I'm looking at buying a Ruger Mini 14 with my hard earned tax return money. Anyone hear have any experience with them?

I hear they're notoriously inaccurate. Personally I kind of want to mod one into an M1A1 Carbine stock.

I hear that it's like spending 800 dollars for a sub-par SKS.

The newer Mini 14's a lot more accurate than the older models, not to mention only a dumbass would pay 800 bucks for a mini-14.

They're just slightly more accurate than an SKS, and still more expensive in every possible way. Clips > Magazines, x39 > .223, SKS > Mini-14. (When talking about cost.) Even if you get a Mini-14 for 500-600 dollars, you're still paying more than you should.

And hell, you can get an AR-15 for 600 dollars. CMMG sells "bargain bin" AR-15's that have mixed parts and cosmetic defect, but work fine.

Eh. I'm not too ecstatic about mine, but it is an all right little gun. Get what you pay for, not much more, but definitely an all right value. After seeing the accuracy of a Remington 550 at 50 yards, though, I WANT one. Less than one inch groups, and can fire every .22, including .22cb.

But what made you bring up marlin .22s?

Not a fan of AR's. Never have been, never will be. I already have a SKS, there just something about the Mini that makes me want it, my friend loves his.

But whyyyy? D:

The Ruger Mini-14 is the best 300 dollar rifle that you can get for 650 dollars. Bargain bin AR-15's are the best 900 dollar rifles that you can get for 650 dollars.

Of course, it is your decision. I think you're making a pants-on-the-ground choice, though.

I totally forgot about those. Yeah, they are great .223 carbines if he doesn't want an AR-15. 1-3MOA at 100 yards as opposed to the Mini-14's 3-8MOA.
