It had been ingenious, if he did think so himself. The little cub was sharp witted and quite observant when he had to be. Though things had been normal within the heart of the den, there was something that did seem off; Ukoo and O'tep seemed to avoid each other and were covered in marks. His mother especially had changed. . . Little things he didn't notice or understand went over his head but the wound on her front paw had been noticed.
She chewed on it constantly and sometimes the scent of blood tickled his nose, especially when they cuddled. Still, he was too little to really understand what had changed but the atmosphere within the den was . . . strained. Oh well, Rahim had observed the small changes in his mother and had decided he would make her happy.
Somehow, someway.
So while his mother had curled up fast asleep, Rahim had made his escape. He thankfully didn't have to go far as he had begun a small collection the past days previous. She had once slept on dry grasses and his father often slept on scented grass. Well, seeing as lately the grasses she brought were dry and full of green, Rahim had decided he'd gift his mother with a few small things.
Running in and out of the den, careful not to rouse some of his napping siblings, he began to place little scented wildflowers, some dry and dying due to picking them days before, he had hid near the entracne of the den. He was too little to cover her entire bed of grass, but it was enough to be noticeable. Unfortuantely, he weas also too little to drag more than one or two back in at a time. . . .
It was doubtful he'd finish before Ukoo arrived but Rahim was bound and determined to finish the job. This way his mother could once again sleep on grasses that smelled pleasant. Just because she didn't dry out the grasses anymore didn't mean she had to sleep on a bed that smelled so plainly.
To Rahim, Ukoo was the most lovely and wonderful banu in the world. And he'd always cherish her as such.

Ukoo had fallen asleep in the sun as her son had started his plan. She was unaware of how much her cubs loved her sometimes and she could admit that. She had lain outside the den almost until the end of his little idea. She had opened her eyes to her little boy walking into the den with flowers in his mouth. She didn't move, contemplating what her little Rahim was doing at that moment.
She gave him a few seconds before she sat up and stretched, before standing and padding into the den.
Her head lifted to see her son laying the flowers on their nest. She felt such pride and love towards him, it almost brought tears to her eyes.
"What are you doing Rahim?" She asked, sitting down.

((Wow. . . I never realized how much like Ukoo Rahim was~! Outside of the stomach marks, he's like her just . . . backwards in colour. x3 ))
He was just about finished with his little surprise, focusing on making the arrangement pretty. He really had thought long and hard about thie idea, silly as others might think it, and for the occasionally distant cub to put so much effort in a plan was surprising. It proved he did have a good heart and certainly could put others first when he felt like it.
Rahim wasn't a bad boy, hardly, considering he did his best to please Ukoo and watch over his many, many siblings. But there were some days when he was more reserved and wasn't keen on conversation. He certainly didn't wrestle with his brothers unless goaded on and seemed to observe more than interract - but today his observations had come in handy.
Shuffling the flowers around, trying to put the prettiest smelling flowrs up front, he hardly heard Ukoo's approach until she spoke. Ears swiveled, with his body soon following and he looked up at his mother. His chest puffed up proudly and it didn't take more than a moment before he lept over to where she sat and rubbed himself between and around her front legs. He was very careful of her open wounded on her paw, of course, but he didn't dare want to miss a minute to cuddle.
If there was one banu in his life that he adored above the rest it was Ukoo, and he had no reservations showing it.
"I . . . I made you a gift. Come see what you can sleep upon, Mommy," he added, the pride in his voice thick with affection. "I made sure your grasses smell sweet now too." In case she didn't comprehend his logic or understand the reasoning behind the flowers. She was his mother, yes, but she still was female and sometimes females were silly.

I know right? xD
Ukoo observed her son with the silence of a good hunter and a good mother. She lifted her injured paw out of the way so he could rub all he wanted and not touch it. She was a bit embarassed by that paw but, she couldn't help it. She used her good paw to scoop him up half way and wash his eyes for a moment. "What a sweet boy." She said, pressing her cheek against his for a moment before allowing him free.
"My goodness... rahim." She said, standing up and going to her bed. The tears formed on the brink of her lids but she refused to let them fall. "My beautiful son... you made this for me? These sweet flowers and sweet grasses... I cannot thank you as I should sweet heart!" She said, stepping into the grasses and flowers.

While Rahim hated baths, like any boy, he tolerated them from Ukoo. Besides which, it meant even more personal attention from the most wonderful banu in the world. No banu would ever take the place of Ukoo in his eyes, and any female had a difficult task ahead of them to worm their way as deep in his heart as his mother had. He adored her and he made no reservations about showing her or the rest of his family just that!
Soft purr in his throat, the little cub returned the licks with a few small ones of his own before she allowed him free. Leaping just out of reach as she let him go, Rahim positively beam with satisfaction. He watched with pride as his mother approached her newly made bed, pausing for just a moment to bat at her tail as she investigated it. He could't help it, it was right there and he adored playing with her so.
Still, his ears pricked as she finally spoke, and he bolted underneath her belly and paws to look happily up at her. "They are just for you, Momma," he responded, rubbing his cheek once more against her good leg. "I . . I know you always dress Father's bed with such things, and know you have been out of sorts lately. . . I . . . I thought you might like them, so you can sleep in good smelling things too!" He was a clever boy, or so he liked to believe and he could only hope his mother might think as much too.
"You do like them, don't you?" He questioned, looking from the flowers back to Ukoo. She seemed pleased but . . . he did want to make sure. If it wasn't perfect enough he could fix it. . he would fix it, but only for her. No one else. No one else mattered enough to him for him to bother or try. Besides, laying flowers down had given him a good reaction and good response from his mother. . . it might not be the same with other banu anyway.

Ukoo observed the bed in which her son had made so beautiful for her. Now she would know how Tariq felt each night as he slept in his bed of newly lain grass. She stepped down into the slight hollow of the ground laying down gently as to not ruin any of the flowers. "It's the best gift I have ever gotten Rahim. I promise you." She said, looking at him with loving red eyes.
In fact it was one of the few gifts ever given to Ukoo.
"I love them. I love them especially because you thought of me and did this task for me. You will be a good pad for someone someday if you show enough love towards your banu and beyabanu. That will make you the best Pad... ever." She said, reaching up for him with her olive paw. She poked him playfully with her good paw, her sore and rather painful paw tucked under her chest safely.

Rahim couldn't help but be pleased by his mother's reaction. In fact, as he watched her lie down upon the grasses his red eyes glowed with delight. . . She seemed to enjoy his present, even if it wasn't entirely finished or perfect. He was still awfully small but her smile was something he hadn't seen in a long time.
Trotting forward after she had settled, he rubbed up against her face, a small purr in his throat. He paused to lick her nose and forhead before flopping over to his side. She was still his mother and he would never be too big or too old or too proud to give her the love he knew she deserved.
Rahim loved his mother very much. One of the only banu that could have such a special place in his heart. "I'd do anything for you, Momma," he added, rolling over her good paw and batting playfully at at it. After she had gotten all the scars and the bad paw, things had seemed different in the den. But for this moment, this small moment, he could enjoy Ukoo being a little happy.
His ears did p***k as she spoke about love. A good pad. . .he wanted to be the best pad ever, and yet, was his mother being true? To love his banu and beyabanu. . . . He really only loved his mother, cared for his sisters and the other banu of Tariq's but . . . . he'd probably never love someone as much Ukoo. Sure, he had friends. . . and Suha was very dear . . . but to love one so much as Ukoo would never be possible. Or so he figured.
Still. . . "So I should love them to be the best?" He frowned slightly before looking at his mother. "Like Tariq loves you or . . . better than that? Just like I love you?" He was young and still figured the world worked in black and white. The love he showed his mother wasn't at all like the love Tariq showed her. So which love was she talking about? She was Tariq's pad and he Rahim's father. . . . . So what way was the best way to be the best pad?
Tariq'ra'd was a vizier after all . . . .but did that mean he wasn't the best pad ever?
