The way the sun burned on the sand, Savitri enjoyed the feel of it. It burned through her white pelt, giving her coat tinges of red here and there where she was sure her skin was burning. As she passed under the shadow of a rock formation, she reveled for a moment in the cool of it, blue eyes adjusting just so. She scanned the horizon, as if looking for... Someone... A sigh passed her lips, before she sat down, watching the sands shift just a bit from this bug or that bug or the lizard that went scurrying by. A small desert spider crawled into the rock's shade, getting a good stare from the white lion. She payed it no more mind, though, simply ignoring it as she watched the horizon, and waited.

The coolness of her den was beckoning to the old lioness as she trudged across the packed down sand near the denning area. The hot sun had made her drowsy and a nap in the shade would do her good for a change. As much as she liked the heat, Kinja could only take it for so long befor her body began to itch for the shade. It was on her way back that Kinja's eyes caught sight of the lone pale lioness.
Watching the white female, Kinja debated whether she should just continue on her way or not, but something tugged at her to go talk to the other lioness. So, changing her course Kinja walked up behind the female before sitting down beside her, eyes looking out of the desert. "It's beautiful isn't it? In it's own strange way." She sat there for a moment, looking at the sandy ocean before turning her gaze upon her white companion. "Are you waiting for someone to come up over those dune?" Kinja smiled softly. "I am Kinja by the way."

Savitri gave a bit of a start, her gaze breaking from the dunes to turn to the red lion beside her. An older lion, around her father's age... She smiled slightly, blue eyes dancing just a bit. "It is... There's nothing comparable to the desert. Others see it as harsh, barren.. No life could possibly live here... But they don't see it beyond what they consider the safety of the grasslands, or the mountains..." She looked back out at the sand, shifting slightly. "They never see the way the sand glistens in the moonlight, as if it's made of the dust of billions of stars..." The white lioness sighed, before her ears twitched lightly. "You could say I am... I'm waiting for... Someone special..."
Her gaze returned to the old lioness the moment she mentioned her name. "Kinja... The mate of Kiu? Mother of Kimeti?" She'd thought all but her grandmother, aunts, and uncles were dead. To hear the name Kinja, and see the face to the name was a shock. "I'm Savitri..."

Oh yes, Kinja certainly knew what the pale lioness was speaking of. The desert was a deadly yet an amazingly beautiful place to anyone who was willing to look at it for what it was. Kinja her self had been unable to recognize the beauty of the land in her younger years, but now...now she could fully appreciate the wonders of the golden sands. Out of all the places that she had visited, Kinja had never really come across anywhere else to rivaled the deserts of the Firekin. She'd seen mountains, grasslands, and boggy lands but nothing was like the Motoujamii.
Surprise filled the lioness's eye at the mention of her mate. No one, since her return to the prid,e had mentioned Kiu, not by name anyway, and to hear it roll off this lioness's tongue was just... "I...I wasn't aware that so many knew of Kiu and I." Her surprised expression slowly shifted to a sad smile. "But yes, I am -that- Kinja. I guess I should have figured so many lions in the pride had at least heard of me, and I apologize for my reaction, I just...well, no one has mentioned Kiu at all to me so that shocked me a bit."
Wanting to learn more about this lioness but not wanting to sound too pushy Kinja turned her saddened expression back to the desert sands. "So, Savitri, if you don't mind me asking, is this someone special anyone specific?"
