She pushed the leafy crown up from her eyes, wrinkling her nose a little in displeasure. She thought the crown would be a wonderful thing but not if it was so big that it kept falling in front of her eyes and risked her tripping over things.
She pressed a paw to it, over her forehead, and tried to look up at it - almost going crosseyed in the process.
"Now, look here, crown. Stop misbehaving or I shan't wear you anymore! Now wouldn't that make you sad?" ... "Yes, I thought it would. Okay, ready for your last chance?" She drew her paw tentatively away and then straightened, smiling as the crown stayed neatly in place - tangled in the tuft of fur on her head.
"Okay, let's goooo~!"

Her father had once told her that if you listened, you could hear the ocean through a seashell. The prize in her paws was perhaps the largest, prettiest one she'd ever found to date- perhaps nearly twice the size of one of her paws with a handsome natural spiral and a pinkish lip curling upwards to end in three small, rounded spikes. She crossed her eyes and tipped her head as she lifted the shell for inspection. If she could -hear- the ocean, did that mean there was an ocean in there? Of course, the actual ocean wasn't too far off behind her. Nevermind that- she wanted to figure this one out.
The lioness sat with her hand legs sprawled, her paws holding a seashell just above her head, and her tail flipping back and forth in the sand behind her.
She wrinkled her maw and shook the shell up and down. Why wasn't it working?!

Just as Lucie rounded the corner the darned crown slipped again, cutting off a good deal of her vision with vines and leaves. With a small huff, she tried to shift it by jerking her head up. However, this only seemed to make things worse and thus she almost crashed straight into the other female - and probably would have done if at that moment the crown hadn't broken apart and dropped to the floor at her paws.
"Oopsie..."
She lifted her eyes from the broken crown to the female in front of her. "And oopsie again. Sorry, I didn't see you there." A pause. "I think I know you...or I should know you. You're a pride member, right? I'm bad for not remembering..." Her ears dipped sheepishly. "But mine changed recently and only Mimi knows it. It's LuciƩrnaga'reina. But seriously now, that's a mouthful, just call me Lucie." She grinned, her eyes lowering to the object the other held.
"Oooooo~ what's that thingy?" She waved a paw in the direction.
Yes...Lucie liked to talk...a lot.

Miakis jumped with a loud "EEK!" as something dropped behind her. She'd not seen- or heard -the lioness approach. Nearly dropping her sea shell, she fumbled it and quickly drew it in closer to her chest. Looking around, she rolled her head back to see the other female and offered a welcoming smile. An expression that, surprisingly enough, held out even as the other rambled. She blinked and glanced to either side as she introduced herself. Wow what a mouthful, and she thought her own name was bad.
"You're related to Nili." She noted, turning herself around. It was rude to talk with her back turned after all. "I got him to dance once. He didn't think I could but I'm not supposed to te-...whoops."
Her ears drooped slightly. "Oh!" She perked up again, "I'm Miakis....er...Garurasana. Either one works, I'm not all used to my new name yet."
She blinked and looked down to the shell in her paws. After a moment of consideration she held it out. "It's a sea shell. Papa said you could hear the ocean in there. I was trying to figure out how."

Lucie grinned, nodding her head fiercely. "Yup, my family is huuuuge!! You can't go a few metres without bumping into one of them!" A little bit if an exaggeration, perhaps. But she was quite often doing that with her words.
"You got him to dance? Really? How much fun! Sad I missed it!" She smothered giggles into her paw, golden eyes shining with delight.
And then her eyes widened, clearly impressed. "Wow! A magic shell!! That's amazing, Miakis! And it's sooo pretty! And it won't fall over your eyes and make you knock into things!" She kicked the crown aside and moved closer. "Maybe you have to say the magic word, like, ummm, abracadabra!! Kazoom!!" She grinned again, a little cluelessly this time.

"That seems about right." She chuckled. "Though I'm surprised they're not all as serious. I'd have my work cut out for me!"
In regards to the shell she shook her head, "You have to weave a strong braid to keep these on though, but they don't wilt and fall apart. Still, I don't know how to make it work."
She held the shell out and waited, ears rolling forward as Lucie tried 'magic words'. After a few moments she sat back and shook her head. "Nope. Not magic words. Here, maybe you can get it to turn on?" She offered the shell out and tipped her head. "I've tried all morning."

She canted her head. "I guess you'd have to pierce a hole in the shell to thread the twine through, but it's too big and pretty to risk cracking all the way through, especially if it's magic! Magic shells must be super rare! Your daddy must love you very much to give you such a treasure!"
And then she paused, awe-struck. "Y-you want me to h-hold it?" But even as she sounded nervous and hesitant, her paws were reaching for it and she took it very gently. "Its quite heavy..." She lifted it up close to her scrunched muzzle and shook it gently. "There must be someway..." A pause. "Well, shells come from the sea so maybe they need to be 'watered' to work? Maybe water activates it's power, what d'yah reckon?"

"Yeah that's true." She scratched the back of her head with a paw and gave the shell a final look over. "Oh pa didn't give it to me, I found it. He likes them though, but all the ones he wears are tiny. This must be the mommy shell."
She blinked and tapped her chin. After a moment she rolled her head to the side and sought out the ocean. "Maybe... watering them wouldn't hurt!" She threw herself down onto all fours and stood up in one fluid motion. "Let's try it!"

"Okaaay!" Lucie agreed, getting to her paws and then trying to decide how to run efficiently whilst holding the shell. She quickly decided the best option was to curl her tail around the 'mommy shell' and hold it tight as she loped. The last thing she wanted to do was drop this precious treasure!
And as they moved towards the big water, she called out. "I love the water! My little muses do, too! They fly and dance above it from dusk till dawn!" She smiled contentedly. "But for some reason they don't seem to like the big water...maybe they're scared of the waves."
She took a breath. "I hope this plan will work! I want to hear the sea from the shell! Not from the sea itself." She seemed to amuse herself with that one. "Phew, not far now...almost there." She was running out of breath from all the talking and exercise. "Oh look, Miakis, there it is! So prettyyyy!"

Miakis allowed Lucie to take the lead. Watching her curl her tail around the shell -huh, she'd never thought of that before- she then took off running after her. It didn't take long for her own mind to wonder. There were large white birds kind of hanging in the air, now and then they'd swoop or flap their arrow-shaped wings, but generally they just seemed to float. Like..logs trapped in the ocean.
As her name was called she perked up and looked forward. "It is!" She agreed with a nod of her head. "What's your muse, you never told me!"

"Oh, sorry! My muse is the firefly." She replied happily. "They're so beautiful, so pretty. They chose me to be their queen, you know! That's why I only changed my name recently. It means, literally, firefly queen, and I couldn't become a proper queen until I'd grown up into an adult! A child can't be a queen, you know!"
She slowed her pace as the sea came up to greet them and drew to a grateful halt just a few paces from where the waves licked at the sand.
"Wowie, not had a good run for ages. I really should do some more hunting..." She shook her head. "How about your muse, Miakis?"

Fireflies? It took her a moment to identify a picture of the animals with the word. She had another, more childish word for them but so long as they were thinking of the same thing!
"Wow, a queen?" She came to a loping stop just a few inches from the dampened sand. Slowly, and cautiously, she reached a paw out to touch some gathered sea foam. Her father had warned her about the ocean. Sometimes it carried things away rather than in. It was a horrible thought...to be swept out into the ocean forever.
"Oh!" She looked over and smiled. "It's the eagle. That's what my name means. They're just so...free. They go wherever they want to and they're not afraid of anyone."

"Uh huh." The lithe female replied, moving towards the waves also - setting the shell down gently to rest her aching tail. "Eagles are beautiful." She agreed. "Sometimes I think its very sad to be a lion. To not be able to fly like the eagles or the fireflies or...well...the other flying thingys."
She smoothed the fur sitting atop her head. "But that's the way things go, I guess!"
She splashed the waves experimentally with a paw and then threw a glance over her shoulder. "Okaaay, let's do this! You want to dip the shell, Miakis?"

Thalion "I guess." She nodded her agreement and slowly inspected her paw. The sand was clinging to her pads and fur already. Dipping the shell meant getting closer to the ocean. She personally didn't mind getting sandy and dirty but it was always a pain to get cleaned up afterwards. "Oh!" She looked up and gave a short nod. Approaching slowly, she opened her mouth and gingerly took the shell from the other lioness. Dip it... that's all she had to do right? Holding her head up high, she carefully stepped into the waves, jumping at the first chilling splash of water against her. She waded in to where the waves settled around her ankles then slowly, carefully lowered her head to set the shell down.

She grinned, standing to attention, head and ears upright. She could feel the excitement, the anticipation. This was it, she was sure of it! Somehow, the sea would transfer into the magic shell, leave its imprint inside of it so that...
Oh that must be how it worked, right? The shell captured the water and contained a miniature sea inside! How wonderful!
She watched eagerly as her newfound friend dipped the shell and moved forwards to join her. "How long do you think it needs to be 'watered' before it works, do you think?"
