It was a beautiful day for a walk by the lake, and Amani was taking advantage of it. She moved slowly, watching the ebb and flow of the water as the tide went out. It smelled of grass and water, an earthy smell that she approved of. She paused when she came to a smooth rock, sitting and watching the water. It was the perfect space to take a break, a bit higher than the water, so it wouldn't creep up on her, but close enough that she could enjoy the sound and smell. Yes, it was definitely a perfect day for a visit to the lake.

Cairo moved forward humming lightly to himself. He was headed for the lake to see in there was anyone there he could get to know. He wanted to be a good pad when he grew up and to do so he would have to know the other members. Cairo looked around as he came upon the lake, spotting a few, but not approaching them as they seemed busy.
He turned and continued on his way until he saw a gray female with purple markings. He smiled as she didn't seem to be busy and approached her.
"Hi," he said in a sound voice. "I hope you're not busy. I wouldn't want to interrupt."
Cairo smiled at the banu, waiting for her reply, then he remembered his manner and blushed slightly.
"I'm Pesar Cairo. It's nice to meet you."

She looked over at him, smiling happily. "You're not interrupting, young Pesar, in fact I was just thinking of how I would like to have some company! I am Amani, Beybanu of Pad Nywele, sister of Vizier Faiz and half sister of the Sultan," she said, formally introducing herself as she usually did.
"Would you like to join me?" she asked, nodding at the large stone where she sat.

"It is very nice to meet you too Beybanu Amani. My father has told me a lot about the Sultan Aali. He seems like a very kind lion."
Cairo moved over to the lioness, making sure not to go to close. He didn't want to touch her. Hadn't his father say it wasn't allowed. Cairo wasn't sure if it meant cubs too, but he figured he would be better safe that sorry.
"I haven't met many of the other pride members yet. Will you tell me what your pad looks like?"
Cairo settled down for his talk with Amani, determined to learn more about her and others.

Aali is indeed a very kind lion," she agreed, quite happy with that appraisal of her half brother. "And Nywele is hard to miss," she added a bit dryly. "He has this magnificently huge and fluffy mane that he wears in braids, and all sorts of pretty markings that can glow when he feels like it. And he has a beautiful blue bird named Mr. Birdy who fixes his mane for him."
She smiled at the cub, quite happy with this subject. "In fact, I'm sure you'll recognize him the next time you see him. Then you can go greet him as properly as you've greeted me!"

Cairo couldn't help but looked at her in amazement as she described her pad. He wandered if he could have a big mane like Nywele's. He sounded just superb and Cairo couldn't wait to meet him.
Cairo grinned proudly at the complement given to him. "Thank you. My father and mother try to make sure all their cubs are know the ways of the pride. I want to make them proud. I plan to have a big harem and treat all my banu just a lovingly as my father treats his banu."
Cairo looked out to the lake imagining what his harem would be like.

"I'm sure you will," Amani agreed with a smile. "I'm afraid my pad's harem is rather small at the moment. There's just me and him. But he has gone out looking for another to join us."
She looked out at the water, admiring the view. "I hope," she said after a second, "that all your future banu get along splendidly, little pesar."

Cairo smiled feeling very proud and as though he furture was somehow set in stone.
"Thank you," he said "I hope that the new banu in Nywele's harem get along well with you too."
Cairo turn back to Amani smiling brightly, "You are very kind, surely you have as many cubs an the sultan has." Cairo was really hoping this was so. He figured it would be very nice to play with cubs of hers.

"I would like to," Amani said with a little smile, a hint of bittersweetness in her eyes. "I've always adored cubs, you see, but before I became Nywele's Beybanu, I was the beybanu of an older Vizier. We didn't manage to have any cubs before he passed away. Now, though, I hope to have some. And when I do, I would love if you would play with them!"

Cairo was surprised to hear she did not have any cubs, but after he heard her story it made sense that she didn't. He grinned at the thought of being allowed to play with her cubs, even more he hoped he would be one of the first to meet them.
"I sure we will all be great friends. I bet you will have lots soon."
Cairo jumped up grinning brightly, before remembering his manner and pulling his excitement back in.
"Have you met lots of others in the pride. Being the sultan's sister, I bet you have to keep up with all the new faces. Though I mostly see the males doing that."

"Not as many as I would like to," Amani admitted. "But things have changed, and I think it'll take time getting to know everyone. There's a lot of cubs that I haven't met, especially. But I'll be working on that."

Cairo grinned wiggling slightly, "I can help you with that. I tell my brothers and sisters to come meet you. All 12 of them. I think they will like you. You are really nice. I can tell my father and mother's to come meet you too. That will make your getting to know all the pride members easier."
Cairo smiled, "I want to meet the Sultan one day soon and the Viziers. I think my father wants to be one. Or at least he acts like he wants to, or maybe thats just the way he is."
Cairo was rambling, but he was still young and finding things to talk about and remaining coherent wasn't exactly the easiest thing.

"Oh, I would appreciate that!" Amani said, following well enough along. "I would love to meet all of your siblings, especially if they are as nice as you are!" she exclaimed. "And your parents, as well, of course."
She smiled, letting him prattle on as he would, enjoying the sweet sound of his young voice. He was such an earnest little fellow, full of things that were important to talk about. Oh, how she wished she had one just like him! But in time, she promised herself. In time she would have cubs to send out to play with him.
She prayed it was so.
