, so I don't think we're gonna catch him from here. Look at those long legs! We're gonna need a plan..."
An moved back, as if opening the floor for options. "What do you guys think? Should we circle him at once? Or maybe one of us should chase him towards the others!"
Unknowingly, Hakkari lifted his crested head, and started to strut to the left. "Maybe is good here." He mused, picking at some small pebbles. "Bah! Dirty snakes, why hide so well?"

Moto'Seide gave her brother an outright dirty scowl, unable to rebut with his quick words, but boring her eyes into his back to show she had not liked his well-timed words of sibling rivalry.
The moment of loss, and temper, was lost to An's words, and Seide's ears went forwards. Head tilted, tail swaying lightly, there was nothing that could distract her from what her sister said. But, not planning?
Moto opened her mouth to object, glancing towards Gepeto and thinking better of it. Besides, An clearly knew what she was doing, right? If an adventure was not meant to be planned, then plan they would not!
"An informant?" Seide repeated. The word was very strange, and she wasn't sure what it meant, but that made it all that more intriguing. It tickled her toes and made her itch to run a circle around them in excitement. But this was adventure; she had to stay serious.
"Like, the sand monster?" she asked An, likely wondering if there was any merit to her father's stories, or if it was just meant to keep them out of the dunes on their own. Several of their siblings had denied it, but Mpaji had been insistent and so Seide wondered.
When they started their walk, Seide placed herself directly in front of Gepeto, almost alongside An. He certainly wasn't going to help lead, and she wanted to see it first.
When they reached the top of the ridge, Seide stared. It was the biggest damn bird she'd ever seen. Not that she'd seen any up close other than their rock. From a distance, sometimes she'd seen birds that swept in front of the sun, but she wasn't sure if they ever came down from the sky. Both father and mother said so, but like most things, Moto'Seide wasn't going to believe it until she saw it.
"He looks all funny sticking his head around near the sand like that," she told them, grinning despite herself and then flopping down on the rock.
Her little ears twitched left and right, and she grinned when she overheard the little critter talking. Bounding bound between them, she slid to a stop with what she thought was the perfect idea - it would depend on what the other's thought of it; Seide's own confidence depended on the wisdom of her siblings.
"How about we catch it a snake?"

Certainly Gepeto did not mind tailing the girls, winning that battle with his sister only satisfying an already enlarged ego. There was also the chance of finding random doodads worth hoarding that made the trek bearable...in fact that alone would have made it alright to walk last. Moto’s silence was just a perk.
Rocks of many, sun bleached colors came first, and then the misshapen twigs and bone bits caught his eyes. It was hard for him not to lose focus at times.
This was business however, as Moto would say, and though usually he wanted nothing to do with seriousness of any kind; this was adventure business…the best sort. Paying attention, though his nose kept to the sands, Gepeto grinned as An went on about unplanned events and capturing an informant…who ever that was. Neither one for order nor chaos, the cub only quickened his trot in response and swung his paws at a single standing plant that, in his wake, snapped and fell over on its side.
No matter how engrossed he was in his own pickings, Gepeto would not miss out on the feathered critter that poked around the dunes below them. An stopped, and then he caught sight of his red pelted sister with her eyes wide and ogling.
“What?” he began, stumbling over the sands and skidding beside the two. Immediately, Gepeto’s ears shot forward, followed by the puffing of his whiskers and then the whispered. “Wow” He, like Seide and despite his silent mockery of her doing so, stared.
“Catch a snake? How are we going to catch a snake?” He questioned, wheeling around with all four of his paws spread out awkwardly. “Maybe we can get something shiny and lure him over to us.”
Taking up in his paw a smooth rock, Gepeto rotated it around and watched as the light played off the minerals condensed within it.
