I don't understand this: Why do a lot of Hmong (and other cultrues, I've noticed) want a lot of kids? I know that it started when families had large fields and farm work and many kids were needed to support the farm; however, it's a modern era and harldy anyone has large (several acre) farms anymore. So why do they still want large amounts of kids? (ie: 8, 9, 19, et cetera). I just don't understand... Help--please!

My parents still love me
My mom has a huge family, she got 9 brother or sister
and another 10 step bro/sis
While my dad only got one brother

Maybe they just like to do eachother a lot,
idk....
Ask my Tais and Yer
They have like 14 kids
but two died at birth
So my mom is the oldest but then again not really
because of the first death....

Ive got like,
7 Uncles and 3 aunts on my moms side...
8 aunts and uncles on my DaDs side....
And maybe 3x more cousins

Anywhoo; my family is small. 1 sister & 2 younger brothers.
2 girls & 2 boys.
My mom is happy.
But my daddy wants more. xD

=.= I think I have the biggest family here... My gramps had like 12 kids... He had six back in Laos... He was in the vietnam war... Survived many battles. He manged to bring all of his kids and his wife with him. Amazing... He then came here and had another six kids here... He raised all of them with the help of an american veteran that took them in with his family. Taught my uncles and dad and aunts. My dad is the third oldest... They then had several kids and that's how I got more than twenty cousins. Plus on my mom's side... To many to count... My gramps also raised all twenty of us cousins intill the day he died. He died last year... Well... yea... Biggest hmong family on here...

Lol, i'm 99.9% sure my Grandpa was in the war too, cus when i look in his closet i see a high power bolted rifle, and i was like, holy ****.

Yeah my old grand pappy was in the wars too
He dead but we got a memorial of him at my uncles house
We got a bunch of his stuff, gun, crossbow, axe, and some other stuff

Call me a douchebag.. But I think that they have a lot of kids because it somehows gives them a wider chance of having successful children. o.O Y'know, Hmong parents are always wanting their kids to become dentists and doctors.. But it's not like Hmong parents aren't realistic. They know it's not easy to become succesful..

So, if the oldest kid becomes a hobo, you still got the second one. That's the kind of mentality I get from my parents. :[

But there's always the fact that baby boys are still regarded as very precious (I agree, by the way) in the Hmong culture.

They continue carrying the clan name.

Anyhow, my parents kept trying to have a boy, but got only girls. That explains why there are seven of us, the first three of us just one year apart.
